Jennifer Lawrence vs. Emily DiDonato
Lawrence: 5’8”, 29-21-1 with 26 KO since 2011. Chimera.
DiDonato: 5’10”, 4-4 with 4 KO since 2017. Fates Boxing.(Words: Fate / Results: Lookout!)

The two 28 year-old lightweights wear nearly the same identical faces to their press conferences before the fight.

Lawrence chirps, “Emily may be up and coming, but she just lacks experience. She has eight fights. I have 51. She’s only just started facing quality opponents, whereas I’ve been doing that for years, and you just can’t compensate for that gap.”

DiDonato happily fires back, “Lawrence has been living off her success from 2012-2016 where she posted most of her wins. She was 2-3 in 2017 and 3-6 in 2018. She isn’t as good as she used to be.”

DiDonato comes to the ring wearing a blue sports bra and matching trunks with red gloves, her hair up in a bun. Lawrence struts out in a black sports bra and spandex with white gloves, her hair tied up in a ponytail.

Both women coolly stare at each other as the ref signals for the bell.

Round 1:

Lawrence and DiDonato start off by launching vicious jabs at the other 28 year-old’s heads, trying to inflict as much punishment as possible early so it doesn’t become a slugfest. Emily quickly retreats as she feels Jennifer gradually gaining the advantage. Lawrence looks to pursue, but Emily slams a quick one-two combo through Jen’s guard, staggering the actress! J-Law gets her guard up, but that doesn’t stop DiDonato from slamming her gloves into Jen’s body, pounding her into the ropes. Lawrence tries to resist but eventually is forced to clinch as Emily continues to punish her, and the referee finally breaks the hold. Lawrence the first to get offense in after the break, landing a pair of solid shots to the model’s body, drawing a groan from DiDo. Lawrence follows up with a monster right hook but only hits air as Emily dodges out of the way and throws her own hook that actually connects with Lawrence, forcing the actress to back up. Emily works Jen into the ropes again as the bell rings for the end of the round. DiDonato takes the opening frame on points, wide.

Round 2:

Emily emerges confidently from her corner to start the second round while Jennifer moves out more cautiously, having gotten an earful from the Chimera staff. DiDonato begins by firing jabs off at Lawrence, but the actress catches most of the punches in her guard. Midway through the first minute, J-Law gets closer to DiDo and lays into the model’s belly. Emily’s legs quiver as Jen pounds her body, forcing her into the ropes as she keeps her guard up to prevent Lawrence from taking off her head. The actress backs her opponent into the ropes, but Emily quickly clinches, and the ref separates the two women. The two women circle afterwards, trading jabs and feints, and while Emily lands a reasonable number of her hits, Lawrence connects with several clear shots that force DiDonato to back off as the bell rings. Lawrence takes the second round on points, wide.

Round 3:

Jennifer emerges from the Chimera corner confidently, and wastes no time in pursuing Emily around the ring. DiDonato manages to plant her feet and launch a pair of hooks that get Lawrence’s chest, but the actress responds in kind right to Emily’s jugs. DiDonato lets out a gasp as J-Law targets the model’s puppies, and she gives up ground and nearly finds herself in the ropes. Lawrence continues to beat on Emily until DiDo slams a jab right into the actresses’ nose and immediately follows up with a hook to the jaw, forcing the actress to be the one who has to yield ground. Jen doesn’t let Emily run the show for too long though, as Lawrence manages to fire off some rights of her own that smack Emily in the mouth, drawing a bit of blood and forcing Emily to back off. The two women circle for the remaining half-minute of the round, and while both women land some punches, neither is able to connect with their shots to their opponent’s head. J-Law takes the round on points, close.

Round 4:

Emily gets an earful from Fates as she leaves the corner as she tries to turn the tide against her opponent. Lawrence gets the upper hand early though, courtesy of a quick combo that connects with DiDo’s mouth, and Emily visibly is frustrated. She lashes out at Lawrence who sidesteps Emily’s punch and comes back with her own jab to the model’s nose. DiDonato quickly retreats before Lawrence can continue to punish her. Emily and J-Law begin to circle each other and Jennifer again finds Emily with her punches despite her shorter reach, driving her gloves into Emily’s belly. DiDonato forced to give up ground as Lawrence continues the assault, and Emily is forced into the ropes. Lawrence continues to pound DiDonato’s toned midriff, but Emily connects with an absolutely haymaker that drives Lawrence back and allows the model to get out of the ropes to start the final minute. Emily feints with her right and Jen buys it, only to be absolutely clocked by a left! Jennifer’s legs wobble and Emily pounces, driving punches into the actress’ body. Lawrence lunges to try and fend DiDonato off, but she misses wildly and Emily lands a hook right on Jen’s jaw, dropping her! Emily quickly backs away as the ref starts to count. Lawrence on all fours at five, on a knee at seven and bounces back up at eight. J-Law shoots a dirty look at Emily as the model closes the distance only for the bell to end the round. DiDonato takes the round courtesy of the knockdown and despite Lawrence’s lead early.

Round 5:

DiDonato may not have won yet, but she’s acting like it, strutting out of her corner smiling and with a bounce in her step. J-Law and DiDo waste no time in going after each other in the fifth and open by going blow for blow with their opponent. Emily drops back and Jen pursues only to eat a straight right from the Sports Illustrated model. DiDo quickly buries a quick one-two into Lawrence’s jugs before backing off. Lawrence not doing too badly despite the late knockdown the previous round, and she once again lands several jabs on Emily even though she does not have the same reach. With a minute left in the round, the two women make a return to circling and trading blows. Neither is able to land any major blows, but Emily makes sure to soften up Lawrence’s body before the bell rings. Emily takes the round on points, close.

Round 6:

J-Law cautiously moves out of her corner, trying to stem the tide of the model and upstart lightweight. Emily darts in and out, throwing two punches and retreating before J-Law can do any harm. DiDo finds a rhythm in her darting motion. In, punch punch, out. In, punch punch out. In punch—AND J-LAW HAMMERS EMILY WITH A RIGHT CROSS! DiDonato goes to the well one too many times and Lawrence is all over her for it. DiDonato staggers back while getting her guard up and Lawrence goes on the offensive. Jen buries punches all over Emily’s belly and breasts, drawing sharp gasps from the model as she gets absolutely pounded into the ropes. Lawrence pumps leather gloves all over the model midriff until Emily finally can clinch and the ref breaks the two women apart. DiDo grimacing as the fight resumes with a half-minute left in the round, and her jab just isn’t stinging as much as it was earlier, and Lawrence is quite content to slam shots into Emily harder than the model dishes them. The bell rings as Emily’s chest is heaving and her belly is reddening by the second. Lawrence takes the round in a strong fashion on points, wide.

Round 7:

Lawrence and DiDonato waste no time in resuming the fight, practically charging at each other to begin the round. Emily lands the first salvo to Jen’s nose, but her second shot misses and Lawrence clocks DiDonato with a right into the model’s jaw, staggering the model. J-Law follows up with a brutal punch to DiDo’s solar plexus, nearly doubling the model up, before finishing off with an uppercut that hits Emily’s chin AND THE MODEL GOES DOWN! Lawrence retreats as the ref starts his count. Fates is screaming at Emily to get up as she gets to all fours at five. Six. Seven. Up to one knee. Eight. Chimera corner holding its breath and hoping that DiDonato stays down. Nine. Emily stands up, legs slightly wobbly. The ref checks in with DiDo before resuming the round.

Lawrence then tries to corner DiDonato before she can get her legs back under herself. Jennifer lands a few jabs on the model, but Emily absorbs most of them into her guard while strategically counterattacking. Midway through the second minute, DiDonato connects with a quick flurry to Lawrence’s body, driving the actress back. J-Law takes a swing to create some distance, but Emily dodges it and buries a right into Lawrence’s solar plexus. Lawrence gasps as she staggers backwards, and DiDo lines up a pair of quick hooks to Jen’s jaw that rock Lawrence and connects with an uppercut of her own THAT DROPS THE ACTRESS! Déjà vu, and Emily backs off to let the ref start the count. Now it’s the Chimera corner that is screaming at Lawrence to get up and the Fates corner hoping that DiDonato has put the match away. Lawrence able to get to her feet at five. Six. Seven. One knee. Eight. Lawrence begins to stand. Nine. Jen is up and tells the ref to back off.

Emily and Jennifer circle for the rest of the round until the bell rings, with Emily coming ahead on the trades. The two women tie the round, given their offense and each having a knockdown.

Round 8:

If the previous round was any indication of the rest of the fight, strap in because this may be a wild round. Both women bound out of their corners despite each being knocked down the previous round, a testament to their fitness. DiDonato gets the advantage early and begins pounding Lawrence’s midriff, driving the air out of the actress. Jennifer punches back at Emily’s chest, but the model punishes Jen by driving a vicious hook into Lawrence’s jaw. J-Law staggers and DiDo follows up with another hook that DROPS LAWRENCE! Emily with her third knockdown of the match and she steps back once again to let the ref start counting. Three. Four. Lawrence gets her hands underneath her. Five. Six. Up to one knee. DiDonato screams “STAY DOWN!” as Jen gets a foot under her at Seven. At eight, J-Law gets both her legs under her despite being a bit wobbly. The ref talks to her and she pushes him away, so he gives Emily the go-ahead.

DiDonato pounces on the vulnerable Lawrence who barely gets her guard up before Emily plugs leather into her body, driving J-Law into the ropes. Lawrence keeps her guard up high to protect her head, but Emily targets Lawrence’s belly and ribs, pounding away at the actress’ body. Jen meekly punches DiDonato, but leaves herself exposed and Emily slams yet another hook into Lawrence’s jaw, dropping J-Law’s guard. Emily keeps punching Lawrence’s body as the actress’ butt is on the ropes AND THE REFEREE PULLS EMILY AWAY AS HE HAS SEEN ENOUGH! Your winner by TKO8, Emily DiDonato!

After:

Emily triumphantly raises her arms with a wide grin on her face. After she gets her gloves removed, she goes over to check in on Jennifer. The actress is still regaining her senses, but give a nod of recognition to Emily before the two women fist-bump. DiDo returns to her corner and mounts the ropes, to wave to the crowd before disappearing to the back.

Lawrence makes her way to the press conference even though she is clearly hurting from match.

“Emily is a great fighter. She has plenty of power, and when I knocked her down, she got back up.”

When asked about her own performance, Jennifer responds candidly, “I’m disappointed in the result, yet. But DiDonato knocked me down three times and I got back up. I also knocked her down, so I generally can’t be too angry.”

DiDonato is upbeat in her interview despite the occasional grimace from the fight.

“Jennifer was amazing tonight. I knocked her down three times and she still got back up. I’m just happy to get a win after last month. Give her props. She was amazing.” Emily pauses. “As to the future, it’s just nice to fight and win and against good opponents. I just want to show how good I am."
