RETRO BOUT: EARLY 1970's

Before: Early 70s bout. It is said that this bout was put together by Raquel Welch, ostensibly for her birthday, financed by Hugh Hefner and fought at the Playboy mansion west. Welch, always one of the hungriest competitors, also had enormous appetites as a spectator and her reputation as a brilliant match maker allowed her to pull the strings on several of the era's most engaging meetings. This contest between two of Britain's best bangers had been festering for months however and would surely have occured without Welch's insistence. St John, hair up, purple bikini, George in straight blonde bangs, halter style black bikini.

During R1: Senseless milling broke out as the jiggly beauties stomped to center ring and began slinging leather from their hips. Wild crashing blows splattered off the chests and chins of both girls, but St. John was clearly the stronger. A cuffing, open hand right caught George on the ear, sending her sputtering to her right and a sweeping left spanked her face, dropping her to her rear-end as the small audience jumped to their feet with a shout. George struggled to her feet as St. John waded in to body her girl into the ropes, and from there an ugly, grinding slugfest developed - girls clinching each other tight, jamming crude right hands into jaws upstairs with Jill much the stronger. She would end the round with a series of slamming right hands on the jaw while holding Susan's head in the crook of her left arm to cap off the shutout, sending the blonde wide eyed and wobbly butt to her corner.

r2: St. John continued on the attack, landing blockbuster right hands to George's fit midriff, wrapping up with the left hand around Susan's back and chugging away with cruel rights underneath to put the blonde on the ropes. Back in the trenches, the women writhed against one another, Jill stretching her foe over the ropes, then plunging back in with exuberant right hand punching between the hips, or short and hard to the jaw. Susan fought dazed throughout, legs trembling, but answering back sporadically - slugging off her heels she couldn't discourage St. John, but down the stretch, the blonde managed a swishing side to side barrage across the jugs that brought a snarl to Jill's face at the bell.

R3: Jill continued to be the aggressor, George the plucky, never-say-die underdog. St. John began drifting low with plunging right hands, buckling George's legs and opening up the blonde's back for crude hammer fist blows as the red head clubbed away with both hands. Again, George would finish the round well, brawling her way off the ropes with wide lefts and rights, finishing up with a batting left/right to the hips, then a clanging left along the jaw that had Jill on her heels at the bell.

R4: St. John opened strong, bulling her girl into the ropes, holding and hitting aggressivly, but George got a second wind and began out slugging the red head toe to toe by the beginning of the second minute. Jill's resolve broke - she stopped punching, covering up and taking a series of curling hooks to her ribs and ear that put her sideways into the ropes. Down the stretch, a breezy, free-swinging blonde attack was under way. St. John bellowed as she hunched up - George's fists splattered loudly off the red head's sides, then the blonde wrapped her foe up with a left across the back and stuffed gorgeous right mitts up into the belly and breasts at the bell. Welch leapt to her feet clapping happily and hooting for Susan George as St. John came up teary eyed at the break.

R5: The girls wrapped up, left hands around one another's waists, right hands free and toe to toe, Susan George beat the stuffing out of Jill St. John this round. Staggering in the clinch, clubbing one another with short right hands on the jaw, often carrying through with the elbow - reaching way back to stuff hard right hands into the hips and belly, the women careened around the ring in a wildly entertaining display of mindless slugging. By the final minute - St. John the bully was sobbing, butt on the ropes, covered up and taking a terrible beating as George heaved in awkward, but heavy leather from both sides. Trembling at the bell, cheeks smeared with tears, St. John blundered to her corner as Raquel Welch jumped up and down, cheering audibly for George.

R6: Susan George completed her comeback this round as Jill St. John's composure broke. George just laid into her foe, palming the left at St. John's shoulder, heaving in whistling right hands to the gut and jugs. Jill's only answer was to clinch, hanging on for dear life as George worked desperately to throw her off and continue the bombardment. St. John slipped to all fours after a breathtaking barrage of sweeping lefts and rights to the belly took her legs out, but she struggled to her feet on instinct. George piled on, clapping the overhand right alongside Jill's jaw, sweeping the left to St. John's ear to drive the red head helpless into the ropes. George let her hands go, flailing without discretion as the red head melted, cowering to her side on the ropes, then slumping to her knees once again - this time for good. Susan George leapt for joy at the sight as Jill St. John puddled in abject ruin. KO6 Susan George.

After: A triumphant George paraded her battered rival around the ring - St. John snivelling and sobbing as she stumbled, unable to accept the stunning result of this fight. Raquel Welch would waste no time in issuing a challenge to George, illustrating how important this fight had been in terms of exposure for the blonde. The win would remain one of the highlights of Susan's somewhat forgotten career - history has chosen to lavish much more attention on her beaten opponent. Jill St. John would not forget this moment however, always recalling the bout with particular bitterness, and even claiming to have won in later decades.
