UNIFIED LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE

Before: Classic meeting of the movie star and daytime veteran--Larue having to remind everyone present that she’s still the champ, calling Charlie ‘just another challenger”. Charlize getting a little antsy without the belt, and insiders report Theron doesn’t like the buzz  Larue’s been getting. Eva probably a little quicker, cuter I approach--Theron a more dedicated puncher and has the legs to make Eva fight, also takes a better shot than the champ. Eva in red bikini, gold belly chain, Theron in white bikini.

During R1: Eva on her bicycle early, bounding in large circles, changing directions to stay off the ropes--she has no intention of fighting this round--just taking a look. Theron dutifully cutting off the ring, touching Larue with the end of her jab--harmless tactical shutout for Theron.

R2: Eva retreating, hands at her hips--she fakes a step right, jerks a sudden left hook off Theron’s  teeth and ducks away to the left as CHARLIZE GOES DOWN! Theron stunned by the sucker punch--up immediately, but clearly surprised at the quickness. Eva starts to dance, sticking the jab to Theron’s belly, moving left, blocking and retreating whenever Charlize punches, then sliding in to put combinations together on the jugs and mouth of the challenger. Shutout and knockdown Eva--Theron shaking her head at herself at the bell.

R3,4: Sweet boxing shutouts for Eva Larue--not too often you see 3 back to back skunk rounds for Charlize. Larue on her toes, hands low, but her constant direction and tempo changes have Charlize fumbling. Eva stepping ion and out, dropping either fist onto Theron’s face, escaping to either side as the blonde covers up late, falls a step behind. Charlize following, getting potshotted--she’s losing the leg war to Eva though 4. Charlize not hurt, but clearly frustrated as swelling starts beneath her left eye.

R5: Charlize sits down on the jab, turning it into a power punching and driving Larue to the corners. Eva doesn’t like that ramrod stick--she’ll bounce off one set of ropes, then into the other, then out into open canvas to escape rather than risk trading at close quarters. Down the stretch, Larue retreating in good order, times Charlize’s jab, immediate, countering with a sharp right hand and THERON IS HURT! Larue capitalizing on the sudden shift--punishes Charlize to the ropes with batting lefts and rights in combination--Theron covering up to take a swarming at the bell--Larue steals a blonde round with the power and flurry.

R6: Theron shakes it off and comes right back at Larue, stabbing that jab between the breasts and forcing the brunette into tight spots. Charlize wrapping her arm around Larue’s waist takes away the evasive spin in the corner and finally gets the slugfest she;s been looking for. Eva with her fists at her chest, trying to clip hooks or uppercuts in counter mode--but she’s giving up horrific straight arm shots to her waist--Theron using her left elbow to shove Larue back then puts her punches together in licking strokes up and down both sides. Larue’s legs buckled on separate occasions as Theron twists her lean frame into hooks to the sternum--Eva clinching, holding for breaks--Theron pushed back by the ref, then walking calmly back in to pile. Larue getting badly beaten at the bell, basically held up by the ropes--Theron wrenching a 10-8 round from the brunette without a knockdown leave Eva trembling during the break.

R7: Big shutout Charlize Theron. Larue trying to open up the ring, but Theron steps over, hammers the jab between the breasts to steer Eva, then bounces face with either a snapping hook or crisp straight right hand. Larue just getting tanned--hands at her chest, she’s relying too much on her legs to get her out of range and Theron’s finding her head with authority. Late in the round--Charlize doubles up on the jab to the face, then spanks a sharp right cross to sprawl he champ on the ropes. Bell sounds--Eva swooning--Charlize nodding to ringsiders feels her opponent crumbling.

R8,9: Champ digs in, and it’s war as both girls take turns rocking each other with blasting 3 punch combinations, it’s sweet destruction--well-turned punches in clusters--bodies and heads getting stroked up--girls fighting at close range, using the shoulder and elbow to nudge one another back. Theron just too heavy-handed for Eva--Larue getting hurt to the body from that digging hook to the solar plexus--Eva doing a lot of shoe shining across the breasts or face, stepping back to walk Theron into punches, but Charlize is the aggressor. Charlize takes both rounds--girls have to be separated after the 9th bas tempers flare, nerves fray.

R10: Fiercest exchanges of the evening as Charlize drives Eva back with straight one-twos, Larue answering with swatting hooks and right hands as she pivots to either side of the blonde. Both girls getting touched plenty. Down the stretch, both lean into grazing right hands, then twist back into left hooks, but Eva beats Charlize to the punch, THERON IS HURT! Mouthpiece spinning in midair as Charlize soaks up the hardest punch of the fight--blonde out over her feet, hands pushing out and Larue goes to work. Bouncing her fists off Theron’s ribcage, Eva gets Charlize ropeside, then starts in on the face, Larue pounds Theron numb at the bell but can’t get her out of there-crowd roaring as the girls are pried apart once again. Lengthy delay, close fight comes back a DRAW!
Ref between the girls, holding them by the wrists--Theron shaking her head in bitter disappointment as an elated Eva Larue retains the belt.

After: Situation hasn’t come up since Bridges/Carpenter--back to back draws for these two championship lightweights who can’t seem to sort out the pecking order between them. Larue taunts Theron in the ring, holding the belt up under Charlize’s nose like a catcher showing the runner the ball at home plate--harsh words exchanged as officials crowd in. Both girls had the other on the verge of quitting--Eva almost going out in the 6th, Charlize in the 10th, both dominating for long stretches, with many rounds scored as shutouts for one or the other fighter, Larue pouring on the salt in post fight, claiming “She was giving it up to me in the clinches, begging me to carry her, asking me to go easy. I kept asking her ;’where’s your pride, girl?’ but you know--people get strange under pressure.” Ouch.
