Before battle of mature blondes promises to be a terrific match up. Both women are complete fighters, excellent tacticians and solid fundamentals. Smith has looked stronger in recent bouts, but Demornay has had the loftier memories, winning important titles in the 80s and is still the more feared opponent. During:

R1-2: Rebecca POUNDS Courtney to the body these rounds, Shutting Smith out of the scoring and keeping her hunched over in pain for the full 6 minutes. Demornay’s withering body shots seem to sap Smith of her ability to punch, and all Courtney can do is try to stay square to the opponent and soak up the punishment. Demornay allows herself a little smirk of satisfaction after hollowing out Smith in the second--punishing way to start for Courtney .

R3: Rebecca  starts to put combinations together upstairs, and Smith answers back in a fierce two-way round. Demornay stronger by the final minute, chops away at Courtney from close range.

R4: Courtney is losing the chess match, so she turns puncher this round and turns things around with power. Now Smith takes it to Rebecca’s body as the latter looks to box, and punishing Ken Norton type lefts along the ropes have Demornay holding on. Smith shove Rebecca back and stays on her, punching well with both hands to the bell to take her first round.

R5: Smith up tempos and catches Demornay flat footed, A vicious lead right sets up a flurry of punches culminating in a short left hook that snaps Demornay’s head back and lays her out along the ropes. Demornay badly dazed, is defenseless. and Courtney storms in with looping overhand rights to the head, clubbing Rebecca to all fours, Demornay beats the count, but her ice blue eyes are wide, and her lips are trembling as Courtney barges in again. All Smith to the bell as she hammers away at Demornay’s flanks and sneaks uppercuts inside to the chin.

R6,7: Tactically crucial rounds as Rebecca stands and trades with Courtney in an effort to take back the momentum she has lost. In a series of memorable exchanges, Smith proves the better woman as time and again Demornay staggers back from the fire to regroup. Smith coming on, finishes up both round by hammering Demornay’s sides with thudding one-twos.

R8: Demornay still trading, still trying to win, but Courtney is beating her to the punch, and has clearly found a rhythm, in the final minute, Smith, looking very loose and relaxed, bounces back from a pawing Demornay left, then leans in to crack Rebecca with a right hand counter that has Demornay wobbly butt. Rebecca clinches and grabs her way out of the round badly hurt once again.

R9,10: A sober beating for Demornay as she refuses to quit, but just doesn’t have enough pop o keep Courtney honest. Smith takes what she wants in these rounds, standing and banging at Demornay’s body, hooking her to head, landing right crosses. Rebecca is lumpy faced and obviously discouraged at the final bell, thoroughly dismantled by the resurgent Courtney Thorne Smith. Unanimous Decision Smith.

After: It’s impressive, all court game that Courtney used to break down and beat up one of the best technical boxers in the game. Even more important, Smith showed real heart in soaking up a dreadful, sustained body attack early, to come from three rounds down the stretch. The senior’s division is calling for a Rebecca Demornay who hasn’t had a good win in looong time.
