Before Jenny G officially on a fast track, fighting one of the toughest schedules thjs year and rebounding off a loss with yet another top contender. Adding to the mix, the agreement in principle that the winner of this fight would be selected to welcome Charlize Theron back to the lightweight, if, as and when Big Blonde decodes it’s time. Judd still stung by the beating Jen Lopez gave her, anxious to erase that showing and thinking Garner might be tailor made: “Jenny hasn’t shown she can impose her will in a big fight,” says Ashley, “and she definitely doesn’t like a body on her. I see the only fight she can win and I’m not playing it that way. I’m going to be on top. I’m going to leave my scent on this girl.”

Judd in red hipster bikini, twist tie top, Jennifer in red high neck sports bra, red aerobics bottoms, hair back.

During R1: Garner with Vernon Forrest look, feet wide, angular lines, working behind the jab with a lancing right cross as she looks to establish distance. Exactly opposite plan for Judd—she’s cocked the right at her chin, left across her body, looking to get underneath the jab and collapse the distance. Ashley stamping a hard jab against Garner’s flat belly, hooking up from there—Judd dictating early. Midway through, Ashley with thet quick slip to her left under Garner’s right hand, comes back a clocking hook on the chin and JENNY GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Jennifer with forlorn eyes, wanders to the ropes, Ashley with a hard smile, breaks out the lead pipe and goes to work on a hurting girl’s rib cage. Judd sinking it in, then bodying up, keeping Garner pushed to a seat at the ropes—textbook first round for Ashley as she stuns Jen, then breaks her down in the body.

R2: Judd executing flawlessly—she’s outjabbing the taller women, thudding stick to the chest steering Jen around, sneaky, short right hands have Garner raring back awkwardly and that money hook wearing on the brunette’s left side. Midway through, Garner misses a right hand over the top again—Judd slipping in, turns over the exact same punch that caught Jenny in the first and GARNER GOES DIWN! Jenny dropped to her back by that devastating counter hook—Judd strutting, smirking in the neutral corner as Garner tasks a groggy 8. Second verse same as the first—Judd saunters back in, bodies her girl to the ropes, and lays pipe against that rigid ribcage—Garner hunched forward at the waist, grunting in pain, not punching back as Ashley helps herself through 2.

R3: Garner showing signs of life—she’s taken a cudgeling thus far, but still has legs, opens up the ring this round. Judd unable to get inside as Jen doubles up the jab, keeps moving to her left. Nice tactical recovery round for Garner—she gets on the board, doesn’t get hurt, and has Ashley fighting her fight at last.

R4: Good crisp action as both get things done. Garner more selective with her right hand, not giving Judd as many opportunities to counter, but Ashley leading well with her jab at times—fight flows back and forth across the ring as girls mount stepping rushes at one another. Down the stretch, Garner misses a searing right—Judd awkward as she leans away, doesn’t see the follow up hook and ASHLEY IS HURT! Garner jabbing her girl to the ropes, steps in close and thumps a three punch barrage off Judd’s stomach, sitting the brunette into the ropes mouth agape at the bell.

R5: Ashley roaring out of her corner pounding a lead right hand to Garner’s chest, swiveling her head a compact hook and Jenny hits the ropes in disarray. Judd doubling up with baseball bat hooks to the waist, suddenly comes upstairs to kiss jaw and JENNY GOES DOWN! Garner gets just hijacked and dropped to all fours—she’s up quick startled as Ashley can’t wait to get back on. Judd irresistible this round—she gets on Jennifer’s chest and BLUDGEONS away downstairs, palming the taller girl’s biceps, muscling her into the ropes, smothering every receipt. Garner’s eyes fluttery, legs weak—she’s clinching around Ashley’s triceps, trying to bog Judd down and it’s not working.

R6: Garner told in no uncertain terms—lay on the ropes and you’re going to lose this fight. Jenny responds—legs, legs, legs, jabs, jabs, jabs. Judd circling, stalking, but frustrated at the rangy brunette’s tactics as Jennifer re-establishes her foundation.

R7: Garner dictating with the stick, owning the m idle of the ring—Judd hanging back, moving her head but tentative—she can’t get into her comfort zone. Midway through, Garner extends a spearing right that momentarily dazzles Judd—Jen able to step in with a tight hook on the ear and a withering right uppercut sends Judd reeling to the ropes. Garner marauding forward, pumps to the body with lanky action, then comes up the middle with the tight right uppercut—Judd taking punches flush and not throwing back—she’s rocked and starry eye at the bell.

R8: Jenny surging—Judd looking shopworn, confused as Garner uptempos, Jenny gets another booming right on Ashley’s mouth early in the round, loosening up Ashley’s knees. Midway though, tough Garner hooks in the breadbasket have Judd stooping forward, hands extended to push Jen back and Garner lands that sneaky right uppercut to pick Judd’s head up. Down the stretch, punishing  consolidation from Garner as she batters Judd up against the ropes—Ashley covered up, rolling slowly side to side, back and forth, just trying to weather the storm,

R9: Classy, classy boxing from Garner as she rings Ashley up with the fastback last round, goes to the junk this round as Judd can’t make the adjustments. Jenny safe and sound outside, needling her jab to Judd’s eyes, pivoting to the left, keeping the fight in the middle of the ring. On the few occasions that Ashley ventures in close—Garner’s got that beautiful tight right uppercut to send Judd back outside.

R10: Ashley looking harried, worked on—she comes out stubbornly, determined to end this thing. Jenny eats her up with stinging jabs that land like power shots, stopping Ashley’s advances, then backing the brunette up with right or left uppercuts. Judd tries again, and again, met and rejected each time and sent wobbling backward as Garner bangs her up. After the first minute—Ashley’s done—she’s sullen, retreating to the ropes, batting at Garner’s jab but wanting no more of the spygirl’s leather. Jenny doesn’t spare the horses—final minute sees her jab in close, then rock Judd with uppercuts in combination, finishing up the bout strong with Ashley sagging into the ropes, gloves at her face, just taking punches. Comes back a STRONG UD10 Jennifer Garner.

After: HEARTBREAK Ashley. Judd wiping at quiet tears, hands on hips, staring bleakly at the canvas—how she let a damaged Jennifer Garner get back into this fight is a haunting question. Garner giddy in triumph—Cinderella story continues to unfold. The boxing is definitely there, but this fight saw the power as well. Judd stunned on many occasions and rendered unable to answer back for long stretches, Garner obviously learning well from the Cat Bell experience.

Fast track equals the right track for HISC newcomer. Jennifer has supposedly set herself up for Charlize’s inevitable return to lightweight, though she has bigger and brighter in mind.

“Despite all propaganda to the contrary, the sun does not rise and set on Charlize. I have fought better. I will fight better…maybe before she deigns to come back to the toughest division in the biz. She’s a good fighter, a great fighter, but the publicity around this woman, NOBODY’S that good. And I guess Peta Wilson showed the world that in spades.”

Jennifer shows not only deft skills I the ring, but I intra-stable politics,

“We know who the best ‘pound for pound’ is that’s Eliza. We know who the best lightweight is and that’s Catherine Bell…for now. What that leaves for Charlize, I’ll let others decide. In the meantime, don’t expect me to start knitting, waiting for Charlize to come back. A little tinkering here and there and I’ll be ready for Cat and the championship.”

Told that Shannon Elizabeth has the title, Jennifer responds with disparagement.

“One-trick pony. It’s a nice trick, but I could beat her right now.”

Then pulling out her best Ernie Banks.

“Let’s fight two.”

Her dimpled smile beams into the camera.

“Right now, Shannon, right now.”
