Before: Biggest test of Charisma’s career? “I’d have to say, given that it’s a title fight and Jennifer’s coming in highly motivated, that yes, this is probably right up there with Theron for me,” Carpenter admits in prefight. “Jen’s fighting with edge right now and that’s when she’s at her best—that mean streak makes her sharper in the ring when it comes out. Not saying I condone what Jennifer did to Charlize after their fight, but I understand it—I think people will think twice before taking advantage of Garner again. Technically, HISC fighters in general tend to get hit with right hands. So I’ll be looking for that, but I’m not going to change m game just because it’s Jennifer garner in the opposite corner.” Jennifer’s publicist reining in the press from the get go—no questions or comments about Brook/Ryan/Theron—no questions about Affleck—dry, canned commentary from Ms. Garner. “At the end of the night, I GO HOME WITH THE BELTS,” Jennifer concludes. “I don’t see Carpenter finishing the fight.” Jennifer in electric blue bikini, bra strap top—Carpenter in navy fighting bikini.

During R1” Garner explodes into Carpenter early, jumping in hook-off-the-jab—nice compact clock on the chin and body behind it as Jennifer finishes up piling into CC’s chest—Carpenter sent reeling back wide-eyes by the b low. Charisma setting up ropeside, but too stunned to counter—she’s mitt-meat as far as Garner’s concerned. Jennifer getting on Carpenter with robust 4 punch rips: right/left thick on the waist, right/left on the ears—mop up right uppercut to brush CC back into the ropes. Charis dukes at temples, buffeted side to side and backwards—she’s just rolling, riding out the hurt. Garner keeping up a constant, thudding body attack, pushing her face into Charisma’s uppercut counters warning Jennifer’s chin—Garner backing off respectful I the dying moments, Mission accomplished Jen: get the points lead early on CC.

R2: Garner attacking brisk, showing that Jermaine Taylor jabbing look midring. Good stick stuff—piercing CCs guard up top, spanking loud off her body—Jennifer’s legs rotating her clockwise, effortlessly turning CC’s right flank. Charisma dukes up, palms out to parry stick, but giving away tummy on the cheap. Garner piles up the points behind the poke, edges in late to work Carpenter’s midsection in earnest—rapid, rigid lefts and right shaking CC’ chassis as she stand up earmuff sponging hurt.

R3: Carpenter off the ropes with a sharp, rising jab looking to drop a sneaky right hand onto Jennifer’s jaw—Garner contesting the jab with her own, spring to her left in wide-ranging opening. Garner’s jab eventually suppresses Charisma’s—Carpenter covering up, bending at the waist, sluggish as Jenny circles pounds away stick. Final minute, Jennifer into Carpenters body with ripping lefts and rights, backing CC to ropes, rocking her the jerking right uppercut in close. Round ends to the sight of  Garner’s right arm trapping CC’s left arm, Garner’s free left hook curling tight, doing repeat business to Charisma’s helpless, heaving rack, CC open-mouthed at the bell: Garner not known for jug mugging, but more than capable in that department, send Charisma back to her corner throbbing.

R4: Garner superior midring, too dynamic, too athletic—carpenter getting stamped the jab, steered and cajoled as Jenny circles. Nasty new weapon Jenny: right uppercut lead startles Carpenter—Jennifer getting it close in as CC tries to close. Midway through, sharp one-twos through the middle set up that jump-in hook on the chops—Garner carrying her weight into Charisma with popping shot, sending CC reeling to ropes, Final minute—POUNDING body work has Charisma drooping, aching—Jennifer taps her a left uppercut on the mouth, SINKS that left hook harsh to liver—poor CC groans, sags into ropes, leaning forward to clinch up hurt around Garner’s triumphant hips. Jennifer big through 4, pounding out the points—CC’s not going to be able to counterpunch here way though this one.

R5: Hotly contested minutes midring—Charisma uptempoing, pointing the left shoulder at garner, jabbing to her body, seeking hooks and screened right hands up top. Jennifer jabbing to Charismas chest to locate her, then looking for more of those crushing step-in hooks—Garner obviously trying to take Charisma out at this point. Down the stretch, Garner jumps in, curls into her hook, misses over the top as CC ducks down: carpenter back with a stubby right hand behind the head—SCATTERS JENNIFER TO ALL FOURS! Garner up quickly, massaging the occipital region of her head and complaining to the ref: Carpenter gets a finger waggle for rabbit punching, unintentional though it may have been. Startling shot enough to turn the tide however—CC jabbing Garner upright at the ropes—JG dukes up, rigid—Carpenter able to unleash a stream of hard right hands ear/jaw to buffet Garner to her right along the apron, Jenny hits corner, head lolling, just standing there: she’s hurt, soaking up right hands at the bell as Charimsa belts away teeth bared,

R6: Carpenter follows up a strong fifth with a methodical sixth—walking Jennifer down, jabbing her to the body, scorching her sneaky right hands from that closed stance. Cross carries CC forward—she sets up inside with Garner, swiping short to belly and ribs, bumping the left shoulder, seeking chin right uppercuts. Garner willing to work at close quarters, still a little buzzed by those right hands last round—she’s sluggish, malleable—Carpenter able to muscle challenger to ropes,. Harsh, standup, phone-booth two-way to the bell—girls grinding foreheads and shoulders, hooking the bejesus out of cramped and trembling guts, mercilessly ripping right uppercuts whenever one or the droops forward.  Garner cut in the mouth, bested once again: Champ’s showing her mettle with midrounds comeback.

R7:  Carpenter outjabbing Jennifer, startling—at one point, Charisma with that rising poke off the hip gets three abrupt shots onto Jen’s mouth, puts the right hand behind, swats the hook and knocks Jen’s mouthpiece right off her teeth! Garner flat-footed, confused—she spends a lot of time bracing herself behind a high guard, taking body shots as carpenter whittles away behind and beneath the elbows. CC coming forward, just taking it to a sluggish Jennifer Garner in methodical fashion. Jennifer wary of right hands now, keeping her left taped to her cheek—opens up the playbook for Carpenter as she pounds away to that sturdy waist, puts her hook to good use in close.

R8: Hotly contested stanza—girls muscular midring, riding heads and raised guards into one another, swapping body shots in thick, spanking trade, Even  stevens till third minute: Jen with a tidy right uppercut to chin seems to take something out of Charisma—Carpenter backing off with a dulled expression—Jenny comes forward. CC setting up on the ropes “hurt”—Jennifer correctly assesses it as one of carpenter’s little ploys, doesn’t bite. Garner stooping, darting the belly jab, ducking back outside to regroup—CC baiting the trap, can’t pull the trigger as Jennifer ekes out cagey late points.

R9: Garner really pumping the jab, lumping Carpenter up, steering her midring. Jennifer letting her hands go—bashing away to biceps on CC, fitting right crosses in behind the  stick, hooking the breadbasket on the way out. Carpenter’s dilemma—she needs to catch Jen a counter-punch to knock her out, but can’t coax Garner to the ropes—challenger content to circle, chip away. Both girls reading the other’s out-punch pretty well—Jennifer missing that sudden jump-in hook as CC ducks it: Jen rolling with Carpenter’s screened right hands.

R10: Garner with a tasty flurry to breadbasket, chopping up tummy as CC stands rooted behind her guard-challenger able to dance away to her left as Carpenter breathes deep, bats her gloves together, tries to press the issue. Jennifer away, away, away—pounding her jab against CC’s upperchest, face and shoulders, feinting with right hands, then circling away rather than pitching—pure clock management from a smart challenger tonight, CC flustered: can’t set up at the ropes this late, can’t press too hard against Jen’s intercepting right uppercut—she’s left trying to box Garner midring and Jen’s legs won’t be haggled with. Garner breezy to the bell, marking Charisma stick, lifting mitts and strutting before the announcement—CC chagrined, nodding—even she suspects the worst. Comes back UD10 for the winner and NEW lightweight champion—Jennifer Garner.

After: Carpenter clapping taped hands, nodding at the decision—classy brunette just got outboxed tonight, has no regrets. ‘She did everything right,” Charisma admits. “She hurt me early, she hit me some GOOD body shots, and when I came forward, she countered me well. You know, she got the discipline to hang back when she needs to, she’s got the strength to press the pace on you—she’s tough, tough out when she gets it all together.” Garner all dimples, supreme once again and already looking forward. “We have no binding obligation to Biel as I understand it.” Jennifer says in postfight, “but I’m happy to fight her—I mean why not Jessica? Charisma, you know—she’s tough—I took away most of what she wanted to do so she just turned puncher and made a fight of this thing in the middle rounds—you have to respect that. She was really tired late—I felt my legs were using her up and my bodywork early had pretty much drained her tank so I just worked her for the decision.”
