Annette Funicello vs. Luciana Paluzzi

Circa 1964

The studio of American International Pictures was the scene of tonight’s fight. Two stars of their new picture Muscle Beach Party would be taking on each other, Annette Funicello and Luciana Paluzzi. This fight would not be only be for promoting the movie but also to settle the disagreement these two had on set. Annette felt Luciana had been trying to upstage her throughout the entire shoot of the picture and Luciana did not deny it. She knew this was a chance for her to be seen by the American audience and she wanted to make the most of it.

This led to catty behavior on the set between the two. Now these two would settle this in the ring tonight.

The referee for the bout would be Elizabeth Montgomery who was the wife of the director of the picture incidentally. She came into the ring wearing a black one piece with a bare back design.

Annette Funicello wears a white two piece bikini with red leather gloves for the bout.

Luciana Paluzzi is in a light multicolored two piece bikini also with red gloves for the fight.

Round 1:

The fighters came out early with some heavy punches aimed at each other. But Annette took the early edge as she got some bombs to Luciana’s midsection. Paluzzi backed off and was woozy. This was an open invitation to Funicello who used her superior legs to crowd Paluzzi and unleash some hooks and crosses to her head and midsection. Paluzzi clinches and ties up Funicello until they were broken up by Montgomery. This bought Luciana the time to circle around and away from Funicello. Paluzzi tried to hold off Funicello with some punches to her head but the bell rang before much could be done. Funicello returns to her corner happily knowing she took the opening round with those big shots.

Round 2:

Luciana decided to beat Annette at her own game this round. She started off with some curving left and rights to Funicello’s midsection. Then she moved upstairs to Annette’s head with some snappy hooks. Funicello seemed lost and unable to fire back and get off some combinations. Now Paluzzi circled and got inside again with some right hands to Annette’s stomach. When Annette did get free she got some more shots to her breasts and midsection.

After the bell rang, Paluzzi now returned happily having tied the bout at 1 round a piece.

Round 3:

During the break both fighters seemed to be glaring at each other, their chests rising and falling.

Luciana came out this round with some short uppercuts to Annette’s face. Funicello answered after a couple and soon we had 3 minutes of trading blows. This was like fighting in a phone booth as the two fighters went into slugfest mode. Paluzzi would back Funicello up with some hard right hook to her midsection. Then Annette would get off a couple crosses to Luciana’s head.

This round was a close one maybe taken by Luciana.

Round 4:

Annette opened first this round with some more punches to Luciana’s midsection. Then she went to a couple uppercuts to Paluzzi’s face. Again she clinched with Annette and again it was broken up by Elizabeth. This time Annette whipped some left and rights up into Paluzzi’s head and body. By the bell rang, some of the fight had gone out of Luciana’s eyes.

Round 5:

Annette threw some left punches to Paluzzi’s midsection that landed hard. Soon she had Luciana back against the ropes. There Funicello leaned into a series of rights and lefts before Luciana fell to the canvas. PALUZZI GOES DOWN! Annette stood there for a moment before Montgomery ushered her to a neutral corner. This bought Luciana the extra time need to rise and stop the count. But she was a beaten fighter sadly. Funicello resumed her attack with more heavy rights and lefts AND THE REF STEPS IN! Elizabeth pulled Funicello off of Paluzzi. TKO R5 – Annette Funicello.

After:

Annette seemed to glow in the light of her victory. She was heard to say, “Well we all know whose movie this is.” She raised her gloves to accentuate this win and statement. She watched as Luciana was brought around in her corner. Funicello made sure to pose and show off in front of Paluzzi.
