BREC BASSINGER VS CAMILA MENDES

Brec: 21 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m), 7-5-0, 7 KO since 2019, Pretty Little Punchers

Camila: 26 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m),17-10-0, 17 KO since 2017, Odds & Ends Fight Studio

Before: “I was a little surprised Brec accepted my challenge,” Camila Mendes tells the pre-fight presser. “I mean she lost her last two fights. I would have thought she’d try to duck me, but I do appreciate her acceptance. I made the challenge because I like to see for myself if certain ‘prized’ rookies are really all that good. It’s no secret PLP sees Brec as a ‘prize’—I’m out to see if she is a real prize or just a boobie prize.”

Brec Bassinger rolled her eyes: “You aren’t going to distract me with a lot of trash talk, Camila. I am perfectly aware I am struggling—at the moment—but you keep talking like that and you’ll be the boobie who gets the prize—my knocking your mouthy block off!”

Camila smirked: “You have spirit, I’ll give you that, but I’ve got the talent and that’ll get me the win.”

“Don’t count your wins before they are on your record,” Brec growled. “I’ll see you in the ring!”

“Looking forward to it,” Camila said with another smirk and Brec stalked off the stage.

The two did indeed meet again in the ring. Brec was in a leotard pink with a multi-colored upper body. Black cloth faux belt at the waist. Light green gloves and boots. Camila was in a black one pieces with white boots and gloves (black laces). Brec’s hair was in a perky ponytail. Camila’s was in a tight battle braid. Brec stared coldly at Camila all during the ring instructions, but Camila simply ignored her, which seemed to vex the young blonde all the more. However the ring instructions went off without a physical incident though the glove “tap” seemed rather loud as Brec slammed her gloved fists into Camila’s. Then they returned to their corners. The bell rang…

R1: Brec attacked quickly firing out jabs that smacked Camila hard in the face and knocked her head back. Camila seemed slow to react to this early aggression from Brec and Brec now shifted to swatting the brunette to the jaw and chin. Camila belatedly fought back with the jab, but Brec was dancing around too much to make a good target. Then Brec went to the midsection to hook Camila hard in the belly and ribs. Camila grunted and started to tip forward and it was then Brec brought a crashing right uppercut into Camila’s chin. Camila’s head snapped back hard, her knees buckled and SUDDENLY CAMILA MENDES WAS FACE DOWN ON THE CANVAS! Brec stood over the fallen brunette with a gloating look on her face and had to be ordered to the neutral corner by the referee. This seemed to give Camila Mendes precious extra seconds to full herself together and rise to beat the count at “EIGHT!” Camila then covered up to maintain a tight defense that kept Brec from being able to finish her off in the remaining minute or so of the round. However Brec did get the knockdown and so won the round easily. Brec was looking very pleased with herself returning to her corner. There was a cold fire in Camila Mendes’ eyes as she made her way back to her stool.

R2: Camila now looking to seize control of the bout by attacking with a shifting barrage of head and body shots. Brec banged up steadily, but doggedly hangs in and fires back her own head/body counters. Two are circling each other as the trading continues with increasing speed. Things staying very even but then Brec able to duck down and pop up with a solid right uppercut to Camila’s chin. Camila falls back on shaky legs, gloves up protectively around her head. Brec now pounding away at Camila’s midsection. Camila able to stabilize herself and then strike back with rocking blows to the sides of Brec’s head. Brec falls back, but Camila cautious, not following up. Two circle exchanging quick flurries to the bell. Close round, but judges give it to Brec Bassinger.

R3: Camila again out quickly and targets Brec’s head with her opening punches. Brec struck to the sides of the head, then it is straight shots into her face and finally the young blonde’s chin and jaw are clipped. Brec looking woozy as she falls back under this barrage. She is managing to shield her head from further punching, but now Camila driving hooks into Brec’s stomach using hat black cloth belt as a target. Brec hunched up, but fighting back with hooks of her own to punish Camila’s ribs. Camila looking strong to the bell as she maintains pressure despite Brec’s jabbing efforts. Round goes wide to Camila Mendes.

R4: Camila moves out rapidly once more, but Brec is moving quickly too. Brec not such an easy target this round as bobs and weaves, while striking at Camila as she attempts to advance. Two circle first to the right and then to the left as they both seem to be looking for openings. Finally, Camila able to just charge in and smite Brec to the jaw with hard left/right, but Brec answers with solid, left/right combo to the brunette’s chin. Both fighters fall back, regroup and then plunge in to smash hooks into each other’s body. Camila pushing Brec slowly back with the impact of her hooks. Brec stubborn as she gives ground. Bell sounds. Brec able to keep this round close, but Camila able to edge her out on the judges’ cards.

R5: Brec and Camila go right back at it, up close and personal. They are toe to toe virtually the whole round. Sweaty foreheads nearly touching, steely glares as they look each other in the eye for signs of quit and all the while moving elbows like piston rods to keep the body punching constant. This time, however, Brec seems able to set her feet more effectively and her hooks start causing Camila to bend over. Then Brec attacks Camila’s overhanging breasts and a stung Camila falls back. Brec following, but encounters fresh counters from Camila. Brec then able to slip in an right uppercut to tag Camila to the chin causing her to stumble back. Camila doesn’t retreat far and is jabbing back at the bell, but Brec Bassinger has been able to pull out a close round.

R6: Plenty of fight left in both fighters as they come out punching for the new round. Camila back to attacking Brec to the sides of the head. Brec trying to hunch up against these blows while striking back at Camila’s chin. Camila showing some nifty footwork late in the round as she seems to circle right, drawing Brec with her, but then she suddenly shifts to the left and clouts Brec to the jaw with a crunching right. Brec staggered by the blow, tries to keep her mitts up as she lurches away, but Camila seeing her chance now brings more crushing rights and lefts against Brec’s jaw. Brec’s head whipped to the right and then to the left, her legs falter and her high guard weakens. Camila then smashes a straight right hand between Brec’s loose mitts and catches her between the eyes. Brec totters backwards and Camila now brings right/left uppercuts into Brec’s chin. BREC”S LEGS FLY OUT FROM UNDER HER AND DOWN SHE CRASHES ONTO HER BACK! Camila wastes no time getting to neutral corner. Brec on her back, trying to rise as the referee counts. She is able to push herself up on one arm but that is the best she can do before the referee cries:

“NINE!...TEN!...YER OUT!”

THE WINNER CAMILA MENDES DEFEATS BREC BASSINGER KO6!

After: “Told you I would beat that blonde punk and I did,” says Camila. She sounds like she was none-too-happy with Brec and shows it by soon forcing the dazed blonde on a walk of shame. “Yeah, she knocked me down, but I got up. I knocked HER down and she DIDN’T get up! That the difference between a winner and a loser!”

“I had her scared, that’s why she was mean to me in the post fight,” says Brec Bassinger later. “You saw how she would give me little punches in the butt to make me move quicker. She did that just to make people forget I knocked her down. Maybe I shouldn’t have gloated over her, but I did knock her down and she tried to pay me back.”

Camila Mendes was likely the favorite going into this fight and was able to get the win, but Brec Bassinger was no easy win for the more experienced fighter. No can say if Camila might not have been able to beat the count in R1 if Brec had not wasted time gloating over her. An understandable young fighter mistake that one hopes will be a lesson for Ms. Bassinger in the futire. Meanwhile Camila Mendes continues to look very good, able to over come adversity and get the win. Fans will be looking forward to the future fights for both fighters.
