Amber Heard vs. Missy Peregrym

BEFORE:

Blonde/brunette tilt interesting in a lot of ways. Few FCBA fighters have had as decorated a career as Missy, who's won four titles in two weight classes and may well be headed for the Hall of Fame. But, Missy's hit a rough patch lately, and, at age 37, some have begun to wonder if the years have begun to take their toll. The brunette herself, however, isn't concerned. "I've still got everything I always had. The speed, the athleticism, all of it. I've lost some fights, but that happens here. I'm far from finished, and I'll prove it."

The blonde, meanwhile, is a hard-luck story. With the looks and profile to get fights, she spent half a decade gaining and losing management and didn't get consistent work until she was seven years into her career. She's still shy of twenty career fights despite debuting in 2010, and, while she's shown flashes of what many experts believe she could be, she's continued to be unable to break through. Amber, though, believes that changes tonight. "This is the fight I need," the blonde says with a nod. "Kurylenko was big, but Missy? Win that one, and everyone will have to admit I've arrived. And, I'm about to arrive."

ROUND ONE:

Peregrym making with the legs early, bouncing around the ring like a flyweight, snapping jabs and circling, showing Amber all KINDS of looks. Heard not biting, though. She's not going to chase or get out of what she wants to do, which is set up at range and box her rival. Eventually, Missy settles down and begins fighting on Amber's terms. Mistake. BOOM! Straight right, Heard and MISSY IS HURT! Peregrym steppin' in fencepost holes and Amber's ALL IN. Heard hot-tossing at the reeling brunette, backing her to the ropes and giving her a thorough beating. Missy hanging on, jabbing back here and there, working clock, and, despite the blonde's best efforts, the brunette manages to run it out. At the bell, Peregrym's still standing. But, Heard's taken the first wide to lead 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Amber to work early, following up, but, it quickly becomes apparent that Missy's shaken most of the damage, as she begins firing back with both hands. Heard thinks better of pressing the issue any further and retreats back to gunnery range. Peregrym again sets up on these terms and begins boxing with, perhaps to give those legs more time to come all the way back. For the first half of the round, it's the blonde who gets the better of things, but, as the clock hits 1:30, Missy begins slipping and dipping and angling and using all that athleticism, and it makes a difference. She slowly makes up the stagger on Heard, and, by the last 30 seconds, has pulled in front. Amber's still scoring, but it's the brunette who's getting more done right to the bell. When it rings, Peregrym's taken the points and evened the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Missy picking up right where she left off. She's got all the geometry down now, getting to spots, getting off in combination. And, now, she's putting down a suppressive fire that's tossing the blonde onto the defensive again and again. Heard trying to get her offense going, but can't get out of neutral. She's spending too much time covering up and waiting her turn. While Peregrym scores with both hands, backing the blonde up over and over again. Amber can't seem to find a solution, and, while she works on it, the brunette takes firm control of the proceedings. By the final minute, she's got amber on the ropes and is giving her a shellacking. Heard's not hurt, but she's being touched up in a major way right to the bell. When the round finally ends, Peregrym has it wide and has gone into the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

More dipping, slipping and angling from the brunette, who reestablishes control immediately. Heard again thrown to the defensive, covering, backing, countering here and ther....BOOM! Right hand counter, Amber! And Missy is HURT! Peregrym rumblin', stumblin', fumblin' backward as Amber pours on the leather. Peregrym retreats to the ropes, which might be the only thing holding her up, as, for the second time in the fight, the blonde makes with the heavy guns while the former champion simply tries to survive. Peregrym rolling, blocking, jabbing back here and there to keep the referee away, all while Heard sits down on her punches, looking for the one that will end the proceedings. She shakes Missy twice, but that's all she can do before the bell rings. It's Amber wide and the cards are even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Heard on a rampage. Missy's still buzzed and the blonde beauty knows it. So, she simply finds the range and calls in strike after strike. Peregrym an almost stationary target. Doesn't have the legs to move, and can only avoid so much of all the leather buzzing around her by slipping and blocking. There's just too much of it, and too much getting through. Peregrym taking such a thumping that the referee begins looking in, considering stopping the thing. Missy able to hold him off with a little offense here and there, but, by the final minute, she's trapped on the rope and taking again...and, again, the ref's on a hair trigger as Amber tosses everything she has at the brunette in an effort to finish. For the third time, however, she can't do it. The bell rings with Missy still standing. Amber, however, has pitched a shutout and leads 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

Heard continuing to dominate. Missy giving ground, keeping the guard high, countering here and there. She's playing for time and Amber knows it. So, the blonde keeps pushing, keeps looking for the shot that will finally end the fight and get her the huge win that might, indeed, break her out after all this time, all this frustration, all this...BOOM! Right hand counter, MISSY and Amber is GOBSMACKED! Heard wobbles, nearly goes down after a perfectly-placed straight right from the brunette. And, now it's MISSY who's all in, firing away at the blonde, looking to...BOOM! Left hook and DOWN GOES AMBER! Heard noses in a Peregrym's feet! Missy quickly to a neutral corner as the referee begins to count. Heard shoves up to hands and knees at six, tries to push to her feet and CRUMPLES BACK DOWN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Missy Peregrym!

AFTER:

Missy triumphant in the post. "Yeah, she can fight," the brunette says with a nod. "I never doubted that. But, the thing is, people have been doubting ME. ME. And that stuff needs to stop right now!"
