MELISSA BENOIST VS GINNY GARDNER

Melissa: 30 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 10-7-0., 10 KO since 2015. Pretty Little Punchers

Ginny: 24 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 11-7-0, 11 KO since 2018, The Dollhouse.

Before: Virginia Gardner has been showing a lot of youthful promise in The Dollhouse’s bantamweight ranks. Now she faces the PLP’s Melissa Benoist, but the younger blonde is confident as she addresses the press ahead of the fight.

“I think of the biggest advantages I have is that Carmen Electra likes to keep her roster busy. In two years I’ve had 18 fights. Sure I didn’t win them all, but I am learning with every bout. I think I am more than ready for someone with four years’ experience like Melissa. Plus I have already beaten the Punchers’ Sasha Pieterse, so I have a good idea of their style. It’s a challenge, but that’s true of every fight I have, but I’m 11-7 so I’ve won a lot of those challenges. I expect to do that this time.”

Melissa Benoist frowning at this, but she forces a smile as she takes the podium: “Youthful enthusiasm certainly is impressive. When you are in the FCBA longer you will realize that it is not always a good thing for a young fighter to wear herself down by being in too many fights too quickly. She’s done well enough, but you put on too much mileage too soon it could effect your long term prospects.”

Ginny Gardner just smiles and shakes her head. She’s not buying the argument. Melissa sees this and shrugs in resignation.

“Well, don’t say no one ever warned you,” Melissa says. “Anyway, I plan on making this a learning experience for Ms. Gardner. She may have had one fight with a Puncher, but we don’t have a stable ‘style’—each of us fight in our own way. I guess some young fighters need to learn that the hard way.”

“Thank you for the warning, I’ll make a note,” says Ginny. “Not that I’ll need it after I give you a ‘learning experience’ of your own.”

“Bring it on, kid,” retorts Melissa.

“Oh, I will, don’t you worry about that,” Ginny snipes back and Melissa scowls in silent reply.

The two meet again in the sandy ring that is that setting for the beach fight. Ginny accompanied by trainer Kristanna Loken enters the ring and removes her ring. In honor of this being a brach fight, Ginny is wear a light blue bikini top with dark blue bottoms. She has her hair in a ponytail and is wearing light blue gloves. Melissa has come to the ring with trainer Nia Peeples. She is in a red bikini top with royal blue bottoms and yellow gloves with red laces. Her hair is in a perky ponytail as wel. Ring instructions are correct, but tense. Fighters soon in their corners and the bell rings…

R1: Melissa Benoist wastes no time in putting heavy pressure on Ginny Gardner. She moves in fast and close, bringing smacking hooks into the younger blondes body. Ginny knocked back on her heels, but gets her jab going and strikes back at Melissa to the breasts and belly. Melissa keeps pushing forward, trying to brace her feet in the sand beneath her and she’s maintaining the steady pressure on Ginny’s body. Ginny finally backing up to gain some breathing room. Melissa trying to stay close, Ginny again using jab to counter and they are now toe to toe in the sand, bringing punches into each other’s sweat coated. Melissa then snaps a surprise right uppercut into Ginny;s chin. Ginny stumbling back, trying to shake it off and get her jab up as Melissa storms at her. Another fierce close in exchange that ends only when the bell rings. Both fighters are keyed up and exchange determined glares before heading for their corners.

R2: Ginny taking care to make sure she’s quick out of her corner and getting her leather into Melissa. Ginny and Melissa swinging around each other, then making sudden moves forward to deliver punching volleys. This round they are going after each other to the head. Ginny landing first of these, shaking Melissa, but the older blonde answering with head shots of her own. Then Melissa tries to come in and push Ginny back with shots to the body, Ginny fighting back, stalling Melissa’s back and then scoring to Melissa’s jaw, Melissa now thee one giving ground and trying ti use jab to slow Ginny up. Hard trading to the breasts at the end of the round leaves both girls breathing hard after the bell. Judges give this one to Ginny Gardner, though it is close.

R3: Both fighters come out hard and fast for this round. Again, Melissa Benoist seems to be trying to power Ginny Gardner back. Ginny resisting this with equal determination. Punches into the body coming in fast and hard with elbows moving in and out like piston rods. Crowd cheers mixed with sound of leather striking sweat drenched flesh. SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! Melissa and Ginny can be seen wincing as the repeated impacts begin take their toll. Then Ginny darts to one side and brings a clouting right into Melissa’s jaw, Melissa’s heads swivels and she spins away, nearly going down as her feet stumble in the sand, but she recovers before Ginny can get on her. Melissa stalls Ginny with quick jabs to the face and then hooks to belly. Ginny steps back, but then comes back in driving rights and lefts into Melissa’s bikini top. Melissa strikes back at Ginny’s juggs and once more a round ends in crowd pleasing breast banging action. Neither fighter liking this and they exchange post-fight heated remarks until referee sternly order them to their corners. Ginny Gardner wins another close, hard fought round.

R4: Melissa seen seething on her stool as Nia Peeples seeks to calm her down and get their to think more coolly. (Ginny Gardner’s seen looking equally unhappy and complaining to trainer Kris Loken about the treatment dished out to her now aching bosoms. Kris also trying to calm her incensed charge down). Bell rings and Ginny shoots out of her corner and heads for Melissa. She quickly goes for Melissa’s juggs, but Melissa sees better openings as she smacks rights and lefts into Ginny’s chin. Ginny goes reeling back on quaking legs as Melissa now follows up with crisp shots to the belly. Ginny doubled up and trying to protect her head which is reducing her ability to counter-punch. Melissa working the sides o Ginny’s head and her flanks as well. Ginny’s side ribs getting swabbed with painful power. Ginny looking cornered as Melissa works to get her into the ropes. Ginny forces herself to stand up to fight against this move, but then has to take more hooks to the belly. Ginny finally trades distance for breathing room to recover and she scrambles away. Melissa is pursuit. Ginny able to stay off the ropes by the by bell, but Melissa wins round wide. Ginny looking shaken as she trudges back to her stool. Melissa smiling for the first time today.

R5: Action resumes with Ginny Gardner looking warier as she and Melissa Benoit circle in the center of the ring. Melissa seems to be taunting the younger blonde with some quick feints to the chest. Ginny scrambles away as Melissa smirks. Ginny then looks annoyed with herself and moves back at Melissa, this time aiming at the older blonde’s head. These shots strike home, but Melissa strikes back with a flurry of hooks to the midsection. Ginny responds in kind. The two now circling as they exchange more shots to the body, but then they go for the head with rights and lefts. Punches land solidly and put shocks through the bodies of the two fighters, but neither willing to back off. Then Melissa comes in and feints to the belly, but her right slips in behind Ginny’s gloves and up into her chin. Ginny’s heads snaps back and she is stumbling backwards, Melissa leaps forward with left to the chin AND DOWN GOES GINNY GARDNER! Ginny lands hard on her back sand lays sprawled out, gloves to her face as she shudders and moans. Melissa trots to the neutral corner as the referee moves in to start the count. Ginny manages to sit up and then gather herself to lurch back to her feet. She breaks the count at “EIGHT!” She seems to regain her senses quickly, but when the referee waves Melissa back in, Ginny is quick to cover up and just ride it out to the bell, Melissa works over Ginny in the flanks, but has to settled for winning the round wide and putting the younger woman on the sand. Ginny not looking at Melissa as she moves to her corner. Melissa with a BIG smile as she goes back to her stool.

R6: Kris Loken now has reassure Ginny. “She got lucky, that’s all,” Kris tells Ginny. “Pull yourself together. Keep steady. Look for opportunities. She thinks she’s got you intimidated. Use that and make your own luck.” Ginny nods, but looks across the ring as Melissa can be seen happily chatting with her corner crew. Her jaw hardens. “I am not beaten yet!”

Bell rings and Melissa comes aggressively forward Ginny. Ginny falls back, timidly punching out “Don’t-hurt-me jabs”. Melissa smiles hungrily and lashes out with sweeping right that looks aimed at taking Ginny’s head off if it connects. Ginny could see it coming and ducked under the punch and then drove a right into the point of Melissa Benoist’s chin. DOWN WENT MELISSA BENOIST! The blow lifted Melissa off her feet and sent her sliding across the sand. She lay on her side until she could push up her upper body and look around woozily. By now Ginny was in the neutral corner and the referee was standing over her relentlessly counting. Melissa struggled to her feet to just beat the count at “NINE!” Melissa could be heard insisting “I am OK! Really I am!” Referee waves Ginny back in. Ginny moves in aggressively as Melissa tries to counterattack. Ginny driving hooks into Melissa’s belly and sending her recoiling back all doubled up, Ginny drives Melissa into the ropes. Melissa trying to fight back with the jab, but then Ginny lands a crunching right to the jaw. Melissa spins around and topples into the ropes as her knees buckle. MELISSA BENOIST IS A HUDDLED HEAP AT THE ROPES! Ginny again to the neutral corner, but this time there is no recovery. Melissa is out cold and the count is a merely formality.

THE WINNER GINNY GARDNER DEFEATS MELISSA BENOIST KO6!

After: Ginny runs to Kristanna Loken and gives her a huge hug. “You were right! You were right! She made a mistake and I nailed her! And here she thought she had me beat, but I beat her! Oh, this feels SO cool!”

Kris leads Ginny over to where she is congratulated by Kathryn Winnick and Bella Thorne.

“Howe more bantams you suppose the Pretty Pathetic Punchers have left? I could get used to eating them real fast!” Ginny says gleefully.

Things pretty grim in the PLP corner as Melissa Benoist is brought back to her stool and revived. She is plainly shocked at her sudden reversal of fortune. Trainer Nia Peeples along with Sasha Pieterse try to comfort her.

“I was winning! I know I was! Then it all went wrong,” Melissa is heard to wail as they leave the ring.

“That’s boxing, It really is,” says Nia Peeples quietly and then they are out of earshot.

Quite a beach battle while it lasted. It was a back and forth affair. Ginny won 2 of 3 close opening rounds, but then Melissa took the 4th and in the 5th put Ginny down. Unfortunately for Melissa Benoist, Ginny Gardner was able to recover quickly and put Melissa herself down in the 6th. Melissa made it up, but was finished off shortly thereafter. A very nice win for the young Dollhouse bantam Ginny Gardner. Getting a steady number of fights as clearly done her career no harm. Meanwhile, Melissa Benoist has to regroup after this setback. Her next fight should tell if this was just a brief setback or something more serious.
