Boxing After Dark

Before: Guest commentator Terry Farrell sums up the comp: “There’s been a lot of great welter match ups in recent weeks and this isn’t one of them.  No, just kidding! Seriously--Estella’s debut has been rumored for months if not years: it’s great to see her finally get the backing she needs to make a go of it. I’ve never seen tape of her,, but I know she’s sparred with Maxim girls in the past--just look at her, word is she hits a ton, she’s very athletic for a big girl, and unlike a lot of welters who come up from lightweight, she’s actually come down from middle so she should be very strong. Kim’s an interesting choice for a debut--sure she’s shot, but I think she’s still one of the more dangerous models out there, always one of the smartest, although Kim’s no walk in the park.” Alexis in teal beach volleyball two piece, hair up, Estella in in tiger print bikini with loincloth motif.

During R1: Alexis shows punch and clutch, running Warren into right hands, then tieing up to smother the receipt, Frustrating tactic prevents younger blonde from finding a rhythm, fight often strays to the ropes for referees breaks.

R2: Warren showing a punishing jab this round, forces Kim to cover up outside, and midway through, Estella extends on a keen right cross that buckles Alexis at the knees. Kim with artful clinches  runs the clock--Estella just sort of gives up and waits for the ref rather than trying to deal with it.

R3: Another shutout Estella Warren. Hard jabs to the shoulder and forehead chase Kim to the ropes--Alexis keeping  her mitts at her eyesores, watching Warren’s booming right and rolling with it to take some of the edge off. Alexis still clinching more than punching, obviously looking to conserve her kegs for the finishing stretch as crowd grows restless.

R4: Kim kicks it up, starts to jab with Warren and model’s more educated stick makes a mockery of Estella’s defense this round. Textbook boxing from Alexis as she shows Warren up midring--touching her with the jab, dropping the right cross, coming back with the hook. Warren never takes a backward step, but she’s getting shiny as Kim does her best scoring this round.

R5: More punch and clutch from Alexis--it’s really starting to get under Estella’s skin as Warren starts to protest--Kim clouts her on the break as Estella fails to protect herself at all times. Alexis with a knack of falling in with her right hand in Warren’s jaw, then wrapping up tight--big girls waltz and stumble into the ropes. Kim also starting to explore Estella’s flat midriff with heavy right hands out of the wrap--Warren takes it all well, but falls behind on the cards after 5.

R6: Alexis unpacks another trick--the feint, showing blitz, backing off, then coming all the way in with a crashing overhand right that puts Warren on her hands and butt on one sweeping flourish. Estella up quick, but eyes are glassy, and that first step in shaky, Alexis in in a long-armed swarm, brushing the wide left hand across Warren’s pouting lips and DRILLING a sharp right hand to the chin--DOWN GOES WARREN! Estella sent crashing to her back at the ropes and there is suspense as she struggles to beat the count, lolling hurt at the ropes as the ref looks her over. Alexis wades on in and gets big, bodying her girl back over the ropes, going to the body and sides with clubbing shots, using her forearms to prop Estella up with. Bruising shove and slug the rest of the way--Warren all chin and legs on defense, soaking up clean shots, but refusing to go down any more in a disastrous sixth.

R7: Credit Warren with heart--she comes out ragged, but determined, and sheds the boxing look she has been showing for a looser-limbed, free-swinging style. Alexis having a lot more trouble working her way in to clinch with Estella moving her hands, bending into shits and egging to her left--Warren’s wildness pats off as Kim takes a few right hands high on the head and looks wary. Midway through, both girls launch right hands but Estella wins the race--Alexis’ legs give way as she nearly takes a knee--she straightens boozily, gloves at her lips and fades t the ropes. Sweet payback for Estella as she walks Kim down and punishes her--big broad sweeps to the waist, clouting right hands to the ear have Alexis wobbly butt at the bell.

R8: Kim trying to keep Estella off her with the jab, but Warren’s coming forward now and looks better the more offensive-minded she becomes. Alexis getting clocked by right hands over her jab, finally stops throwing it sand Warren takes over completely. Kim bounced from one set of ropes to the next, covered up, trying to run, but the younger kegs are eating her up. Down the stretch, Estella measuring with the extended left leaves it on Kim’s chest and hurls HARD right hands against the blonde’s head that sends Alexis stumbling sideways into a corner. Bell sounds to save a wounded Kim Alexis who stares wide-eyed into the distance.

R9: Estella coming on fresh, Alexis fading badly as the older woman either clinches or staggers away while Warren hunts her down. Estella stalking, using her left just to reach for and measure Kim, doing all the punishment with Neanderthal rights, Alexis reading it well, blocking efficiently to save herself, but she can’t pull the trigger on the counter opportunities like she once would have.

R10: Shutout Estella Warren. Kim robs Estella of any chance of a knockout with desperate clinching and shameful running, but Estella stays resolute, often bulling her girl into the ropes and bodying up rough if Alexis won’t punch. Rounds ends with Warren cudgeling a covered-up Kim in the corner--gloves splattering hard against weary shoulders and biceps as Kim turns left and right to soak it up. Comes back a draw--Estella visibly disappointed as Alexis beams with pleasure.

After: Estella wanted the win, but as Terry observes: “Hey--it’s a learning experience. And what Estella should have learned was that she boxes kind of the way apes talk--unnaturally and forced. She should have been brawling right from the start--Kim couldn’t handle it at all. I like that she didn’t quit after  Kim got to her with right hands in the sixth--a lot of young fighters don’t get up from a beating like that and the fact that she did makes Warren dangerous. She wasn’t just in there to be tough--after going down, she actually came out with her best stuff. I wouldn’t take her lightly if I had to fight her tomorrow, not that she’s ready or anything, but you can see she’s got plenty of potential at this weight.”
