BEFORE:

"The only thing stopping me from being at the top of this division," says Anne with a shake of the head, "is the fact that I can't get regular work. A fight a year for over half a decade! Ridiculous! Well. Tonight, I'm going to take out a former champion. Maybe THAT will make my phone ring."

"She's right about one thing," says Gemma. "She's got enough ability to beat girls in this division with regular work. But. She's not beating THIS girl, tonight or EVER."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Somebody To Love' you hear behind us, but that's not Grace Slick singing it, it's the lovely lady coming to ringside, Anne Hathaway!"

McCarthy: "Grace Slick SUCKS anyway!"

Cassie: "Just because she got a COURT ORDER to prevent you from singing..."

McCarthy: "JUST ONE SONG!"

O'Dell: "Annnddddd Anne is into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that cobalt blue number we've seen before. Crowd showing its appreciation for all the work Hathaway's done getting ready for this one..."

McCarthy: "Grace Slick! Who does she think she IS?"

O'Dell: "And, that's 'London Calling' by The Clash you hear hammering through the arena, and here comes 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"

Tess: "Arterton one of the few Front Street members guaranteed a job on the new roster. But, she's also looking for a shot to get those titles back, so, she definitely wants to take care of business tonight."

O'Dell: "Gemma into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that violet number we've seen before and looking plenty good in it. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess favors Gemma. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Hathaway's another tomato can. Arterton."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Unanimous again. Let's see if the ladies are right. Hathaway coming out after Arterton here! Gemma wants to set up at range and box, but Anne having none of it. She's winging away and SHE CATCHES GEMMA WITH ONE! Arterton wobbled and DROPS TO A KNEE!"

Cassie: "WOW! Did not see that coming!"

O'Dell: "Hathaway to a neutral corner with a big smile on her face. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Gemma to her feet at eight. Ref going to give her the mandatory and waive on Anne! Hathaway a girl who's done damage to Front Street before, as Katy Perry can attest, looking to do it again!"

McCarthy: "This is exactly what I predicted a minute ago!"

Tess: "Except you DIDN'T...."

McCarthy: "Shut UP, Walmart!"

O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, as Hathaway takes the fight to a wobbly Gemma. Anne just letting the hands go here. She clearly doesn't think she has anything to lose here, so, she's just going to go after Gemma, And, for one round at least, it's going to work. There's the bell. Hathaway, 10-8."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Hathaway in control early. She's backing Arterton up with flurry after flurry of hard shot. Gemma trying to manage this, slow it down. Arterton, obviously, very physical, but she's also a very good technical fighter, and that's what she was looking to do in this one..."

McCarthy: "How'd that go for her?"

O'Dell: "Anne not exactly unsound here, but it's not like she's playing a lot of defense or has for most of the fight. It's all about taking it to Gemma and getting her out of her comfort zone, and, for the moment at least, it's working. Arterton jabbing, giving ground, while Anne fights lead."

Tess: "Gemma's legs seem to be back right now, so this is a tactical choice, I think."

O'Dell: "Might well be. And, Anne's FINE with it, because she's controlling things with that effective aggression. We down to just fifteen seconds remaining in this round. Hathaway's controlled it throughout. SHARP exchange right there, best of the fight, and there's the bell. Anne. Wide."

Cassie: "And, Hathaway's built a 20-17 lead."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Anne aggressive again early, but Gemma now getting that jab on and enforcing some distance. She wants to get to gunnery range here, and she's doing it for the first time in the fight. Anne having to slow the offensive now, work forward instead of walking forward..."

Cassie: "And, it's making a difference. Hathaway taking punches trying to get to her spots."

O'Dell: "Sure is. Anne's getting there, mind. She's getting off in combination as she has the entire fight, but it's a two-way round this time as Gemma has adjusted to Anne's tactics. Element of surprise has worn off, and we're seeing Gemma getting into a rhythm now."

Tess: "But, Hathaway still holding her own."

O'Dell: "No doubt about it. It's been a two-way round from the opening seconds, and, with just ten seconds to go, it's going to stay that way. Sharp exchange as we near the bell, and both fighters landed good shots in that one. There it is. End of the third. Gemma's on the board."

McCarthy: "But, Hathaway is still up 29-27"

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Gems setting up at gunnery range. Hathaway looking to work to her spots at mid and short distance, but it's not happening now. Arterton's getting rolling, and that's a dangerous thing for her opponent, no matter WHO that opponent is..."

Cassie: "No doubt about it."

O'Dell: "Anne taking more leather in this first minute than she did in the entire first two rounds. GOOD right from Gemma, and that got Hathaway's attention, and there's ANOTHER that backs Anne up a step. Arterton now stepping to, making with the big guns..."

McCarthy: "Typical Dancing Hooker! Stay with what's working!"

O'Dell: "Well, this is working, too. Arterton has Hathaway on the back foot and she's keeping her there, sitting down on some punches, landing some hard shot to both head and body. Anne now defensive, backing and covering, trying to counter here and there, but Gemma's clearly on the lead right to the bell. Arterton. Wide."

Tess: "38-37, Hathaway. Gems has about made up the stagger."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Arterton keeping up the steady pressure now. Hathaway trying to hold canvas, but can't do it. Gems walking her down behind that left jab, making with hard right hands in follow. Anne jabbing back, trying to get some time and space to counter, but finding precious little of it..."

Cassie: "This is why Gemma is the only lightweight with a guaranteed spot on the Front Street roster next year. She's absolutely locked in now, and she's taken over."

O'Dell: "Has, indeed. Arterton continuing to bring heavy fire to bear on her target. Anne not looking at ALL like the girl who started so strongly in this one. Gems has adjusted and she's taking the fight to her fellow brunette and DROPPING HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND!"

Tess: "That might do it..."

O'Dell: "Arterton to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Anne down on her back, staring blankly up at the referee. Six. Seven. It's not going to happen. Hathaway completely out of it! Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO5 in one-punch fashion is 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"

McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Gemma Arterton, and, Gems, not a great start tonight..."

Gemma (shaking her head): "Should have seen that coming, but I didn't. Didn't think she'd try to get physical with me. But. She just went for it, because she didn't have much to lose. My fault for not anticipating that."

Tess: "But, you rode it out and got back into it..."

Gemma (nodding): "Oh, I never had any doubts about that. Once I adjusted, there was only one way this thing was going to end. Exactly the way it did."
