Katherine McNamara vs. Vanessa Hudgens

Young redhead on quite the roll, having taken three of four from Cole, Lavigne, Campbell, and Hale. Get a win tonight, and she's going to find herself right in the middle of the title picture. But, of course, the woman standing in her way is one of the top flyweights in the FCBA, Vanessa Hudgens...not that it seems to worry Kat. "She's top level, no doubt," says the redhead with a smile. "But, I've fought top-level girls before. And BEATEN them."

"Here's what McNamara doesn't understand," says Vanessa with a shake of the head. "I'm not JUST a top level flyweight. I'm THE top flyweight. Big difference. As she's about to find out."

ROUND ONE:

Katherine finds out. Redhead comes out looking to box at range, only, there's no way to do that when she can't FIND 'Nessa. And, she can't. Hudgens is on her bicycle from the opening seconds, bouncing and misbehaving. She's circling, jabbing, keeping McNamara from being able to get to a single spot where she can get off. Instead, 'Nessa ranges the ring, stopping here and there to unleash a nasty flurry of hard accurate stuff, before slipping the rejoinder from the redhead and bouncing away to open canvas. It's absolutely clinical stuff from the brunette, who commands things completely all the way from the opening seconds to the final bell, leaving the redhead with a look of frustration on her face as she stomps back to her corner, having been shut out in the opening stanza to fall behind 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

McNamara settles down. She stops chasing 'Nessa and starts stalking her, working to cut the ring and create exchanges. At times, the redhead can't get that done, and Hudgens is ranging across the canvas snapping jabs and causing all sorts of mischief. But, at other times, Katherine brings her to battle, and, during those moments, it's the redhead who gets the better of things, putting punches together, throwing the brunette onto the defensive, and keeping her there until Vanessa can find a way to slip free and get back to her war of movement. Goes like that the entire round. 'Nessa moments and McNamara moments, and with both fighters getting a fairly equal amount of what they want, there's not much in it. When the bell rings, however, it's the redhead who's gotten a bit more done and evened the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Vanessa adjusts. The Hall of Famer's huge edge in experience on display here. She's seen the tactics the redhead plans to use to cut the ring, and now she counters them, She's giving a little ground now, circling wider, reversing field, fouling up everything McNamara tries to do with constant, smooth, effective movement. But, it's not JUST movement. Sure, she's scoring with the jab as she circles, but Hudgens is also setting herself up for very effective stop and pop situations, where she gets off quickly in combination, then bounces away before Katherine can counter. The round is, in a word, a nightmare for the redhead, who, like in the first, gets very little done while getting taken to both school and the woodshed by the brunette. At the bell, it's not a shutout, but it's close. It's 'Nessa very wide and back in the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Hudgens in command. Katherine unable to solve the puzzle. 'Nessa's doing what she wants, when she wants, and as often as she wants. Cold comfort to the redhead, but, she's not the first fighter the brunette has done this to, which is why 'Nessa is in the Hall of Fa...BOOM! Right hand, HUDGENS and McNamara is HURT! Katherine wobbles and 'Nessa lets the hands go a DROPS HER WITH A LEFT HOOK! McNamara crumples to all fours as the brunette bounces away to a neutral corner. Redhead looking up as the ref counts down on her, pushes to her feet at eight and takes the mandatory. And. ON. COMES. 'NESSA! Brunette quickly batters the redhead back into the ropes with a blizzard of punches and begins calling in artillery strikes. Ref is looking in closely as Katherine hangs on desperately. He's on a hair trigger, but, before he can react, the bell rings. Hudgens fairly BOUNCES back to her corner as an unsteady Katherine makes her way back to hers. It's 10-8 'Nessa, and she's now built a 39-36 lead.

ROUND FIVE:

'Nessa after McNamara, who immediately goes to the ropes and forms a tight guard. Siege begins. Hudgens winging away and the redhead playing defense, rolling with, blocking, countering...and doing it all very well. This is great Spears pocket stuff, an interesting wrinkle from the redhead who, whether out of necessity or not, is holding her own very well as the brunette tries to effect a clean up. Instead, the Hall of Famer's burning a ton of energy throwing shots that are mostly being caught on the redhead's arms or gloves or slipped, while McNamara's countering effectively, even landing some solid shots that snap the brunette's head back. 'Nessa's uncowed, however, continuing the attack right to the bell. But, when it rings, it's the redhead who's taken the points, albeit narrowly, and cut the brunette's lead to 48-46.

ROUND SIX:

McNamara back into the pocket, and 'Nessa back to the siege. Brunette determined to finish off the redhead, but, Katherine again showing excellent defensive skills, blocking, slipping, rolling with, and filling every single opening with a sharp counter punch. Again, it's McNamara who's getting the better of things on these terms, but 'Nessa continues pressing the iss...BOOM! Right hand counter, KATHERINE! And Vanessa is HURT! Hudgens wobbles and is DROPPED by a vicious four-punch flurry from the redhead! Vanessa wide eyed on her back as Katherine stomps to a neutral corner. Referee counting down. Looks to be over. But. No. Hudgens to her belly at six. To all fours at eight. To her feet at nine. She takes the mandatory, and the ref thinks about it but waives on McNamara! Katherine charging out of the corner and driving all before her, forcing the Hall of Famer to the cables and ROCKING her with big punches to the head. 'Nessa wobbled again and again, desperately hanging on and THE REF STEPS IN! He bundles Hudgens to safety and it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Katherine McNamara!

AFTER:

K-Mac all "I told you so" in the post fight. "This is what I've been saying since this was signed," says the redhead with a smile. "She's very good. Everyone knows that. She's in the Hall of Fame, after all. But. I've FOUGHT very good and I've BEATEN very good. Just like I beat Vanessa. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Or. It should. Because, I'm coming for it."
