Missy Peregrym vs. Kaley Cuoco

BEFORE:

Talk about "No Hype Needed". This one doesn't just match two Hall of Famers. It matches two four-time champions, both of whom have held the bantamweight title twice each and the lightweight title twice each. And, as you might imagine, blonde and brunette have a history, with both having wins over the other and several of their fights falling into the "classic" category. And, as you also might imagine, both are eager to step in with the other again.

"I'll admit," says Missy with a smile, "Kaley's always brought out the best in me. And, that's NOT something a girl wants to do."

"She's a rival, for sure," says Kaley with a nod. "There's plenty of respect there, but, when we get in the ring, that all stops. And, tonight, so will Missy."

ROUND ONE:

Ladies know one another well, but that doesn't stop the first from being recon central. Both blonde and brunette are veterans, and they both know the other has a good fight plan. So, the idea in this stanza is to suss out some of that and decide how to attack said fight plan. Result is a lot of boxing at range, something at which both fighters are plenty good. Missy still a superb athlete, spends a lot of time in motion, not dancing or circling, but angling and trying to create angles. Kaley, though, is plenty athletic herself and is able to work her own feet to create the kind of geometry she wants in spots. It's good, tactical, technical stuff from the opening seconds to the final bell. And, when that bell rings, there's not a lot in it. But, Cuoco's done just enough to take the round and the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

A little more recon to start things, and then we settle into a pattern. Missy moving, boxing, Kaley moving with, bouncing forward for quick flurries. It's good stuff from both blonde and brunette, who are able to both score well and play excellent defense. There's plenty of head, hand, and foot movement, and the technical stuff is right on, which you'd expect from two veteran fighters as decorated as these two are. For the second round in a row, there's not a lot in it, as both fighters are getting their offense going and neither is able to take any sort of control or create much space in the cards. The former champions work hard and effectively right to the final bell, and, when it rings, it's still very tight, but, for the second round in a row, Kaley's claimed the points to lead 20-18.

ROUND THREE:

Same again in the third. Missy moving, boxing, Kaley moving with, pouncing forward for quick, hard flurries and HURTING MISSY WITH A RIGHT HAND! Peregrym staggered with a BLISTERING right and now Cuoco is all in! Kaley bringing the heavy guns to bear, backing up her rival, trapping her on the cables, and banging way. Peregrym in serious trouble in the tight earmuff. She's putting the body on sale, but Kaley isn't buying much. Instead, she's trying to get the brunette out of there right now and, with the ref looking in closely, she's exactly one punch away from doing that. Somehow, however, Missy manages to avoid that punch. She hangs on desperately right to the bell. There's no doubt about the round when it ends. It's Cuoco and wide, but Missy has survived to fight another day, though she's now trailing 30-27.

ROUND FOUR:

Kaley pressing for the finish. She's stepping to Missy, backing her up with hard shot. Peregrym engaged in a fighting retreat, but, it's definitely a retreat. Until it's not. BOOM! Right hand counter, Missy and KALEY IS HURT! Peregrym gets the feet set and lands a keyhole right to the chin that badly shakes Cuoco and now it's the brunette who's all in, driving Kaley back to the ropes and paying her back for the punishment the blonde dished out in the third. Cuoco hanging on grimly, putting her own body on sale, but, like the blonde in the previous stanza, Missy not buying much. Instead, she's head hunting, looking to put an end to the proceedings as the ref waits on a hair trigger. Bu, like Peregrym in the third, Kaley is able to ride out the storm to the bell. Peregrym gets the points wide, but Cuoco still leads 39-37.

ROUND FIVE:

Missy in command. Brunette's got the blonde, who's still on balky legs, in retreat and she's keeping her there. Peregrym awesome to behold. If you need a video to show someone what a Hall of Fame fighter looks like, you can use this round, as the brunette puts it all together perfectly. She's busy with the hands and feet, setting up punches perfectly, using the jab to move Cuoco's head back from her guard and then buzzing rights in behind it with perfect timing. Kaley's wobbled three times, but she's able to stay on her feet and, mostly, stay off the ropes. Only in the final 45 seconds does the blonde wash up against the cables, and, when that happens, Peregrym begins calling in artillery strikes. Again, the ref is looking closely, but, again, Kaley rides it out to the bell. It's Missy again, this time by shutout, but the blonde still leads 48-47 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Peregrym walking down Cuoco. Kaley's legs still not back as Peregrym keeps pouring on the pressure. Blonde trying to clinch, doing anything she can to slow down the Canadian, but Missy shoving off, punching free, continuing to fire shell at a listing opponent. BOOM! Right hook, MISSY and Kaley is GOBSMACKED! Guard actually drops and Peregrym lands a quick left hook to the chin and DOWN GOES CUOCO! Kaley spilled to her left side. Missy quickly to a neutral corner as the ref counts down on Kaley. Cuoco rolls to her back, staring up at the ref, but, as the numbers rise it's clear that the lights may be on but nobody's home! It's OVER! Kaley is still on her back when the count passes her by and it's OVER and your winner by KO6 is Missy Peregrym!

AFTER:

Missy all smiles, though she clearly looks as if she's been in a fight. "It's always tough with her," the Hall of Famer says with a nod. "She's one of the best of her generation. But, tonight, she was in with the VERY best of her generation. And, that's why she ended up on her back."
