Zendaya Coleman vs Laura Harrier

By: Celebff / Results: Lookout!

Zendaya Coleman
25 / 5’10” / 6-9 / Holloway Boxing

Laura Harrier
31 / 5’9” / 2-1 / Free Punchers

Pre-Fight:

Zendaya, when asked about fighting with the uncertain status of her stable: “I don’t think about it. There’s been some talk about Holloway, but I’m here to fight this fight right here. You know, my career hasn’t started off how I’d have liked it. Tonight’s a chance to change the narrative going into the new year, though. And I love Laura, but she’s standing in my way to make a statement. So she’s gotta go down.”

Larua, when asked about fighting a friend and former co-star, “You know, it’s no different from any other opponent. At the end of the day I’m here for me and what’s best for me is to go out and win this fight. So I have no problem putting Zendaya on the canvas if she’s in the other corner. No problem whatsoever.”

R1:

Zendaya leaves her corner in a bright neon green get-up with black trim, Laura opting for black gloves and shorts. The two tap gloves after the bell rings and settle into their fight stances.

Laura wastes no time going after her former Spider-Man co-star. She hits a few early jabs and tries to walk Zendaya back. But Coleman is having none of it. She counters with a quick combo of her own.

The two fighters circle each other, landing a flurry of blows and then blocking and dodging. A lot of good movement from the lightweights. Zendaya hands a cross that snaps Laura’s head to the side. But just as she comes in to try to gain some ground, Laura counters with a one-two that dazes Zendaya.

Coleman recovers quickly however and the two trade some more blows as the bell rings. Nobody with a clear advantage at the end of round one.

10-10.

R2:

Another round and as the minutes tick on nobody can seem to get a clear advantage. They’re both landing punches, missing others, and getting bruised up in return. Zenday’s reach is minimal, but she does look to be a little more fluid. Laura’s blows landing with a bit more power, though.

As the second round ticks on, eventually Laura is able to land a nice right hook that gives her an opening. As Zendaya retreats, Laura gets aggressive and lands a couple of jabs and then swiftly back-steps and dodges a right. She comes back with a left cross that snaps Zendaya’s head to the side and is enough to give her the round as the bell rings.

Harrier up 20-19

R3:

Laura finding a real rhythm now. Zendaya feels the power of her blows and doubles over a bit after a right uppercut to her abs. This gives Laura an opening and she sneaks an uppercut that drops Zendaya’s guard. Laura follows up with a left hook that takes Coleman to the ropes.

Laura firing on all cylinders now. She’s landing combos against a flabbergasted Zendaya, who is just trying to keep up.

Harrier misses on a right though and Zendaya uses that as a chance to fire back a one-two combo and slip off of the ropes. Laura clearly frustrated and Zendaya start sto find a bit of a rhythm of her own, using her long reach to land some head-snapping jabs.

It’s not enough though to take the round as it comes to a close.

Harrier up 30-28.

R4:

Zendaya comes out really aggressive to start the round and it seemingly pays dividends. Laura taken off guard as she’s met with a few furious combos. Forced to keep her guard up, Zendaya bruises up Laura’s biceps and forearms with her gloves. She even sneaks in a right hook that makes Laura’s jaw drop, almost losing her mouthpiece.

Zendaya looking more confident as the round goes on. Laura though gets her bearings and starts to fire off some nice counter-punches and works her way back to the middle of the ring.

The bell rings, giving Zendaya her first round of the fight.

Harrier up 39-38.

R5:

Both fighters come out firing. Neither one of them backs down. Laura lands a brutal right hand that looks like it could knock Zendaya down. But the Holloway girl stays up and mixes two left-handed uppercuts to the ribs into her rotation.

Laura leaning to the side and it gives Zendaya a window. She hits her with a right hand that nearly drops Harrier. Laura backs off. On her heels. Zendaya coming after her. A right. A left. Harrier getting pounded now. She’s on the ropes. Zendaya charges forward.

An uppercut from Harrier! And now Zendaya is hurt. She’s on her heels. A right connects. Then another right. Then another. Coleman walked all the way back across the ring and now she’s on the ropes.

The bell rings after a flurry of fireworks from both boxers, making the round too close to call.

Harrier still up 49-48.

R6:

The two fighters once again come out aggressive, but an early right hook nails Laura and she stumbles to her side. Zendaya on the hunt, she sinks two lefts into the body again and once more Laura is doubled over. Just like the previous round, Zendaya slams an overhand right into Laura’s cheek.

This time it’s enough to put Harrier on the canvas.

She flops down and her mouthpiece slips out of her mouth. She’s gasping for air. Eyes closed. She’s still breathing but doesn’t make a move as the ref counts her out.

WINNER VIA ROUND 6 KO: ZENDAYA COLEMAN

Post-Fight:

Zendaya shows obvious concern for Laura, who eventually begins to stir. She doesn’t celebrate as she watches her opponent start to get up and clear the cobwebs. Laura walked over to her corner and after she can stand on her own power, she sees Zendaya and goes over to give her a huge hug. Zendaya taps Laura on the top of the head and they exchange words.

Zendaya, when asked if she was concerned for Laura, “I definitely was. I thought she was seriously hurt. I mean, I hit her with everything I had. When she didn’t move… it was scary. But she was okay and she told me that she wasn’t happy to lose but she was happy I won. She also said she wanted another shot at me… so we’ll have to set that one up soon!”

Laura, when asked if losing two straight fights against lightweights is a concern, “What do you want me to say to that? No, yeah I’m thrilled that my only two wins are against bantams. Come on, what kind of question is that?”
