BEFORE:

"Well," says Arlenis with a lovely smile, "I've heard all ABOUT models getting chances in the FCBA, and I wondered when my time would come. It's finally here. And, I can't wait!"

"This girl is rangy and athletic," says Gemma. "She's got plenty of tools. But. Not enough to win tonight."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Hot Stuff' by Donna Summer, and here comes a girl that is DEFINITELY hot stuff, Dominican beauty Arlenis Sosa!"

McCarthy: "You know, maybe I should start using that as MY ring music. I mean, there's NO hotter stuff on the PLANET than J-Mac, especially not TENNIS here..."

O'Dell: "Hang in there, Jenny. This is the last fight. Then, we can adjourn to the bar and get BLIND DRUNK..."

Cassie: "And, THEN you might think Mac is hotter than Arlenis. Since. You know. You'll be BLIND."

McCarthy: "You LITTLE..."

Tess: "Now, calm down, Mac..."

O'Dell: "That's MY line! Now, let's keep our eyes on the ring, where Arlenis is helped off with the robe to reveal a parakeet green bikini and a body that has the crowd showing a TON of appreciation..."

McCarthy: "Philly. Low standards."

O'Dell: "Aaaannndddd, that's 'London Calling' you hear behind us, and that can only mean that 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton is on her way to the ring."

Tess: "And, with lightweight being a VERY competitive division at Front Street, Gemma doesn't want to slip up tonight."

O'Dell: "All business as she climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. The former Unified Lightweight Champion is wearing that violet bikini we've seen before. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Gemma. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Tetanus has NO FCBA wins! Arterton!"

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. Sosa making with that reach early, and no surprise there. Supermodel is plenty rangy and she's going to want to use that to create space. Does not want to bang with Gemma, with the kind of power the British beauty has. Arterton, on the other hand, looking to angle forward..."

Cassie: "RIGHT HAND, ARLENIS!"

O'Dell: "And Arterton is DROPPED TO HER KNEES! Sosa catches Gemma flush and this place is going NUTS. Arlenis to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Gemma getting to her feet at seven, taking the mandatory. Ref waives on Sosa and she's buzz sawing at a wobbly Arterton..."

McCarthy: "Who knew Artis had it in her?"

O'Dell: "Sosa backs Arterton into the ropes and lets her HAVE it. Supermodel one punch away from pulling a MAJOR upset and she KNOWS it. She's tossing everything she's got at the former lightweight champ trying to turn out the lights...but she can't get it done. There's the bell. HUGE first for Sosa..."

Tess: "And, she leads 10-8."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second begins with Arlenis in control. Arterton still clearly buzzed from the last round and the younger woman taking full advantage. She's winging away with both hands, backing Gemma up, battering her. And, to her credit, Sosa not getting sloppy here, Mac, staying sound..."

McCarthy: "Well, Arthur is 29. She's never been in an FCBA fight, but, obviously, she's fought at lower levels..."

O'Dell: "True, but, first time in the bigs, it's easy to get overly excited in a situation like this. She's not doing it, though. She's aggressive, but effectively so, banging away at Gemma and landing a high percentage of shot. Arterton playing defense, jabbing back here and there, but mostly getting a thumping."

Tess: "Playing for time. Has to feel confident that if she can shake this, she can win the fight."

O'Dell: "You'd think she would, but, she's about to fall into a big hole. Fifteen seconds left in this round, and it's been ALL Arlenis. Arterton on the ropes literally and figuratively as the clock ticks down. GOOD right by Sosa, and there's the bell. It's a shutout for the supermodel, ladies."

Cassie: "And, Sosa's now up 20-17."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Sosa maintaining control as we start the third. Arterton looking a little steadier now, but still clearly not all the way back from that first round knockdown, and, Mac, got to think that it's not just the knockdown now but the damage Arlenis has been able to pile up afterward that's playing..."

McCarthy: "No doubt about it. Arturo's kept coming and kept landing hard shot, and that's been the key."

O'Dell: "Gemma continuing to give ground as Sosa keeps coming forward. Again, nothing sloppy from the tyro, who's got to be opening a TON of eyes right now. GOOD combination from Sosa forces Arterton to cover up. Gemma again backed to the ropes. She gets the guard up now..."

Cassie: "Arlenis doing exactly what she should be. She's continuing to be aggressive in an effort to get the stoppage."

O'Dell: "And, she's continuing to be effective. Sosa banging away as Gems fights out of the pocket now. Arterton landing a good shot here and there, but Arlenis piling up point after point as the final seconds of the third slip away. SHARP exchange right there, best one of the fight so far, and there's the bell. Sosa. Wide."

Tess: "And, Arlenis has a HUGE 30-26 lead after three."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth begins the same way the last two have. Sosa coming forward, but now Gemma holding her ground and banging back and we've got a FIREFIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING! Both brunettes letting the hands go and there's a BIG right from Gemma and Arlenis lands one of her own!"

Tess: "Crowd on its feet, Jenny..."

O'Dell: "Indeed it is, because they are HOT TOSSING right now! Sosa a BOOMING right and Arterton lands a BLISTERING one of HER own! Sosa took a step back and Gems forward to continue the onslaught. ARLENIS with a straight right that backs up GEMS and now SOSA stepping in..."

Cassie: "THIS isn't going to go on much longer..."

O'Dell: "Not in this round, anyway, because we're down under thirty seconds and a VICIOUS exchange there! Both fighters landed a big power shot and NOBODY stepping back. ANOTHER huge trade sends sweat flying and there's the bell! What a round and a miracle both ladies are on their feet after it! Close. Arterton."

McCarthy: "But, Artichoke still ahead 39-36."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Change of tactics for Sosa as we start the fifth. Now, the taller brunette is setting up at range behind the jab again like she did in the first. She's going to use her reach and force Gemma to angle forward. This isn't a bad idea, Mac, considering she's built herself a nice lead to this point."

McCarthy: "Correct. Arlington is up three and if she can grab a couple of more rounds boxing, she can win this thing without a stoppage."

O'Dell: "And, that may well be the thinking right now. Supermodel working that long left jab, dropping right hands off it. Arterton angling, getting to spots here and there and getting off in combination, but it's Arlenis who's getting most of the work done in this frame, despite the British beauty's best efforts."

Tess: "Take a four-point lead into the second half and Sosa's going to be feeling pretty good."

O'Dell: "And, she's about ten seconds from doing that. Arlenis still working that left as the final seconds come off the clock. Gems a good combination there, but that's the bell and that ends the first half of this fight. No question that the fifth is Sosa's round, and Arterton is in a big hole."

Cassie: "49-45. She's going to need something big."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Second half starts with Arlenis wanting to box at range. Gems now looking to penetrate. She's working forward in a high guard, getting inside, working some body. Might be late in the day to make an investment there, but the Front Streeter is, perhaps, too far behind to try and grab this on the cards..."

Cassie: "No doubt about it, Jenny. She's needs to get physical."

O'Dell: "And, that's just what she's doing in there, working over Sosa's ribs and midsection. Arlenis tying up, but Gemma shoving off and landing more solid shot to the body. Again, Sosa ties up, and, this time, she gets the break from the referee. Sosa moving now, circling, giving some ground..."

Tess: "Not a bad idea. Doesn't want to be in tight with Arterton, especially not with this lead."

O'Dell: "Gems cutting, closing, going back to the body. Sosa ties up. Gemma levers her with the shoulder, hooks the midsection. Sosa slips away to open canvas. Arlenis looking to leg and jab out the round, and she's going to get that done. There's the bell. Sixth is in the books. Gemma close."

McCarthy: "But, Artisan still leads 58-55."

ROUND SEVEN:

O'Dell: "Gems back to work in the seventh. She's determined to get physical with Sosa now. Arlenis trying to create space with the feet and the jab, but having major problems doing it. Veteran Arterton knows how to cut a ring and how to get past defenses, and she's using that knowledge right now..."

McCarthy: "And, that's a problem for Archibald..."

O'Dell: "Gems digging body. Again, probably too late to win the fight via the frame, but she's definitely scoring points and piling up hurt. Sosa again tying up. Gems shoves off and lands a SOLID right hand! That got Arlenis' attention. Sosa gives ground, covers up as Arterton lets the hands go!"

Cassie: "Sosa's not hurt, Jenny, but she's spooked."

O'Dell: "No doubt about it, and that kind of power will DO that to you. Arterton a GOOD right hook that backed Sosa up again. Arlenis ties up, hangs on. Referee going to get in there and break them. Sosa on the move, Gems tracks her down, goes back to work. But there's the bell. Arterton and wide in the seventh."

Tess: "And, Gems is working back in this. Still down, though, 67-65."

ROUND EIGHT:

O'Dell: "Arterton remaining in control as we start the eighth. Sosa still working hard to get some space here, but she can't get it done. Gems working through her defenses, then working her over inside. And, it's not like this girl can't punch for respect, Mac, because she's already gotten a knockdown..."

McCarthy: "Yes, but Agamemnon's knockdown seems like a long time ago now..."

O'Dell: "And, these rounds have to seem like forever to Sosa, as she keeps getting that long, lovely body tenderized on the inside. Gems working some upstairs, and landing some good shot, but, it's mostly body work and it's been very, very effective. I'm, frankly, surprised this girl isn't bunching up yet."

Tess: "That may come, because she's definitely taking a thumping."

O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in the eight. Gemma a GOOD combination to the head that forces Arlenis to cover up. Sosa ties up now, hangs on, gets the referee to come and break. And, the younger woman on the move, jabbing, going to run out the clock in the eighth. But, it's Gemma wide."

Cassie: "And, it's a one-point fight. Sosa 76-75 with two to go."

ROUND NINE:

O'Dell: "Gemma right back in Sosa's grill to start the ninth. She's bringing the punishment to that body as Arlenis tries to tie up in there. Sosa gets the break from the referee and gets moving. She's circling, jabbing, trying to keep the former champion at bay. Gemma forward, thumps the midsection..."

McCarthy: "Algernon needs to grab one of these two rounds. If she can do that..."

O'Dell: "Arterton cuts the ring, closes, works some more body. Arlenis tying up. Gemma leveraging with that shoulder, opening the supermodel up to more body work. Sosa trying to tie up and SHE'S DROPPED! Oh, what a right uppercut by Arterton and DOWN GOES ARLENIS!"

Cassie: "Caught her dropping that head!"

O'Dell: "Did, indeed, and Gemma found the button with that uppie! Arterton to a neutral corner. Sosa down on her back staring up at the referee. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Arlenis trying to sit up at seven, but she can't do it! Nine! TEN! It's OVER! That quickly, it's OVER! And your winner by KO9 is 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"

Tess: "Still going to go down as a good performance by Sosa, but, a nice comeback by Gems."

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Gemma Arterton, and, Gems, you've had better starts..."Gemma (nodding): "All credit to her for that. She caught me a good one and she didn't back off when she did. I knew I'd be OK once I got the legs back, but, she did some damage before that."

Tess: "Big comeback for you, though..."

Gemma: "Definitely was. Anyone can get in a hole like that. Anyone can NOT dig out of it."
