Alexis Ren vs Missy Peregrym (Lightweight Title)

Alexis:
(23, 5’8, 38:9 FCBA, VIXENs)

Missy:
(38, 5’7, 63:33:2 FCBA, Lookout! Boxing)

BEFORE:
Alexis Ren’s second title defense tonight and she couldn’t have picked a more dangerous opponent in Missy Peregrym, a former two-time Bantamweight AND Lightweight champion, whose illustrious career spans more than a decade of putting her opponents down in the dust. No wonder Missy looks confident from her place at the press table, drawing back a strand of brown hair with a finger as she addresses the reporters’ questions:

“Look, even after everything I’ve done in the ring, people still see me as the underdog tonight. I want to note that this will be my 99th fight of my career, and I have no plans to make history soon enough with a freakin’ losing streak. Instead, I’m geared up to enter the next chapter of my boxing career much like what my teammate, Evageline, has done, by taking the Lightweight belt from Ren and proving why I’m still very much in my prime.”

“Keep dreaming’, grandma,” Ren snorts from the other end of the table, flipping her own blonde locks back and hoisting her title belt a little higher over her shoulder. “You’re nothing but a washed up has-been, and the only reason I agreed to fight you tonight was to prove that you’re NEVER gonna be a champion again. EVER. Beating your ass in your 99th fight is gonna be the cherry on the top of your stale-ass cake.”

Strong words from either camp and the number of ring officials supervising the official staredown is more than normal as both fighters face each other down at the podium: Alexis smirking wide, chewing bubble gum even as she positions a fist close to Missy’s chin, whilst the calm and collected Missy holds her ground, doesn’t say a word in reply. A one-inch height advantage from Ren’s corner isn’t going to help much, and much has already been said about Missy’s knockout power packed within that lean frame of hers.

Fight night rolls round and both ladies are in the ring, making final preparations in their corners: Alexis pacing back and forth, ready to let herself loose. The champ’s wearing an electric-blue bikini top and bottom, waving white gloves to the crowd as her name’s announced. Missy going for a conservative white sports bra and grey gym shorts, with red gloves on either hand. Referee waves his hand and HERE we go with ten rounds of Lightweight action! This here’s for the Unified Lightweight championship!

ROUND 1:
As predicted, Alexis bounds out of her corner and immediately goes on the offensive, hounding Missy’s head with jabs galore, hoping to start the match strong. Ren traditionally seen as the underdog by almost every pundit we’ve heard from thus far, but in recent days, proven she belongs in the champion’s seat with wins over Winstead, Jenner and Swift. Missy’s not fighting back as strongly this early, taking hard knocks to her face as a result of Ren’s over-brewing energy as the Vixen continues to goad her opponent on. Round ends firmly in the champ’s corner as a result, with Alexis already celebrating with a wide grin on her way back to corner, her braided blonde hair flashing and swishing out behind like a peacock’s tail feather. But the night’s still young, folks.

ROUND 2:
Missy shows off some of that stopping power by disrupting Ren’s attack multiple times , taking jabs before letting the occasional right cross riiip straight into Ren’s arms, and occasionally scoring lucky on tummy. Each time this happens, Ren’s stopped clean in her tracks, screeching to a halt even as she throws her arms up or downwards to block. That’s what makes Missy such a dangerous opponent, the Lookout starlet relying on choice attacks that actually land, instead of Ren’s haphazard approach. Ren growls out loud when she takes another grazing punch to her chin late in the round, before Missy gets bold and steps in, pops another fist into her belly to round off the slightly better round in her favour.

ROUND 3:
Ren, having none of that fighting back though, gnashes her teeth as she throws herself further into the fight. If some aggression ain’t gonna do the job, why not throw some crazy brawlin’ into the mix? It works for a moment, Ren’s overwhelming rush pushing Missy back a couple of times, the blonde’s punches fired in weird arcs around and towards the head before Ren dips low and spears the belly, with Missy having a hard time keeping track of where the next attack is about to come from. Peregrym’s back almost touches the ropes as a result, but she manages to survive Ren’s onslaught by keeping her guard firmly locked over her face throughout, occasionally tagging the enraged champ back with sudden jabs shoved into her face.

ROUND 4:
Back and forth we go as Peregrym decides to SHOCK Ren good and early with a lunging right cross delivered straight to her face, forcing Ren’s flurry to go up in the air, and in all directions. Ren lets out a grunt as she’s staggered in the opening seconds, lets out another yelp as Missy goes to work on her chest and body with follow-up strikes, pushing her backwards on the defensive. Peregrym working hard for every bit of ground, mixing up her attacks as she tries a little bit of crazy herself! Ren grunts and growls with frustration, blocks high but gets socked to the side instead, lowering her arms only to get bashed across the face with another swipe of leather. Ladies end up in a clinch towards the end of the round, signalling bad news for the champ, who has to wrap up with Peregrym in order to save herself from going down. Referee separates the girls at the bell, and a proud Missy shoves Ren off with distaste before raising a victorious arm on her way back to her corner. Not so hot stuff now, eh? Missy seems to shoot Ren a look of contempt as the Vixen staggers back to her corner whilst clutching her side.

ROUND 5:
More targeted aggression from Peregrym, who’s putting on a textbook display of how to dismantle an opponent! Alexis back on the receiving end of a steady stream of jabs that end in a surprise hook or two to her arms, opting to stay far and out of reach for the last minute and wracking her brains as to how to break Missy’s guard. Peregrym has to work a little harder to land punches on the slippery blonde, but it’s no trouble for someone who has already won the round on aggregate. Ren manages to land a couple of fast flurries to Missy’s face in the final seconds, but gets scared off by a lunging swipe from the challenger, and the round ends in neither girl’s favour overall, though we think Missy’s performance is still championship-worthy!

ROUND 6:
Ren on the receiving end of a pounding for the third round running, spelling grim tidings indeed for the supposedly “dominant” champion. Both girls engage in a wild free-for-all in the first minute, sticking as much leather into each other as womanly possible to rack up those points. Another fast exchange of hands as both women hope to score the first knockdown of the evening, but it’s Ren who manages to slip away first, unable to face the onslaught of Missy’s power as the hooks start ringin’ into the side of her head. Ren just can’t compete with her opponent’s strength within close quarters, turns tail and runs for the remainder of the round, and if nothing else changes, this last quarter of the fight is going to be one short affair indeed, and an even shorter title reign for the champ.

ROUND 7:
Missy with a final push forward over the finish line, hoping to put Ren away before this fight drags out over another three rounds. Ren’s strategy however is starting to take shape here: she knows the older fighter won’t be able to step on the accelerator for too much longer, and that would explain her frantic leaps out of the way and return jabs from afar: Ren’s trying to keep Missy moving her tank drained, all for an eventual comeback. Missy’s playing into her hands, scoring with the occasional hard knock to the middle of the arms or a straight cross sunk into the tummy, but ultimately fails in her objective to knock Ren down. Alexis smugly goading the tired challenger on in the final seconds of the round, dancing about and peppering her face with strikes from afar, to FINALLY eke out a round for herself after all those prior disappointments.

ROUND 8:
That’s it - Missy’s floundering a little now, all that energy wasted earlier as she barely takes three steps out of her corner when the champion’s already on top of her, Ren landing blows to her arms and head and then taking pokes at her body when her guard is lowered, pushing her back. Missy’s weathering the abuse - perhaps all she needs to do is hang on for a few more minutes and take the belt via unanimous decision, but Ren ain’t about to make that outcome easy, the champ realising she needs to jump in hard and fast now in order to make up for lost time. Ren hammers Missy with another jumpin left/right combo, sinking more shots into Missy’s body when her arms are raised too high, then takes aim at her chin, hoping to strike gold behind those arms. Peregrym’s left holding onto the top rope at the bell, looking ragged and breathing hard. But Ren’s no better, having been battered left and right these past few rounds, and now seeing only a little more success from her fervent offense.

ROUND 9:
Peregrym lets out another grunt, covering her head up as Alexis blitzes inwards at the opening bell, but manages to send a hook into Ren’s dazzled face outta nowhere! UGHH The champ looks wide-eyed and confused for a moment, as her face registers the impact of that hook, but Peregrym stalls a little too long to follow-up her attack, which allows Ren to swerve backwards to avoid the second attack, Missy’s late swing giving Ren the perfect position to step in and SNAP her head up into the air! Missy’s legs waver in place from that uppercut to the chin, her arms flailing even as Ren wades in and POPS another one, two, three hands into the nose and lips before a BLAST across the face SENDS THE CHALLENGER DOWN! Missy’s back hits the ground from that magical number, and it’s a clean KNOCKDOWN from Ren!

The stadium goes wild as Ren hovers for a moment above her foe, clutching onto the top rope and shouting down insults, even as the referee hurries her to the neutral corner. That still doesn’t change the fact that Missy’s been left sprawled out on canvas, her eyes squeezed shut and her arms splayed above her head… She’s barely moving as it is, and the referee hits the count of 10 and waves the fight off! It’s all over!

Official Decision: Alexis Ren defeats Missy Peregrym via KO9! Alexis Ren is STILL the Unified Lightweight champion!

AFTER:
Ren lets out a roar as the final bell rings out rapidly - she clabours onto the middle turnbuckle, raising both hands to the crowd, towards both her adoring supporters and snark naysayers, especially those who once told her she’d never be champion.

Stark irony as those were Ren’s words to Missy, who’s left heartbroken in her corner. She climbs slowly to her feet but has to be supported all the way back to her stool. The challenger definitely showed plenty of promise tonight, mounting an effective offense early on but was ultimately defeated by her own physical limitations.

Ren waltzing over to gloat minutes later, shooing off the medics and Missy’s fight team, taking time to pose over the spent girl with two fistfuls of dark brown hair pulled back to meet Missy eye-to-eye. Ren’s bullying tummy saunters way too close to Missy’s trapped lips in her corner, with the Vixen saddling in and using her body to pin her former opponent down in the most uncomfortable position imaginable. But Ren’s content with a simple show of dominance, patting Missy’s defiant cheek before shoving her off and letting the challenger wallow in her own defeat for the rest of the evening.
