BEFORE:
It’s our first match of the first Doll Ball of 2019, and BOY do we start things off with a doozy. We have none other than Jessica Chastain facing off against Latin Union’s Lea Seydoux, in what’s surely to be a contest of wits amongst two lovely mature ladies.

Though a former (BBU) Bantamweight champion in her own right, Lea having faced a tough 2018, with a mixed bag of results in terms of opponents faced. All eyes will be on her this year as she faces off against another potential star-boxer in the making tonight. Chastain brushing off her title aspirations for now, however, when reporters ask her backstage if this was her intention in the first place.

"I know what you guys are thinking. ‘This fight is risky for her. What is she thinking??’ And you're right. It is. Lea is a very tough opponent. She's only 33, has two inches on me, and she's beaten women like Megan Fox and Nina Dobrev, one of whom is a former champion and one is our current champion. Yes, you bet I’m taking a huge risk here! Carmen didn't want this fight happening, I would have you know.” The redhead laughs. “BUT I insisted. Katheryn has been proving people wrong throughout 2018 and I wanted to get in on that party in 2019! I'm 7-1 so far - pretty good, right? Way better than I expected for my first year, that's for sure. I'm allowing myself to take it up a notch and tonight is the beginning of that. I feel like I'm ready for Lea, and hopefully you guys will be convinced by the end of tonight as well!"

Lea with that deadly smile on her face that has made her so famous in movies like Spectre and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, now setting her opponent with that similar look of disdain as she speaks in heavily-accented English.

“Chastain has had what? 7, 8 fights so far? I have had five times that many in my career. Carmen knew what she was saying when she advised you not take this one Jessica. I fully intend to win tonight - definitely against a much older, smaller American woman, whom I don’t see as too much of a threat to be honest. I liked Jessica’s movies, she’s one of the best actresses around. But that isn’t going to stop me from punching her lights out.” Lea ends with a chuckle.

Fighting words exchanged, and the press conference concludes with both women led away but not before shooting glares at one another as they leave the room. And who can blame them? Plenty on the line tonight as the futures of both their careers hanging onto the outcome.

This being a Doll Ball, out comes the guest challenger first through the curtains: Lea’s body wrapped in golden silk as she presents herself in similar-coloured bikini and black boxing gloves, her blonde hair tied up into a neat battle bun. Jessica is out next to deafening cheers, the popular actress is definitely the fan favorite here tonight on her home turf. Her gorgeous red hair in a tight ponytail and she’s wearing her usual bright orange colours of a matching sports bra and knee-length tights with black and orange gloves completing her look. Referee runs them through the rules of this ten round Bantamweight contest, and at least we see some evidence of mutual respect when both girls touch their gloves before they make their way back to corners. HERE we go with the first fight of the evening!

ROUND 1:
There’s an eight-year difference between these two women, and perhaps that’s the reason Lea was acting so confidently in her opening remarks. Certainly, as the bell rings, the Frenchwoman doesn’t expect too much trouble from her older counterpart actress, and maybe that’s exactly the reason why Jessica’s sudden CHARGE in her direction is so effective! The older woman showing unusual aggression as she rushes at her opponent in the first minute, shocking Lea with a couple of straight hands to her guard from the get-go. Lea stunned more than hurt, judging from the expression on her face, appears to curse in French under her breath at having to deal with such an impassioned and brazen assault on her faculties. However, Chastain having to eat her own attempts when Lea bites back in the second half, the sturdy blonde not afraid to get down and dirty herself in close-quarters fighting. Chastain throws up her arms to block some punches, but her body takes a quick beating when Lea swings a left-right hook combo into her tummy, drawing some audible grunting to end the round. Some good, spirited attempts from both ladies right here in these first three minutes, in what’s surely shaping up to be an interesting rest of this fight!

ROUND 2:
Chastain’s brazen charge early on was more calculated than we were expecting, as here in the second she chooses to hold back instead and let Seydoux come to her! Lea’s face changing from that of irritation to sheer confusion, not knowing what to expect from her opponent’s hard-to-read strategy. Perhaps that *is* part of Jessica’s strategy all along! Lea coming inwards slowly, punching lightly and testing her defences. Jessica absorbing for the first minute, before again bursting into sudden action and managing to hit back with shots into the face. Lea’s grunting out loud as a couple of quick jabs sting her in the cheek and lips, forcing her to back away once more. Chastain however keeping her distance for now, content with scoring off the body as she hounds her foe across the ring for the remainder. Lea cheated out of this round, for sure, at least according to herself. Truth is, she allowed Jessica to play her like a French fiddle. She needs to find a more permanent solution to deal with the redhead’s unpredictability if she’s hoping to stay ahead.

ROUND 3:
That solution comes in the third round when Jessica again chooses to hang back and let her opponent make her own mistakes. But then again, she doesn’t anticipate when it’s Lea’s turn to RUSH in at her at the opening bell… It becomes Jessica’s surprise at this blind rush in her direction, and the Doll is barely being able to throw up her guard before an overhand right cross slams into the middle of her forearms, Seydoux further bombarding her with more and more power shots that begin to rock her frame. If Chastain’s not careful right here, she might be in trouble, with the attacks landing in all directions and all over her body and guard. Lea fighting like the former champion she is, viciously grinding her teeth and spitting out venom as she stuffs errant hands into the American’s body, further shocking her on the spot. Jessica no choice left but to clinch up from the onslaught in the final minute, and the two women struggle in each other’s arms for a good thirty seconds before the ref’s forced separation. Rest of the round sees Chastain looking battered and bruised, just wants to keep herself away, whereas Lea still cursing at her from afar and giving chase, leading to a stalemate in the action. Overall, however, there’s little doubt as to who actually won this round.

ROUND 4:
Lea not opening with that same rush in as before, but she’s still sticking to her guns and scooting forward briskly, hoping to capitalise. Jessica however this time is ready for her, keeps her arms fully over her face and bends low to avoid more body shots. She too barrels forward and the two women CLASH in the center of the ring, exchanging hard shots to the forearms before banging leather off each other’s bodies. Chastain coming out with a small advantage with her defences more solidly holding off against the tirade, and at the same time managing to slap a hook or two into Ley’s open face, which stun her enough to send her careening off to one side at one point in the wild melee. Crowds cheering the rapid exchange, of course, especially when Lea looks like she’s hurt badly once a third hook shocks her in one side. But the bell saves her at the last moment - another one or two of those rapid swings to her face would have certainly put her down for the count! Jessica walks away elated, but needing to keep up this kind of pressure if she wants to win!

ROUND 5:
Lea now perhaps realizing that she can’t go toe-to-toe with this woman, despite her age and height advantage. Jessica’s every bit of a heavy-hitter like herself, and there needs to be another switch in her strategy. French actress holds back early on, circling left and right and jabbing at Chastain, as the redhead attempts to close distance. On the other hand, Jessica still looking intent on finishing the fight early, and to do so well. She’s keeping her target practice small whilst continually advancing, hoping to add to the pressure on Seydoux. And it appears to work: Lea’s jabs landing on the arms and not doing much damage by themselves, whilst her head’s getting whacked backwards when more of Jessica’s straight hands start slamming into her midsection. There’s a moment in the second minute where she’s definitely hurt and bent over, stumbling backwards holding her body! HERE comes Jessica, who starts wailing on her guard, before tossing her upper torso about left to right with more shocking blows that rain in from a pair of dual hooks! A third such catches her on the head and sends her SPRAWLING down onto her side!

And it’s a KNOCKDOWN for Jessica Chastain as the crowd ROARS in approval!

A mid-fight game-changer that was! Chastain looking steady but confident as she raises both arms and allows herself a smile as she makes her way back to corner, leaving Lea squirming on the floor as she tries to lift her head off the canvas. Seydoux hearing the count in one ear, but there’s definitely some ringing going on, as she doesn’t appear to be able of getting back up in time for the referee’s 10-count. True enough, he hits the end of his count and the big Frenchwoman is still on both her knees, clutching at the ropes but to no avail! It’s over!

Official Decision: Jessica Chastain defeats Lea Seydoux via KO5!

AFTER:
Dolls begin the evening with a spectacular win on one of their own’s behalf! Chastain starting 2019 with an important victory under her belt. She looks very relieved and happy indeed, smiling and waving to her fans as she does a quick lap around the ring, with plenty of energy left in the tank to spare. And to think that this woman will be turning 42 in a few months!

Lea still bubbly-eyed as she attempts to sit back up, her head still ringing and swimming from the concussive force of those hooks. Jessica quickly making her way over however, bending down and pulling her back up to her feet, before the two ladies share a quick hug and some words of congratulations. A classy-act for the rest of her stable to learn from, most definitely!

"Everyone convinced yet?” Jessica later saying to reporters with a cute laugh. “Yeah, I did it! She's incredibly tough and I had to pull on some of my hidden reserves, I definitely think I surprised her. But yeah, I'm very happy! I know Katheryn has been all the rage in 2018, but expect to see a lot more of me kicking ass this year! Woo!"
