WHERE FOUGHT: L.A.

QUOTE: “Kaley was absolutely devastating against Erica,” Cat Bell told reporters in prefight, “I had no idea she had that kind of pounce.”

SYNOPSIS: Jennifer O’Dell had publically warned Cat in BLONDE! Magazine that BSE would not tolerate any undue Bell cruelty or carrying of the much younger ingénue. There’s no telling if Bell reacted poorly to those threats or what, but in handing out a savage 10 round shellacking to young Cuoco, Cat Bell seemed almost certainly to be painting a message to O’Dell and her stable—in the most vivid, broad strokes imaginable.

Counterpunching early, Bell faded and sidestepped early Cuoco rushes, neatly timing the youngster to steal the round with a beautiful right uppercut off the right foot in the dying moments, it was a shades of Bell/Smulders al over again, with Kaley carrying the round until she got hurt.

Catherine would go on to win the first seven rounds, many of them by shutout, many of them featuring tortuous systematic body work that had ringsiders screaming for mercy-stoppage five rounds in. An angry Jenny O’Dell was out of her seat, shrieking at the TE corner and had to be restrained by security. Kaley was being broken down brick by brick; guided by Cat’s jab into the ropes; beaten rigorously about her ribs, flanks and waist by a vintage Cat Bell shellacking, Cat would frequently enjoy the opportunity to steady a stooped-over Cuoco with the left hand on Kaley’s shoulder, pumping home repeat right hands before stepping over to work repeat lefts. Each and every round saw Kaley struggle back to her corner for hurried repairs and increasingly desperate pep talks. Crippled to the body, robbed of her legs, poor Kaley spent more and more of each round sitting in the ropes, soaking up the dreadful bombardment—swiping and flurrying back at Cat in spots to back an inquisitive ref off.

Kaley was able to win the  8th round as Cat took the round off and gave Cuoco the opportunity to spend herself against Bell’s peek-a-boo guard, then it was back to business for the brunette. The ninth featured the worst sustained punishment—head and body—yet suffered by Kaley, prompting renewed protests from O’Dell and concerned expressions from the BSE corner. Battered beyond recognition, Kaley refused to submit, mumbling “one more round,” as she slumped on her stool before the 10th.

Cuoco—her eyes swollen to slits—worked on the inside with Bell in the tenth, and Cat let her—easing back from the kid to walk Cuoco into uppercuts and hooks, then reaching in on her to push and walk her round. Kaley was beaten—Kaley was doomed—but Cat continued to apply juuust enough  force to subjugate, not annihilate. The beating would continue to the bell—Cat methodically digging into Kaley’s lungs underneath, twisting her hip to get slinging leverage on withering blasts. 9 rounds to 1, UD10 Cat Bell: tense moments followed as JOD, backed by the rest of the BSE clan stood off against the mustered TE women as panicked officials strove to maintain order. “That was the most coldblooded, heartless overkill I’ve ever seen in a boxing ring,” Jenny would tell BLONDE! Magazine in the days to follow. “Cat Bell should be ashamed of herself,. She also might want to watch her back.” An exasperated Bell was uncharacteristically crabby in response. “You know what? I’m so tired of Jenny O’Dell’s posturing. I didn’t see her easing up on Krista—she’s got a lot of nerve telling me how to manage my opponents.”

BEST MOMENT, CUOCO: The tenth round, Shipping the worst beating of her young life. Kaley Cuoco grit her teeth, covered up and refused to go down to the bludgeoning majesty of Cat Bell’s fists. At the bell to end the fight—Cuoco swayed out on her feet, but groggily defiant: she had not gone down once during the entire 210 round shelling.

BEST MOMENT, CAT BELL: Much of Bell’s work was methodical, workmanlike and unremarkable in terms of visual style, but in the first, she showed her class by walking the then-faster and more dynamic Cuoco into a heartbreaking counter right uppercut, Touching Kaley with the jab, Cat faded back, ducked and ripped the jagged uppercut off her right foot, clipping Cuoco perfectly beneath her chin and nearly spilling her to the canvas. It’s hard to call a turning point in the first round of a fight—but this pinpoint strike stole a confidence-building opening hear right out from under Kaley and laid the groundwork for a systematic carpet bombing the rest of the way.
