3. Lily Collins vs Nell Tiger Free

BEFORE:
Nell’s another new girl who just made her debut barely a few months ago, and having won her first match on VIX soil no less. If the promotion was planning to groom her slowly and steadily, however, this next match-up is NOT how you do it, with Nell having to face the former Flyweight champion Lily Collins herself in her second ever competitive fight. What’s amazing is that the 21-year-old Brit actress actually accepted the offer!

“I’m not that worried, to be honest. I’m ten years younger than Lily and have plenty of room to grow, win or lose. So I’m coming into this fight with an open mind. Maybe I’ll learn a thing or two,” Nell says with a smile at the press conference earlier, parting her dirty blonde hair to one side.

Lily Collins, however, definitely has more to lose tonight, coming off a win over Anya Chalotra and another important rematch against Cheryl Cole coming up just around the corner - if she somehow stumbles in this fight, all that momentum gets thrown out of the window, along with her potential title rematch chances down the line.

“That’s if the little tigress actually wins. I’m glad she’s being so open-minded and respectful. I might just decide to teach her a thing or two in the ring… right after I knock her out, of course,” Lily smirks from the other end of the table, making no further remarks besides a dismissive wave of the hand.

Ladies are actually the same height and build, with Collins bringing experience to the table in comparison to Nell’s hunger to make a name for herself. They pose on stage with their fists raised to each other’s faces, Nell surprisingly unintimated by Lily’s dark mascara and blood red lipstick as the two women stare steadily face-to-face.

Later, in the ring, Collins walks into the arena equally calm and with a smirk on the corner of her lips. Her dark brown hair is curled and bouncy as she mounts the ring-steps, allowing her black silk robe to fall to the canvas as she reveals her red sports bra and black boxing trunks underneath. She’s wearing a pair of white gloves for this contest. Nell bounds with her own brand of energy down the ramp, looking toned in a yellow sports bra and white boxing trunks, and pumping a blue glove high into the air. Referee gets the nod from both corners after they make ready in respective sides, and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:
Lily barrels in and ROCKS the younger Brit with a heavy cross to the arms, sending an early message that this fight is gonna be a short and sweet one, especially for Nell! Nell didn’t even have time to react, her arms barely up when that first KAPOW of a right hand stuns her to the middle of her guard, throwing her back almost at the starting bell! Lily with plenty of aggression and condescension mixed into her early assault, smirking as she fires another combo after combo into Nell’s frame, her fists mainly hitting the Brit’s stomach as Nell struggles to protect her vulnerable head with her locked arms. Collins is looking for an EASY knockout with her forward stance, pounds away on Nell early on but risks losing all her stamina at one go if she doesn’t see any results. Nell holds her own for a rookie, her tummy taking some nasty shots left and right but then, she fights back with intermittent blows that cuff Collins across the lips, further infuriating the Vixen. Bell rings and Lily definitely takes this debut, but somehow she doesn’t look too happy with Tiger still standing.

ROUND 2:
Another RUSH from Collins, who’s hoping that the second time’s the charm. An overhand right hopes to stun Nell out of the blue after the two girls meet in the center, but NO! Nell blocks the attack, deflecting it easily to the side with a raised arm - somehow anticipating Lily’s signature move, before a BLAST of her own sinks into Lily’s face! Ouch!! Lily wasn’t expecting that! Nell scores deftly with follow-up left-right combos stinging the nose and lips before Lily manages to cover and scram. Bad news on the horizon if the former Flyweight champ is so easily countered by a rookie on her second fight. But countered she does, and no matter what Collins tries thereafter, standing her ground and blitzing her punches back, it’s Nell’s turn to crowd in fast, returns with dull shocks to the system as she buries an uppercut into Lily’s gut, another snapped into her chin to win the second round wide.

ROUND 3:
Lily’s growls can be heard all over the arena, the Vixen not liking the fact she’s lost her lead, especially to a rookie. Similar aggression shown from earlier as Collins rushes the new girl, but this time, Nell’s better suited to meet her head-on, obviously having studied Lily’s fight patterns, as she avoids another superwoman cross directed straight for her forehead, easily sidestepping to the right before launching her own counteroffensive. Lily grunts as the rookie’s fists pack power of their own - Nell may be the same height as Collins but there’s no doubt she’s got some bulk to back up her attacks - another left-right combo smacks into her body to partially bend her over. Before Lily can counterattack, she takes a nasty hook to the face at point blank range, which sends her stumbling to the side! Nell with a twinkle, hunger in her eyes as she rushes in to try and finish what her foe couldn’t! A couple more bashing shots land all over Lily’s face, and she’s OVERWHELMED by thunder and lightning of the rookie! DOWN THE VIXEN GOES! Good lord! The new girl just KNOCKED DOWN the former champ! Nell’s left breathing hard from above, clearly elated though as she smirks down at Collins, who’s still scrambling backwards to try and find the ropes for salvation. Nell gets sent to the neutral corner by the referee, who then begins the count. Lily’s in partial shock, but instinctively knows what she needs to do to recover, pulling her body upwards with the help of the ropes, then finally steadying herself on both feet by the count of 8. Quite a scare there for the VIX corner, but Head Trainer Steve Boyd can be seen nodding with satisfaction that yet another girl they scouted earlier may prove to have potential in the long run.

ROUND 4:
Lily’s acting all cautious and sh*t when perhaps she should have taken the rookie seriously from the very start. Nell also is seen catching her breath but clearly playing the aggressor in the fourth, coming in hard and fast but staying at a comfortable distance to jab constantly at Lily’s head. Suddenly, all that fire and lightning is gone from Collins, who focuses on defending herself and preventing another humiliating knockdown from a relatively unknown entity. Girls don’t land anything significant this round except the occasional cuff or biffing jab to the head, but Lily’s still moving and throwing punches in an unsure, hesitant manner after almost getting KO’ed in that last round. Fine by Nell, who takes the initiative and tries to crowd out Collins’ space on her behalf, corner her with her back to the ropes whenever possible and then proceed to bash punches into her arms and body. We’d say Tiger comes out of this round with a slight margin once more, with another promising show that she might actually win this fight!

ROUND 5:
Over Lily’s dead body, it seems. The veteran Vixen wades in faster, without warning this time after getting a pep talk in between rounds by Boyd. Lily employs some of her patented moves, slipping her head left and right and around Nell’s punches with great agility before punching the younger blonde back in the face, snap jabs directed to the nose and lips, resulting in Nell losing out on this new exchange, not used to having her punches missed when her opponent is right in front of her face. The younger actress mixes it up a little, showing some promising results as she connects with a hook low to Lily’s tummy, another grazing the arms and throwing Lily back by a little bit. But Collins always returns with a vengeance, slamming another straight punch into the cheek and then slipping her head to the side to avoid a comeback attack. This is what the champ is known for, and she finally puts an end to Nell’s lead with a win in the fifth.

ROUND 6:
Nell looks flabbergasted as her old tactics have stopped working, and she doesn’t really know what else she can do to put Lily away. The younger blonde falls back on pure aggression as she charges the Vixen down, swinging madly at her head and body, hoping that quantity is gonna outmatch quality. But Lily moves backwards and along with her, weaving her torso and head to avoid a flying hook before snapping an uppercut into the base of her chin. Nell’s still not willing to quit, dazed but lunging back with one of her own that shocks Lily to the arms. Not quite the same damage inflicted but Lily gets another taste of Tiger’s power. Late in the round, another hook gets parried suddenly to the side, intercepted by Collins as she pays the stunned girl back with a power glove shoved into her mouth, almost blasting Nell off her feet if it wasn’t for her back hitting the ropes to save her. Lily strides in fast, however, burying another right uppercut hand into that pale, toned tummy of hers, before hook after hook is drilled into the belly for good measure, but Nell STILL refuses to go down, holding onto the former champ’s shoulders and arms whilst gasping for air, before the bell rings too early.

ROUND 7:
Nell doesn’t seem so much hurt as she looks pissed to start the seventh. By contrast, Lily looks partially surprised, partially drained, as she realises that we’re entering the later quarter of this fight. What began as a confident statement to put the rookie down before five rounds has turned out the opposite! Nell still looks fresh even after all that punishment, meeting Lily in the center and immediately exchanging fast jabs to the head. Lily is growing complacent again, in daydream mode as she assumes things are about to get wrapped up - she fires a combo into Nell’s guard but immediately grunts as Tiger pounces back with a one-two shot clean to her chest! Lily’s lips are parted in shock for a brief moment, then STUFFED in with leather as Nell SINKS another glove into her lips for good luck! OUCH! Lily sent flailing, looking primed for yet another knockdown! Say it ain’t so! Nell rushes in after her, revenge scored for now as she targets the Vixen’s tummy, beating it like a drum with left-right-left gloves sunk straight into her paunch, the occasional uppercut blasting into Lily’s arms to try and break her resolve once and for all. Lily’s wilting fast, her back hitting the ropes after all that, confidence melted as she focuses on staying afloat in the final seconds of this fight! Can Nell stun the audience a second time?? NO - the bell rings too soon after, just as Tiger manages to slam another overhand off the top of Lily’s head, which sent the Vixen sprawling into the ropes, looking punch-drunk but still standing! If this keeps up, this fight might just be another candidate for upset-of-the-year!

ROUND 8:
Lily really dug in now, breathing hard behind her gloves as she takes cautious steps out of her corner. Nell is doing the same, but looking cocky for someone in her advantageous position. The points have it so far clear and present in the youngster’s favour, which means all she needs to do is keep up the pressure on the former Flyweight champion. Lily, on the other hand, needs a big win in the next few rounds if she wants to avoid potential embarrassment by the end of the night. Here, she eschews her former aggression and wanton charging, goes back to tagging Nell on the face whenever she tries to get in close. One piece of good news is that Nell herself looks winded, not yet ready for another blatant charge towards Collins to try and finish her off yet. Ladies spend the first two minutes slamming tight jabs into each other’s faces, Collins in particular earning her keep with tighter blasts to Nell’s nose when the blonde mistakenly lowers her guard to protect her body. Overall, Lily does enough to out-box her rival this time round, though the last minute advance ain’t gonna tip the scales in her favour.

ROUND 9:
Nell tries yet another rush towards Lily in the first minute, hoping to take the older woman off-guard and score the upset she’s looking for. No dice, however, as Collins takes the abuse like a woman, grunting as her body’s pasted by a one-two combo, but most of Nell’s lunges are directed towards her head and absorbed by her arms. Almost remarkable to think that we’re in the ninth round when most fights in this league don’t even go past the seventh. Nell’s attempts to keep up her attack and drive Lily into the ropes, however, are a clear rookie mistake of not reading the room right: Lily’s very much still alive and willing to fight back, the Vixen scoring a nice counter-hook across Nell’s face to blunt her momentum, before a snap uppercut hits square on the jaw quite nicely, further throwing Tiger’s guard wide open with an ughh! Slowly but surely, Lily Collins goes back on the offensive, pushing the new girl back with all that she has left in the tank: whacking left-right-left combinations sent into her pretty face, the odd hook to the ribs and stomach making Nell lurch forward with grunts, before a final cross is DRIVEN straight into her chin, and THERE’S THE MONEY-SHOT, Nell looking like she just got HAMMERED by a truck as she wobbles dangerously on her feet! Collins leaping in and BLASTING her across the chin with a final hook, which sends the poor blonde DOWN TO THE GROUND! It’s a return KNOCKDOWN from Lily Collins, who systematically dismantles the rookie’s attempts at glory! Nell left groaning on her face down on the canvas, barely able to lift her head as the referee counts her all the way out to ten! It’s finally OVER!!

Official Decision: Lily Collins defeats Nell Tiger Free via KO9!

AFTER:
What a match! We’re not sure who we’re supposed to be rooting for after such a grueling contest: Lily Collins’ spectacular comeback win or the rookie’s brazen attempt at an upset performance! Nell having turned herself over minutes later, before burying her face in her hands and looking disappointed that she almost stole the show. Almost.

Lily on the other hand is just glad the fight is over, stumbling back to her corner after nine grueling rounds of back-and-forth warfare - some of the Vixen’s ex-title fights weren’t as difficult! Alas for those expecting post-match fireworks, there’s a mutual show of respect from these two women, with Lily begrudgingly moving over to Nell’s corner later and offering the rookie a handshake. Nell immediately brightens up from her stool, initially thinking she was about to get tummied up and humiliated like all of Lily’s ex-opponents.

But no - there’s true promise here and potential in Nell Tiger Free, and if Collins is woman enough to acknowledge it, then we’d bet the rest of the arena will do so as well. A standing ovation greets both women, before Collins quickly exits the ring and heads backstage to recuperate for her upcoming fight with Cole.

“Sh*t. She’s got some talent. I can see why we scouted her in the first place. If I were any less of a fighter, however, things would have probably been different tonight. If Nell, for example, decided to go up against Emma...” Lily speaks to reporters later, and ending that last statement with a sly grin to the imagination.

“I lost tonight, but like I said before: I’m just happy for the exposure. And going up against someone like Lily Collins - I know what I’m capable of now, and what I need to work on. I honestly can’t wait for my next fight!” Nell later beams hopeful to reporters, red-faced and dirty blonde hair in a well-deserved mess.
