Carmella was complimentary, but did say she thought Laura was "throwing her career away" by fighting at lightweight, adding "she'll never be strong enough for those girls."

"Experience is weight," Laura continues, eyes daring any to challenge her. "Courage is punching power - maybe Carmella could do with a dose of that herself. But whatever - I'm fighting Ashley, and I know she's very sturdy, but I saw all sorts of things in the Lively fight that I'll be able to put to good use. It's a great challenge: obviously this girl can punch - I'll be in danger every second. My whole body is humming with anticipation for this test - I can't wait, guys!" Newbrough starting to look more at ease in press conferences: pretty young slugger living up to the Heigl comparisons early in her career. "I read that article,"

Ashley says at podium, "Carmella's bang on. Laura's got nothing that'll keep me off. When I see girls like her in a club - skanky-thin blondes? I punk them out without even throwing a punch. Laura's going to make a beautiful stepping stone for me. It's gonna be 'TIMBERRRRR' - you know?"

During R1: Laura scampering - limber legs propelling her side to side at the hop, turning either Ashley flank. Laura's hands at waist: she's bringing punches up, jamming them right-left-right in scrubbing combinations up top - bumping away at Newbrough's guard, then sidestepping her. Ashley glaring while smiling, stepping aggressively forward...but she's getting pre-empted, scrubbed, and turned. Newbrough unhurt - Laura's not setting down on anything and not much is getting through - but Vandervoort exposing brunette footwork early for points.

R2: Laura's plan evident: scampering side to side circling and sudden direction changes; bumping, scrubbing flurries up top. Newbrough unpacks the jab, punching Laura heavily to upperchest: blonde knocked off stance as Ashley comes forward. Minute mark - swinging Newbrough right takes Laura in the ribs: Vandervoort stricken, stumbling to her right. Ashley steps in, slamming a right to Laura's chest: thumping blast drives blonde ragdoll to ropes. Newbrough grinning, pushing in: Laura forms earmuff, stooping forward, digging in at apron. Ashley bashing away - clubbing at Laura's biceps/flanks; pushing Laura; bodying Laura heavy to ropes. Vandervoort snarling, dipping to either side, lifting lanky uppercuts into Ashley, trying to slug her off. Newbrough too sturdy: she pins Laura down, hands her a thumping as sinewy blonde bravely takes her beating.

R3: Back to the pre-emptive punching and scampering evasion for Laura. Ashley following blonde around, keeping dukes up: Newbrough not jabbing, not cutting off the ring. Laura lifting punches up to scrub at Ashley's guard, but blonde opening up the playbook a bit. Laura will lash a lanky hook while executing sleek pivot-left - pounding brunette paunch while escaping receipts. Similar move to the right - bandy armed right hand clapping Ashley's body as blonde slides off to the side. Laura's eyes wide with concentration: she's got Ashley turning in confusion as blonde touches brunette for points.

R4: When Ashley remembers to jab it's SO useful. Laura punched in her chest by stiff, straight lefts: Newbrough able to force Vandervoort backward and walk her down. More toe-to-toe exchanges as Laura's backpedalling - blonde slapping punches, lifting punches up off her hips, but getting drilled in return. Halfway through, jarring one-two stiffens Laura's legs: she turns to her right in confusion, hands in front of her face. Snarling Ashley pours in - right hand over Laura's tanned left shoulder - bashing blow bludgeons Vandervoort to all fours. Newbrough roaring, eyes bright: Laura's a shaken beauty rising at ropes. Resume: Newbrough pushes in. Squaring away at the ropes, Ashley's a brute - pulling Laura's wrists down and clobbering at her. Vandervoort battered: breasts, tummy-meat jumping and bunching under heavy impact; head jerking around as Ashley clubs blonde temples. Robust stuff: Newbrough ragdolling her blonde - but Laura proving sinewy tough, keeping her hands up, bending at the waist, rolling as much hurt as she can.

R5: Tummy-jab-and-scoot from Laura: she stoops, reaches in the left to Ashley's stomach, lopes away from receipts. Newbrough pre-empted, falls into the habit of following Laura, waiting on her. Vandervoort banking touches - then scrubbing away up top - then scampering: blonde keeping back off the ropes; constantly moving Ashley's feet. Newbrough lands swinging right hands in Laura's flank, but can't get leverage: Vandervoort throwing knuckleballs through 5.

R6: Tummy-jab-and-scoot - Laura taxing big girl's body. Flurries up top: Laura confusing, vexing a big girl. Loping footwork to either side; pivots around slinging hooks or buggywhip right hands: Vandervoort starting to touch Ashley up here. Newbrough startled at one point - actually ponytrotting with hurt when Laura leans into a blazing right hand to ear. Vandervoort generating relaxed, lanky leverage - arms akimbo as she leans in and strokes punches from her waist. Bell: Newbrough blinking, discouraged, haunted by a sleek blonde through 6.

R7: Laura feints Ashley into covering up tight, then strokes the body - blonde landing loud with that limber-limbed, whipping delivery. Newbrough grimacing: Laura's really strapping brunette waist and ribs - then she's pivoting 'round either flank, stranding Ashley in space. Newbrough occasionally getting into position to shove hard right hands into Vandervoort's belly: blonde quick to tie up or bail out rather than risking lengthy exchanges.

R8: Newbrough really over-reacting to Laura's feints now: brunette cringing forward behind her mitts, posing pretty for lashing blonde body shots. Vandervoort's definitely got something downstairs: feinting or jabbing Newbrough, then stroking her succulent. Ashley groaning throughout a trying middle minute: several successful blonde attacks have brunette stricken, unable to pursue. Newbrough recovers well, clubbing Laura heavily about her biceps and breasts late, preventing any kind of blonde jail-break. Laura's round however: she's piling up the potshots through 8.

R9: Laura supple, rangy - freezing Ashley with feints or jabs, then slashing right/left to paunch, pivoting-left for the get-away. Newbrough grimacing, plodding: munching blonde body work has brunette heavy-legged, weary. Vandervoort pretty outside - loping and stepping, changing directions: she's just picking her spots, moving in, stroking Newbrough a bandy-armed lick to midsection, then getting out of Dodge. Bell: Vandervoort strutting a little; polite blonde doesn't like to rub it in, but she's got this thing under control.

R10: Newbrough catches second wind, problematizes things for Laura. Vandervoort repelled by bashing brunette punches: Ashley finally moving her hands, simply clobbering Vandervoort off her stance. Chasing Laura to ropes, Ashley bodies up: Laura pancaked to ropes, then bullied as Newbrough secures position. Hard in-fighting erupts: Ashley lowering her head, pumping to that sinewy midsection with both arms chugging. Laura baring her teeth, dipping side to side, fetching Ashley lanky uppercuts off either foot. Good stinging trade: Newbrough gets the better of it, but she doesn't have KO snap left in her delivery. After: Pretty, young blonde bamboozles pretty, young brunette: Newbrough blinking back tears as decision is announced. Vandervoort gracious considering Ashley's prefight 'tude: blonde has a hug and words of encouragement for her discouraged foe. "Blake had the right idea," a chipper Vandervoort relates in postfight, "she just didn't have the ability to execute. I had to be in wicked shape tonight - both to keep Ashley moving and to withstand her attacks when she had her moments. The girl is VERY heavy handed - I knew I couldn't stand in front of her all night. With a little bit of seasoning, I'd love to see her take on Heigl, because that would be a real slugfest, and Ashley's actually a little prettier. Tonight though, I'm just happy to get the points by nibbling, and hopefully, Ashley'll have learned a lot from what I was able to do to her."
