MELISSA BENOIST VS CAITY LOTZ

Results: Lookout Writing Medallion & Archer

Prefight: A fight between two of the Arrowverse's best. Caity new with Medallion wanting to make a name for herself and win the Bantamtam title. However after three straight wins she was recently derailed by a TKO loss to the Pretty Little Punchers Sasha Pieterse. As for Melissa, she's had a shot at the Bantamweight title coming up short but going eight rounds.

"That loss to Sasha was a fluke and I need to erase it. So I am taking on another PLP bantam. These are the type of fights I need to get ready for the title." Caity says. "I need to get things back on track and rolling towards that title shot.

"I know Caity very well." Melissa explains. "She's a great athlete and tough as hell but she's not been in the ring with someone like me yet. The fact that she couldn’t beat Sasha says she’ s not ready for me. The little birdie is going bye bye."

“We’ll just see about that,” snaps Caity with a steely glint in her eye.

Caity in the ring in with white bikini with black gloves and boots (white laces). Melissa in short red trunks with a yellow stripe up the side and blue sports bra. Red gloves and boots with yellow laces. Ponytails for both ladies.

R1: The two look confident in their corners ready for war. At the bell, Caity and Melissa come out and touch gloves then go to work. Melissa uses her reach to keep Caity off balance flicking her jab into the smaller blonde's face and chest. Caity trying to work her way in against Melissa, but Melissa’s doing a good job of keeping her at a distance. Melissa maintains control to the bell and leaves Caity looked frustrated. Round goes wide to Melissa.

R2: Caity not about to be kept away from Melissa. She is out of her corner quickly at the bell and swats Melissa hard to the jaw with a well-aimed right. Follow-up left digs into Melissa’s belly and Melissa is now back on her heels. Caity keeps up the pressure as she strikes at Melissa to the head and body in a nicely varied attack. Melissa manages to steady herself behind the jab, but Caity keeps the leather coming down to the bell. Caity Lotz wins the round wide.

R3: Melissa now on the attack, she comes in close on Caity with a series to punches to the midsection. Caity hunched up under the body blows, but fights back with counters into Melissa’s torso. The two now circle around and try to find openings to strike from unexpected directions. Melissa throws in quick licks to the sides of Caity’s head. Caity falls back to clear her head and Melissa moves with her bringing a wave of hooks into Caity;s belly. Caity jabbing back to stall the offensive and the two are soon back at it toe to toe with neither budging until the bell. Results is close, but Melissa Benoist takes the round.

R4: Melissa again forcing the action in close to start the round. Caity fighting back, but that fit body is taking a pounding as Melissa’s rakes it with rights and lefts. Caity forced back several steps before she can big in and make a stand. Then Melissa sneaks in a surprise overhand right that strikes Caity between the eyes. Caity momentarily stunned, but instinctively keeps her gloves up around her face to block follow-up. Melissa goes to the body and works over Caity’s chest before returning to the belly. Caity jabbing back, but it’s not enough to keep Melissa from edging her out on the judges’ cards.

R5: Caity responding to Melissa’s pressure tactics by being quicker out for the new round and catching Melissa just setting up. Caity’s right flashes out and connects with Melissa’s jaw. Melissa’s head swivels and then Caity smashes home the left to the other side of Melissa’s jaw. Melissa’s head swiveled again. Caity then goes for the chin and a right uppercut sends Melissa floundering backwards into the ropes. Caity on her with driving rights and lefts to the body as Melissa covers her face and huddles against the ropes to stay upright. Caity really working Melissa over for nearly two solid minutes. Melissa shuddering under all the punishment, but still keeps standing. Bell finally ends the punishing ordeal for Melissa, who leaves the ropes on trembling legs and makes her way slowly back to her corner. Caity smiles a crooked smile of satisfaction before she goes to her own corner. Caity Lotz wins the round in a shutout.

R6: Melissa gets plenty of attention of the PLP corner crew as they try to repair the damage she took in the previous round. However, Melissa looks defensive and tentative as she comes out at the bell. Melissa trying to use her longer reach to keep Caity back. Caity responds by moving from side to side to confuse Melissa. Finally pays off, when Melissa is drawn off balance by a Caity feint to the right, while she strikes with a left to the chin. Melissa knocked sideways by the blow and shows confusion as Caity quickly follows up with more shots to the chin from the right and left. Melissa wilting backwards and then a final right uppercut from Caity sends Melissa crashing onto her back! Caity hurries to the neutral corner. The referee moves in. Melissa rolls to one side and tries to push herself up, but she can’t make in time!

“You’re out!” The referee concludes.

After: Caity walks the ring with her arms raised in victory. She then returns to the Medallion corner where she is congratulated by teammates Kaley Cuoco, Emily Bett Rickards and Shelley Hennig.

“That felt really good,” a happy Caity tells the press, “Melissa was tricky to handle, but I figured out how to do and put her down. This was a great win for me! I’ve put the loss to Sasha Pieterse behind me! Onward and upward to that title shot!”

“I think I got careless,” Melissa Benoist says ruefully when later meeting with the press. “I thought I was in control after R3 and R4, but then Caity caught me off guard in the 5th. I was just knocked around too hard in that round and couldn’t recover fast enough. I should have been better prepared for a comeback and that’s a mistake I hope never to make again!”

Maybe the loss to Sasha Pieterse was the fluke Caity has been insisting it was. In any case, she answered that loss with a solid win over a tough Melissa Benoist. It, indeed, looks like the Medallion hopeful is back on track. Meanwhile, Melissa Benoist and her PLP managers will be plotting her comeback fight. The next fights for these two should be of great interest to fans of FCBA bantams
