Before: Special commentator Jeri Ryan ringside: acerbic, honest and blunt. "I'll just say it: Biel's overated, she's like a brunette Brittany Daniel," Ryan says off the top. "She's a very talented fighter, but she hasn't fought the big-fight fighters because she's not confident in her ability - nor should she be. Bell would bully her, Theron would embarrass her, and I'd knock her out - why get exposed like that when you can feed on cupcakes and get this badass rep? Jessica does have a good style against Garner - she's a little more fluid, a little more relaxed and her timing bothered Jen last time out, but Garner makes the best adjustments in the game: she'll be better, and I think she'll chop Biel up. Either way, winner gets stretched by me, so it's kind of a joke defence in my books. Garner had a chance to step aside and recognize my legitimacy to challenge: Biel should have insisted on fighting me - the fact that I'm being frozen out tells me all I need to know about these girls." Jennifer in Pale blue camisol (Daredevil) and panties, hair back - Jessica in tawdry pink spaghetti strap cotton cami, panties, messy ponytail.

During R1: Jessica: right under her chin, left across her belly, prowling footwork, upperbody feints. Jennifer, chin tucked, dukes up at eyebrown height when she's stepping in with the jab, bopping back out, lowering her hands when she walks to the side out of range, eyes flashing. 30 second mark - brisk thrust/riposte - Biel bouncing in and out - Garner steps with, shoots a jutting right hand off her shoulder to chin and BIEL SCOOTS TO HER BUTT! Startled 8 Jessica - she's buzzed but functioning. Minute mark - Jennifer having jabbed Biel to ropes, works the champion's midsection with clawing hooks as Biel slides to her right - Jess misjudges distance - Jen hops, leads with that poke-and-retract straight right and DROPS BIEL AT THE ROPES! Jessica shaken, cut above the left eye, she nods aggressively at the ref as he checks her out. Two minute mark - Jennifer cutting off the ring, jabbing Jessica senseless - Garner poking stick, half steps right, turns over that shooting right hand over Jessica's left shoulder - Biel hurt AGAIN, stepping in fence post holes - Garner puts a tidy left hook on top and BIEL GOES TO HER BACK! Crowd in hysterics - Jessica numb, knees flexed up, hands at her eyes as she tries to shake off the KO - SOMEHOW she beats the count, but OH, the damage done. ON COMES GARNER! Not for the faint of heart - Jenny G POURS herself at shabby Jess - pounding away crisscross lefts and rights, banging back Biel's head on limp neck, buckling Biel's knees. Champ slumps in the ropes, taking punches, somehow refusing to go down - Garner still piling it on after the bell until tackled away by the ref. Jessica BADLY busted up, eyes in shock - she's hustled to her stool for smelling salts, anti-coag, vaseline, pressure, and prayer. Rare 10-6 first has Garner corner popping champagne and animal crackers early.

R2: Garner backs off, spent up a lot of money in the first, even for her - doesn't want to get overextended. Jennifer going to work on that cut like a pro - jabbing at Biel's left eye, dropping short rights on it - Jessica's low left, slip and counter style won't work if she can't see - Biel adjusts to a more orthodox dukes up, squared stance as Garner circles, boxes clinically for control.

R3: Patient Garner - Biel getting herself together. Corner has Jessica's leak under control, she's keeping her hands up at eyebrow level. Garner patient, stepping right and left, still pumping that jab up top even though Biel's blocking it now - Jennifer using the occasion to hook the exposed ribs and angle the straight right down into the sternum. Classic Jenny G - high tempo, straight punching, working behind her jab, circling and darting in and out on a pair of boxing's springiest legs.

R4: Biel just about recovered when disaster strikes again. Minute in, Garner with a quick one-two off the guard, dips, jerks the left uppercut to the chin, leans out to pull a swiping hook across Biel's temple and JESSICA SPILLS TO ALL FOURS! Biel rocked, wobbling badly as she stands up quick - she takes the standing 8 all glassy eyed and ramshackle. Garner pressing - jabbing to the chest, right cross, left hook LOUD on the gut - but Biel won't punk. Jessica getting positively ransacked to her body, but fighting well off the ropes - good loose upperbody movement and shoulder turns, fitting in timing rights and tasty left hooks - Jennifer not unscathed as once again she's denied a finishing run.

R5: Biel toughening up - she's hurt, she's broken down, but she's not quitting. Jessica jabbing with Jennifer, hooking off the stick and beating Garner to punches - Jen stepping out and circling, now being backed up as Biel digs down. Not a lot of work getting done - Garner taking flight, trying to guage how much Biel has left - Jessica gets to the body with a nice biting hook this round to show she's still got snap.

R6: Biel with another productive minute, but deflated midway through when Garner fades her, feints and lands a crowd-pleasing hesitation right Claire Danes would be proud of. Crowd groaning as Jess nearly folds up her tent - champ stepping in fence post holes to her right, hands up, trying to shake off the pain. Garner right back to that body like a pro, hooking Jessica's breadbasket mercilessly, crippling the champ at the ropes, and the final minute sees Jen escalate. Garner palming Jessica's shoulders, shrugging in juicy lefts and rights to Biel's bulging rack - Jen Garner committing up in there, digging, pumping, pushing for room and staying on those melons with single-minded ferocity. Ryan nodding pensively, tacitly giving Jennifer grudging respect for it - Biel sobbing aloud at the brutal treatment. At the bell, Garner chesting up and forcing eye contact: all about breaking Biel down in between her ears - Jessica teary eyed, but defiant, won't give Jennifer satisfaction. Ref intervenes as neither girl's budging.

R7,8: Garner systematic, chilling, breaking Biel down with clockwork efficiency. JG in and out, hooking the body, hooking the head, jabbing and getting tasty, short right hands. Jennifer completes the work on Jessica's left eye, sealing it shut with cruel precision. Jenn sustaining a nice rapid tempo, feet in position at all times, getting off short and hard, getting 'round either Biel flank. At the ropes, Garner palming, getting big and strong on Biel, beating the body, looking for short, jagged left uppercuts. Through it all, Biel's stubborn - bloody but unbowed. She's looking for spots, still nailing Garner the odd counter-hook off the ropes or surprising lead right hand. Garner retaliating savagely ever time she's touched - trying to teach Jessica not to resist. After 8, Jessica Biel badly beaten, all lumped up and achy from remorseless gut and ribwork - proud champion simply won't capitulate.

R9: Biel fighting hard, but it's starting to add up - the consistent, snapping body shots; hooks and crosses she can't see, exploding off her face and dazing her. Midway through, Garner just putting together pretty 3s - she goes right/left on the waist, pauses, and jerks the left uppercut off her front foot to SIT JESSICA DOWN! Biel tormented by yet another knockdown, betrayed by her legs - she flops and flounders, struggling up at last to beat the count, fighting back tears. Jen on patiently - touching the closed eye jabs, and landing a crisp, short right as she briefly bodies up, then steps to the right. Jenn hooking that midriff, hooking that midriff, then LEFT UPPERCUT! Jessica staggered on the spot, eyes closed, gobsmacked - Jen puts a slicing right across the chin to ROLL BIEL TO HER BACK! Crowd screaming - it's all over... but JESS BEATS THE COUNT! Biel rolling in slow agony to her side, somehow twitching herself back awake and climbing ropes to her feet - she's swaying pathetically, ref should stop it, but even he's in awe of the effort. Deep breath Jen, shoulders up and down, then she moves in for the kill. Smashing, wet right hands straight through the guard, swatting hooks on the ear, fishhook left uppercuts to pop Jessica's head up - it's a torrid whirlwind of textbook perfect, tidy punching. It's too much - poor Jessica slumping into the ropes, staring into oblivion, taking punches - ref FINALLY jumps in to cradle her to safety as Jennifer Garner straightens, relishing sweet revenge and taking back her belts in heartpounding fashion. TKO9 for the winner and NEW lightweight champ - Jennifer Garner.

AFter: FCBA record 6 knockdowns in a title fight - Biel simply refusing to go out to Jennifer's relentless fists - but realistically, this fight was won and lost in the first round. Every time Jessica rallied, Jennifer hurt her - just a miracle of heart and persistence from both women. "She wasn't the same Jessica Biel after I had her nearly out in the first," says the bedimpled new champ. "I can't believe she continued, frankly it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen in a boxing ring. I'm the champion again, I'm the winner - but Jessica Biel made me work every minute of that fight to take it from her. I'm a fan of hers, I really am." Ryan's take on Biel's astonishing will? "Garner's not much of a puncher," Jeri shrugs. "Sharp and stinging, but not a born stopper of other celebrities. It's a good win for her, but it takes her 9 rounds to do what I would have done in 2 - that's the difference."
