The thing you notice about Dunning or Kamano, even sparring, is how much slower they are now than in their primes. That factor alone puts them in peril against younger PPV stars these days, but against each other, less proved more as these two probably put on the best pure slugfest seen on any stage since Janssen/Wilson I.

The first round was the only heat which could be described as remotely tactical with the girls throwing batting-practice hooks and crosses, finding each other available and thereby setting the table for the breathtaking mayhem to follow.

Each and every round from the second to the tenth saw one or the other wiry cougar get KO-hurt, only to shake off the sock and come staggering back for more. They took turns strapping on shellack in mind-numbing sequences, belting one another flush lefts and rights against the ropes, walking each other down with reeling gaits, each seemingly just one or two more slobberknocking haymakers away from final defeat. They worked each other's breasts relentlessly, stacking one another up and wiping away to jug as the opponent stood stupidly sponging, staring. Dunning appeared out on her feet from the fourth on, rarely protecting her face, yet time and again saving herself with a single, swinging blockbuster to Kamano's ribs or jaw to set Hawaiian knees a-knocking.

In the end, Stacy won because she had more left, pure and simple. Debbe's got pride, heart, her punch, and conditioning - nothing else - time and again, Kamano was able to win an exchange simply by remembering to block the occasional shot, answering back as Dunning invariably over-committed on homerun strokes. Stacy's punching was straighter. Stacy's balance was better, enabling her to put the hook on top and put punches together more efficiently. What defence or footwork occured in the fight belonged to Kamano, allowing her to take slightly less damage than the all-in, all the time, Dunning.

For the statistics-minded, this fight looked more one-sided on paper than it was, with Kamano copping 7 of 10 rounds, 6 straight from the opening bell, dropping Dunning in the fourth and sixth rounds to sew the fight up early. But Debbe's spirited, semi-concious rally from the brink saw her slug to a 10-8 ninth that had Stacy out on her feet and showed that a little of the old magic still resides in Dunning's concrete mitts.

So what's the downside? The fact that this fight was such a thriller, fought before maybe 40 spectators under a hot Jamaican sun, for weekend expense money and lodging is the downside for both women. Both immediately guaranteed bookings throughout the Caribbean for the rest of the year based upon their ability to give and absorb hellacious amounts of punishment, which isn't something either beauty should be doing at this point in her career.
