Before: Connelly earning a bit of a rep as a cradle-robbing bully: badly outclassing young Navi Rawat last time out and looking for more candy via untested Devon Aoki. Aoki an aggressive, street-fighting bantam in the Grace Park mold - but without a lot of pro rounds or seasoning - at least she's well stocked with attitude coming in.

"Jennifer Connelly has no game," Devon asserts in prefight. "She's stiff, there to be hit, and baby - I'm gonna tee off on her. I don't care who she is, how many Oscars she's got, or who she's beat: she's never been in with anything like Devon Aoki before."

Connelly serene, professional, unrattled - looking forward to the challenge. "Devon's dangerous because she's never learned how to lose," Jennifer says. "She won't know when she's beaten like more experienced girls - consequently she'll keep trying when others would quit. It won't be smart - but it'll be dangerous. I can't stop working until she stops moving."

During R1: Devon with a herky-jerk stepping towards Jen - angry expression, whirling lead rights followed by scything left hooks. Connelly calm, sidestepping the pressure, dragging her front foot and looking to stick Devon in between Aoki's punches. Connelly with control if not command - working cautiously behind her jab and using the ring. Aoki snarling, slugging hard - not landing anything flush, but sheer fury enough to keep Connelly honest in a tactical first.

R2: Jennifer a little more constructive - now pre-empting Devon with a hard jab between the eyes, keeping Aoki's rockets on the launch pad. Jennifer establishing range - she wants to lean in with long right hands, come back with scouring hooks off the front foot - ringing Aoki up jaw and ribs respectively. Devon taking a good shot, but now not releasing at all: Jen's just banging away outside, jabbing for position and breaking Aoki down in systematic fashion.

R3: Second consecutive shutout, Jen Connelly. Aoki eating some very stern right hands on her jaw - Devon cringing, crossing her arms as she scuttles back - Jen banging her girl to ropes and bossing her this round. Connelly working Devon over methodically on the apron: right crosses ticketed for chin; swatting left hooks to ear setting up the Big Hook to liver, digging in behind Aoki's elbow. Devon grimacing, crossing her arms, bending forward and back - but she's sitting in the ropes and getting shelled in the third.

R4: Devon letting her hands go - catching Jen with looping overhand rights to force awkward Connelly retreats. Jennifer managing the chaos with educated feet and a cattle-prod jab - Devon stung repeatedly, brought to heel midring as Jen re-establishes distance. By the third minute, Connelly's leaning into right hands, coming back jagging hooks in Aoki's ribs or temple - Devon lumping up nicely through 4.

R5: Jen luring Devon to ropes, then spinning 'round her: Aoki chopping awkwardly at air as she's made to look a flailing amateur this round. Connelly continuing to step-lively, stab her jab to Devon's face - she's punishing Aoki, banging back that exotic face with consistency as Devon trudges forward. Connelly fitting some nice rangy hooks to Aoki's liver as Devon leans forward behind her mitts in frustration: good reefing impacts tugging at Aoki's body, cramping up her legs.

R6: Jennifer tightens the noose, sets down on her punches and starts to hurt Devon terribly this round. Aoki in shock from body shots: Connelly gouging home her hook behind that right elbow, either off right hands or that cuffing set-up hook on the ear. Connelly driving in off her right big toe to slam right crosses to Devon's jaw: Aoki soaking terrific wallop to her chin, badly rocked and disoriented as she faces groggily into punishment. Jennifer's form, distance exquisite: she's getting exactly what she wants on Devon through 6.

R7: Aoki shaking off her corner's pleas to quit on her stool - but she's ramshackle goods struggling out for the seventh. Heartless mop up from icy-eyed Connelly - Jen simply laying on finishing stroke as Aoki wilts to ropes at the stagger. Devon arms crossed, leaning into ropes with a dazed expression: she can't stop the rain as Connelly pours in. POUNDING right hands find jaw - Jenny back underneath with those vicious, liver-tugging hooks, and one of them ends Devon's night. Gorgeous biting hook shakes Devon, crippling her, cramping her forward, then she sinks to all fours as Connelly steps back, exhaling through pursed lips. That's it - Devon can't get off her haunches: KO7 in methodical fashion, Jen Connelly.

After: Connelly bucking the recent upset trend, slams the door on a young hopeful's face and leaves Aoki badly beaten for her troubles. Angry Amanda Bynes and Navi Rawat assembling in the ring to help Aoki to her stool, casting frosty glances in Jen's direction. Connelly's been very professional in handing out these beatings - hasn't humiliated her foes and has generally been very complimentary afterwards - but young bantams starting to look at Jennifer as more tyrant than role model after yet another ego-boosting whitewash.
