Before: Chen rushed into this title belt like she’s been tied to the grill of a bullet train--no book on the strip offers odds as Joan looks all wrong for the nubile champ. Chen got hit and hit plenty in her first flight back on US soil, and although she takes a good whack--getting hit can’t be Plan A against Lucy. Liu in black pushup, leopard print boycut trunks, slick ponytail. Joan in short, slicked back hair, black sports bra, black stretch pants to the ankle.

During R1: Chen too erect, hands too low, feet balanced as if to kick--she hasn’t converted back to north American boxing yet and it shows. Liu flat footed, bending low at the waist, plays at making Chen miss with little head bobs, then scoring at will to the midriff or face with either hand. Lucy not giving Joan much in the way of lateral movement--Liu’s right there--but Chen just can’t make contact, shortening up her blows considerably, but swishing over the top as Liu gets insanely low with a malicious grin on her face. Shutout Liu.

R2: Change of pace for Chen--she storms in on Liu, bodying up and manhandling the champ to the ropes. It’s effective stuff--at one point Joan has Lucy’s left arm tired up, allowing the challenger to stuff little left hands into the stomach before the ref can Issue a break. Liu trying to stand her ground, but Joan naturally bigger, bulls the champ around the ring, cuffing her up a bit in nasty clinches. Down the stretch, Liu dancing in retreat--reaches a pawing left then SPANKS a slashing right hand down across Chen’s temple as Joanie walks in--DOWN GOES JOAN! Chen rolling to her back, face twisted in pain, hands at her head--she can’t beat the count. Stunning one punch KO2 Lucy Liu.

After: Chen continuing the cardinal error of Following the puncher walks into a mirror image of the punch Hamed finished Ingle with it (for those that saw it). Liu reaching over the top rope to point at Kiana Tom ringside--Chen getting brutalized just so Lucy can send a message. Joanie’s got more to offer than she shoed--victim of cynical making and boxing politics,
