9 May 1999 Geri Halliwell vs Rachel Weisz

Before: Universal studios execs jam the ringside seats to scout highly touted Rachel’s title bid. Halliwell’s the British Isles Featherweight Champ for many a moon, but Weisz has looked impressive in private bouts. Both girls espouse traditional UK technique, looking to close and fight at close range, and Weisz has been reported to be a very good combination puncher. Pink push up bra and panties for Rachel; Black bra and panties for Geri.

During R1-3: Impressive opening for Weisz as she brings the fight to the normally fast starting Halliwell. Both girls tuck their chins in behind their shoulders, holding her gloves high and bobbing at the waist in classic orthodox style. Weisz works Halliwell over thoroughly, scoring a shutout in the first and a knockdown in the second after left hooks scorch Geri’s ribs—but Halliwell gets stronger as the bout progresses to take the third. All mouth on shoulder action as the girls get close and slug inside, often getting cheap in the process.

R5,6,7: Very little to choose between both women as each is physically and technically similar. Rachel just seems the more evolved fighter: she’s tighter with her punches and punches in bunches , rotating her shoulders to bat short strokes at Geri, opening up quickly until she’s landing full fledged haymakers. Halliwell more of a single shot fighter, using her crouch and legs to burst into big shots to the brunette’s stomach Rachel banks two more rounds to Geri’s one in very close scoring.

R8,9: Geri takes the 8^th, Rachel the 9^th as each round progresses in identical fashion, Halliwell behind on points going into the tenth looks discouraged at the end of the 9^th.

R10: The girls body up once again, and Geri seems to wilt as Rachel jerks short left and rights low and into the gut. Rachel steps back, snapping a short right uppercut against Geri’s chin, and Halliwell stumbles forward. Rache; pivots right and clubs Geri’s ear as she tumbles past. Halliwell hits the ropes and nearly goes down, but she’s helpless, and Rachel jumps her with controlled frenzy. Rachel smashes away wit those tight, rolling combinations and Geri is battered senseless, The ref steps in and stops this contest as Rachel scores a late TKO over Geri.

After: Rachel simply broke Geri’s will and closed the show in spectacular fashion. Universal signs Rachel to a 5 fight contract, and immediately casts her in THE MUMMY as the plucky female lead. Remains to be seen how Weisz’s throwback style will work against the more fluid American style—but studio execs are anticipating big thins for this unbelievably cute women.
