Before: “3 consecutive losses is a slump,” Gellar shrugs, commenting on Carter’s recent ring=woes. “the bubble’s burst—the clock’s struck twelve—and little miss haughty’s turned back into the pumpkin we all knew she was. Sarah’s the kind of girl I just can’t stand—a snooty little nobody that nobody knows or cares about, who acts like she’s queen of the ring. Like Portman.” Carter aloof with the press—losing looks terrible on her; dark circles under her eyes and stern, cranky scowls giving the fight-bloggers a field day as everyone seems to be enjoying Sarah C’s misfortunes. “This is a real character test for Sarah,” notes on Celebrity Ring fly-beat columnist, “She’s always been used to winning—she broke in at the WB with a win over Kreuk—and she really does view victory as her due I the ring. Sarah’s encountering stubborn resistance from veteran fighters now—girls who scrap hard for every point. She’s just going to have dig down and realize that she has to work hard too—she can’t rely on looks and talent alone—not at the FCBA level.” Carter sporty—white sport-cut top (thin straps), white bikini bottoms, small white work out gloves; low ponytail with frisky bangs framing face, Gellar in black bikini with white trim; small black work out gloves; short, squeaky-tight ponytail.

During R1: Gellar up-tempo, aggressive, going right at carter with pinging jabs to close, then tight-swiping combos—small gloves bouncing hot off Carter’s shoulders, scalp, chest. Carter frowning, legging out—having trouble tracking Gellar’s head movement with the jab: Gellar’s getting in range, getting off. Carter hooked twice to her tummy—very firm with TIP! TUP! Rips—she basically runs after that, trying to find a distance which will work for her.

R2: Carter in charge of her butterflies: lateral movement now serving to turn Gellar midring—Carter curving in from angles and getting off rangy. Nice slick stick from sarah C—pounding at Gellar’s upperchest, then tapping to hairline as carter ranges in. Right hands from outside graze Gellar’s jaw; slashing, doubled up hooks startle Gellar to jugs and ribs—Carter lashing her girl with ponytail swishing. Gellar keeping dukes up, elbows in, increasingly on the defensive—she’s waiting on Carter, crouching into Carter’s attacks and hoping to swipe back brisk to ribs and tummy in festive trade all around the ring.

R3: Gellar doubling up the spitting jab, stepping over to cut off the ring: she wrests initiative back from carter this round, Gellar landing several ringing right hands upside Carter’s head—Sarah C taking well, but concerned, shying away rather than answering immediately back. Gellar muscular to the body—good, carving hooks ripping at Carter’s firm underbelly, or raking those slender ribs: shades of Danes’ determined body attacks showing that flyweights everywhere are doubting Carter’s torso-durability.

R4: Carter answers Gellar’s adjustments with two new tools: right uppercuts off the right foot and illegal neck-clasps. Carter picking Gellar up tuff to body and chin via the uppercut, pre-empting SMG on the inside and backing her off. Neck clasps give Carter control as she pulls Gellar’s head down and turns her—Sarah C keeping her forehead on Gellar’s as they rotate—Gellar’s fretting at the other’s girl’s wrists and elbows. Ref breaks these things up—but it’s very muscular, controlling stuff, helping Carter dictate terms in a tactical 4th.

R5: More of the same—Carter slowly imposing her will in a variety of ways. 1.) Legs: Carter’s circling and curving in, disengaging when she wants—controlling pace and geometry. 2.) Hard punching: Carter’s right uppercuts and strafing right crosses starting to find the mark with jarring, small-mitt clout—Gellar taking well, but looking scuffed. 3.) Neck clasps: cheap, but effective—Carter pulling Gellar around, even holding and hitting her right uppercuts while tugging down the lefts. Breaks and warnings from the ref, but worth it for Carter: she’s piling up points, discouraging Gellar through 5.

R6: SHAFTING right hand shocks Gellar at the open—she’s sputtering, stamping in fence post holes; Carter quick-pivots right. Right hand penetrates, catches Gellar’s chin—she backs away wobbly butt, eyes glazing, Carter scowling, merciless—jabbing as she pounces forward, chasing Gellar to ropes. Right hand slashes to chin, sending fresh tremors down Gellar’s tanned thighs: pair of clouting hooks swats at Gellar’s mouth as Carter eases weight to right foot, Carter attacking just off Gellar’s left shoulder—she jabs SMG lightly to mouth, drops the right cross over; rips the rising left uppercut to solar plexus: poor Gellar’s coming apart. Gellar stiff-legged as she tilts forward in stupor: GORGEOUS right uppercut picks Gellar up, punching the mouthpiece off her teeth. Sarah C skipping backward even as she clips drooping Gellar a final goodnight hook: Gellar plows forward into canvas, sprawling helpless at carter’s feet. KO6 in clinical fashion—Sarah Carter.

After: THERE’S that smile—Carter braking her fierce, determined ice-queen veneer long enough to show the happy, competitive flyweight underneath: putting Gellar on her face is like a tonic to pretty Sarah C. “That’s better,” Carter gushes in postfight, white towel around her neck. Evian  bottle in one hand, “I just haven’t been myself lately—not sharp at all. Tonight, I feel like I got my edge back and used it to cut Sarah to ribbons. She’s shot—there was absolutely no excuse of me to lose to Sarah Michelle Gellar tonight, and I refused to let her compete with me.”
