Before; Tempestuous preflight conferences--Penny Cruz insulted by her selection as Ledoyen’s comeback patsy--haughty vixen won’t hear of it. “this peeg is not in my class,” Cruz snarls in preflight. “Spanish women have been putting down French women for generations--I shall add Virginie’s  name to the list of the beaten!” Former champ Ledoyen--the do-called “Parisian Portman”--thrilled to have a new lease on life--she’s anxious to reward her Tech unlimited paymasters with instant success. “Penelope is a soft fighter, yes?” Ledoyen demures at the podium, “She is like a flower of the hothouse--wilting as soon as he pampering ends. I do not dismiss her skills--she is pretty to watch-but I’m champion n’est pas? My hard fists will dismiss her skills in short order.” Penelope in pale pink string bikini--Ledoyen in vibrant electric blue string bikini.

During R1: Ledoyen circling at the perimeter-=-Cruz stalking, Penelope upright, fighting Passe Doble: the right hand at her cheek as she looks to step-and-poke her jab. Ledoyen in wide stance, supple at the waist--she’s weaving the jab, looking to slop limber right hand counters onto Penny’s chin, but Cruz’ legs keep her in the clear. Nice in and out, staccato stuff from Penelope--brisk, tap-dancing footwork, picky punching sees Spanish lass nab classy points.

R2: Similar stuff--Cruz a prototypical elegant European style boxer--very upright, hands high, working the jab as she darts in, out, and around. Ledoyen more American in approach: feet set flat, relying on upper body movement for defense, ‘Ginnie (no relation) sliding to her right 2 feet off the ropes--just weaving under jabs, pinging out her own rangefinder without urgency--she’s just gauging Cruz’ reactions and tendencies. Penelope the busier lass, tap-tap-tapping away--still hasn’t dropped a meaningful right hand although she carves a few slicing hooks off the stick as she takes the second.

R3: Cruz initiating again, pressing behind her jab: Ledoyen finally gets the timing perfect. Big, splashing right hand smashes flat against Penny’s jaw: Spaniard’s lips pursing on contact, head clouted starboard; back leg instantly gives way to set her down on her right knee! Virginie smiling down with insufferable French superiority--poor Cruz shellshocked, staring, head bobbling slightly as she gets her bearings. Penny up at 8, stumbling forward with a dazed expression: Ledoyen feinting her girl with fake steps in, then fading back, looking to clout Penny the wide left hand upside the head. Cruz collecting wallop on her jaw, stumbling forward, punching hooks and crosses--Ledoyen weaves back from the shots, leans back in with full commitment on right hands, sending Cruz staggering to her right. Virginie heartless in pursuit, pouncing after ramshackle Penny, clocking her right hands to the back of the head--Spanish lass scatters to her knees, arms draped over the middle ropes as she stares bleakly into the crowd, Cruz pulling herself hand over hand up the ropes to shake ff the count--slender Spanish legs trembling, long dark eyelashes batting as she sways on the spot. Ledoyen lunging in, crouching to spear her left jab into Penelope’s tender belly: Cruz bunching up, face punching in pain. Virginie steps right for an angle, leans in righty over Penelope’s left shoulder, hammering that exquisite face hard to starboard once again. Poor Cruz tilting forward, gloves at her waist--sweeping Ledoyen right takes Penelope fat in the side, just above her hip and she spoils to all fours with a sob, It’s over--Penny Cruz can’t  get off her knees--KO# in thudding fashion, Virginie Ledoyen!

After: Sparkling comeback KO for the all but forgotten Mademoiselle Ledoyen--Cruz stylish as ever, but brittle and not overburdened with heart, just can’t rise a third time. Ledoyen resplendent as she takes her Spanish rival for a ringing walk of shame--Cruz sniveling, eyes moist--Virginie guiding the beaten brunette around with the right arm around the hips, waving regally with the left. TU well known for attempting to “buy” he various titles with pricy free-agent signings: Ledoyen off to a good start tonight as the latest hired gun.
