PUNCHAHOLICS ANONYMOUS FIGHT CARD

"Knocking out Adelaide was exactly what I needed," said Alexa Vega shortly before facing off against Anna Popplewell. "I know, who hasn't done that, right? But I think it turned out to be a real motivator for me in my training. You know, I have to improve every day so I get to do that again! Anna isn't quite as much of a brat, but I intend to enjoy knocking her out just as much."

Anna Popplewell felt the need to push back firmly. "I take Alexa seriously as a competitor, but she isn't going to walk all over me in this one. The division is crowded and there isn't enough attention for everybody, so this is a consequential fight for me." The actress added that she "had been practicing hard for this fight and hopes Alexa had done the same."

While the setup hardly collapsed into chaos, both actresses seemed to be attempting to get under the other's skin while maintaining plausible deniability. Popplewell, in light blue trunks and sports bra, bounced around to warm up, looking eager to get to the action, as Vega, in red, stared back confidently.

Round 1:
Popplewell opened the fight by moving in and out, pecking at Vega as the other actress only inconsistently responded. Neither actress was in much of a hurry, though as the round progressed, especially towards the end, a better informed Popplewell was able to push ahead slightly harder offensively. The final result at the bell was unquestionably in Popplewell's favor, though the brunette had hardly turned any heads.

Round 2:
Fixed up by her entourage during the break, Vega entered the second round better prepared and with strengthened resolve. It proved to not be quite enough, as Popplewell managed to continue to pull ahead in the long grind. This time, however, Vega managed to make her rival pay a price for each exchange.

Round 3:
The second restructuring of Vega's tactics during the break seemed to do the trick; the shorter actress managed to take control of the fight after a tightly contested opening. Popplewell, frustrated, managed to make the first few exchanges painful for Vega, only to wilt under the shorter actress overall momentum as the round progressed. A bruised but determined Popplewell plopped down on her stool after the bell as Amy Acker attempted to steer her onto a better path during the break.

Round 4:
Highs and lows came in close succession in the fourth round; Popplewell, newly adjusted to Vega, landed a solid blow to the head on the shorter actress in the opening, only to have the favor returned several times over in the following minute unanswered. Despite a brief period of resistance towards the middle, Vega continued to run away with the round, battering Popplewell as it drew to a close and leaving the brunette bruised and flinching as she limped back to her corner.

Round 5:
Vega's momentum continued in the fifth round, though Popplewell managed to respond more effectively. No spiral here -- any period of dominance on Vega's side was punctuated by a significant contested period. While the blonde continued to pick up points, she could only do so periodically as Popplewell effectively pushed her back.

Round 6:
While the opening of the round was contested, with few punches hitting anything but the opponent's guard, Popplewell pulled ahead early in the sixth. An early combination put the blonde in a tough spot as her ineffective response allowed Popplewell to inflict even further damage. The brunette was consistent and unopposed, going for a sprint in the closing moments of the round. By the end, Vega's puffy face and messy hair summarized the round nicely, though the fact that she was still standing did seem to concern Amy Acker judging by the reaction during the break.

Round 7:
Vega, still feisty despite her bad experience in the previous round, hit a brick wall when she attempted to turn things around in the seventh. Popplewell played it safe, not giving up an inch and gradually wearing Vega down. Vega's face and body continued to absorb punishment until the second minute, when Popplewell saw her opportunity, leaning into the hook that buckled Vega's legs and caused the blonde actress to sprawl on her back. Vega was awake, but unable to lift a limb, much less stand, awarding Popplewell the KO7.

Vega spent a substantial amount of time on the mat, though she did lift her head in time to see a smiling Popplewell posing over her with biceps flexed, before the brunette bounced away happily to get hugs from her entourage. Once Vega was fully upright and responsive, the two fighters exchanged a perfunctory handshake before making their exits.

"Got her!" exclaimed an energetic Popplewell to the press. "She gave me some trouble, but I wouldn't keep showing up to fight if I had a problem facing a challenge."
