MEGHAN MARKLE VS. POPPY MONTGOMERY

BEFORE: Poppy Montgomery's SSB career seemed to be over after a bitter KO10 defeat at the hands of Eva Mendes but the Australian veteran takes one final swing at the American market and targets fellows actress Meghan Markle as a potential comeback victim. Markle herself has dispatched Mendes before however her free agency prospects took a severe hit when she was knocked out by Summer Glau back in March and has struggles to book another fight since.
With both women in need of a good result and any sort of exposure it's perhaps easy to explain why this fight takes place; this being said another loss for Montgomery and we might not see her in SSB again even against the free agents like Markle tonight.
Meghan Markle wears a red bikini set and black gloves. Dark brown hair straight. Poppy Montgomery wears a black basque top, white knickers and neon yellow gloves. Dyed dark brown hair loose. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
After over twenty months away from the SSB action Poppy takes it easy at the start with Meghan equally cautious just looping single punches from mid-range and waiting for the older actress to come forward. Poppy stretches her arms and tries to land some leather on the body but Meghan's quicker around the ropes to avoid any of that effort and counters over the top herself, she smacks the fellow actress on the mouth but holds back a quick barrage and has Montgomery lashing out in somewhat surprising fashion. She still tags Markle's temples and switches low to club a big jab on the navel which enforces a heated tangle where Poppy can just about come out on top and spike Meghan's pretty face with a committed veteran drive that has the yonger brunette wobbling and showing significant flaws in herr footwork attire as Poppy simply wobbles her back & forth and is unlucky not to dump the American on her heels and butt-in-ropes as the punches stack up against Meghan's face late on.
Round 2:
The Aussie got really excited over that late charge and believes to think Meghan is vulnerable to a continuous attack so she leaps after the younger brunette with more venom and clatters into the body before flicking a clubbing hook on the jaw. Markle tries to soak up the looming punishment in close range but is backed into the ropes and whatever plans she has for tonight it's nowhere to be seen as Poppy drives with more energy on the midsection and keeps the 'Suits' actress pinned to the ropes. A wave of body punches dissects Markle's midriff and makes her moan but she can only clinch the Aussie foe and doesn't do much to strike her way out of trouble. She still tames the charge by some dubious clinching but that's not what the crowd wanted to see and she gets jeered once the ref separates the two vixens. Poppy remains more agile on her feet but struggles to close the fellow brunette down again, yet she holds her own against the odds and leaves Markle unable to launch any meaningful attacks so far.
Round 3:
More of the same in the third, Poppy leaps around the younger actress and racks up the punches even if the conversion rate is poor. Meghan settles into close range and allthough she's focused on the veteran's antics she applies the waiting game seemingly looking for a single punch to send the Aussie packing. The counterpunching brings little success over the next minute as Montgomery's still fresh enough to dictate the pace of the action and in fact she clobbers Markle to the body before clipping the jaw with some sluggish but effective hooks. It's a bad advert for any free agent with Meghan out there and she gets pummelled back to the ropes in the final minute where she must resist more pressure from Poppy who bursts into her cleavage late on and thumps the truly lacklustre Meghan on the cheeks to secure another one-sided round. Markle signals to the ref she feels rather unwell here and we might hear more of that later on but for now Montgomery rolls back some years and affords herself a huge smile during the interval while her American rival just stares down at the canvas.
Round 4:
Poppy looks for that looming knockdown glory having been on top of her sluggish rival through nine minutes but a sudden blitz from Markle leaves her sagging on te heels when a ribcage attack catches the ACB veteran cold. Meghan bursts into a jabbing frenzy like she's got nothing to lose already and outworks the Aussie actress in close range before ripping more punches into the breadbasket to make Montgomery seek instant clinching respite. That's not gonna happen though as Meghan wrestles the older woman back to the ropes and sinks her with a massive left hand on the nose followed by an equally vicious uppercut on the chin. Poppy groans in pain but is too slow to mount a response from behind the guard and is trapped along the ropes with Markle pounding away at her body and leaning her head right above her shoulder. She shuts the older woman off for remainder of the round and the old demons return into Montgomery's playbook in a hurry as she's unable to live with the brawling game of her opponents and fails to intimidate the American with a lenghty stare after the bell.
Round 5:
The age difference between the two women begins to show now as Meghan crowds Poppy out in the middle of the ring before rocking her with a quick switch upstairs. Poppy tries to respond from the back foot but lacks the agility neccessary to even graze Markle's flesh and becomes an easy target for repeated counterpunching galore. Cue in that Meghan smile as she wipes Poppy's lips into a swollen misery down the stretch and finds extra pleasure pounding away to the body in close range. Montgomery is dumped on her heels and wrestled back to the turnbuckle where she slams a series on Meghan's ribage but eats a similar dose of leather on the chin and leans over the ropes with a loud shriek as the American keeps stalking her breadbasket to remove more air from the veteran's lungs. Poppy looks really vulnerable in the fitness department and we've only reached the half distance, she effectively wraps herself around Meghan's waist but still gets harpooned on the body and ends the round drawing red flags all over the arena.
Round 6:
Markle's on a rampage from the opening bell now, just hassling the slow moving opponent and stacking up unanswered punches to Poppy's swollen lips with the veteran unable to break free whatsoever. She covers up in deep earmuff but Meghan still exposes all the wear & tear by slicing herself straight up the alley and thumping the older woman's nose with a brutal left/right combos that meet no resistance come the minute mark... Poppy wobbles forward and finds a clubbing hook on the chin before Meghan signs off the destruction with a right hand on the solar plexus that pulls the plug on whatever's left of Montgomery's presence in the ring... DOWN GOES POPPY crashing flat on her face spread eagle and it's a messy departure for one of the TV icons here as she remains unresponsive to the count with blood seeping from her squashed lips... Routine KO6 Meghan Markle!!!
AFTER: Meghan looked unstoppable from the fourth round but what was going on there before that? She explains that she caught a stomach bug yesterday and was dehydrated all the way through but would never forfeit a PPV opportunity especially against a very hittable veteran like Poppy Montgomery. "If I was 100% healthy she wouldn't have made it past the third round but I was simply worried I might not embrace all these punches and get caught with some lucky hit. So I let her do that thing of hers but once I realized she's a pure journeywoman I blitzed her into a KO misery. That was real fun, I knew all it takes is to dump her on the canvas and she will stay there... and she did! I won't mind giving her a rematch but I doubt she's ever gonna return for another try! I humiliated her tonight even running on like three cylinders! Guess I deserve some PPV action after all, right? (laughs)"
Final result: Meghan Markle def. Poppy Montgomery KO6.
