Jessica Alba versus Britney Spears
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

A storied FCBA rivalry renewed for the first time in nearly a decade. Spears caused all kinds of problems for Alba when the two were in their early twenties, getting a draw and three wins in their four fights. Alba finally broke through with a TKO5 in 2006, however, sending Spears on a four-year slide that didn't end until she turned things around in Philadelphia in 2010. This is their first meeting since that 2006 Alba victory, so there's plenty on the line for both fighters.

"Britney was a thorn in my side when we were younger," Jessica says with a smile. "It took me awhile to figure out how to beat her, but, I've cracked the code now."

"It's been a long time," says Britney with a smile of her own. "Time to renew some old acquaintances. You know. Jessica's face with my fist."

ROUND ONE:
No doubt about who wants to do what in this one. Alba plans to use the legs and that quickness of hers, while Brit wants to bring the physical. In the early going, though, the legs rule. Jessica's moving extremely well, bouncing, snapping jabs, making Brit move the feet. Spears looking to cut the ring, but it's mostly halfhearted stuff. She's not expending a ton of energy chasing the brunette. Instead, she lets Alba jab and circle, and Jessica's happy to do just that. She's getting into a rhythm, working up a good sweat, stopping, popping, and getting moving again. This is good stuff from the brunette beauty, a reminder of how good she can be, of why she's a four-time FCBA champion. Britney, meanwhile, just sort of walking after Alba, keeping the guard high, looking for the odd opportunity to throw a punch. She's not forcing anything, taking what she's given, which isn't very much. No doubt who's claimed the points when the first ends. Alba 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Jessica wants to leg again, but Brit's more aggressive this time. She's moving to cut the ring, showing good footwork, trapping Alba and crowding her, forcing heavy exchanges where Brit's higher-caliber guns give her the advantage. Jessica holding her own, though, and keeping the exchanges short, slipping away at the first opportunity to get back to open canvas. It's good, tactical stuff on both sides for the first minute plus. Then, Spears cuts the ring, traps Jessica against the ropes, and, well, brings the physical. She stings Alba with a hard right to the head and then bunches her up with a hook to the belly. A right uppercut to the chin follows and ALBA'S HURT! Spears immediately goes for the kill, firing away with both hands as Jessica covers up, leaning back into the ropes in a high guard, rolling the head and shoulders. Britney shakes Jessica a couple of times during the assault, but Alba's slick and slippery, slipping, picking off punches, rolling with, doing enough offensively to keep the referee from stopping it. Britney scores plenty before the bell rings, grabbing the round wide to even things at 19, but Alba wriggles off the hook.

ROUND THREE:

Brit immediately tests Alba's legs. She wants to come forward, apply pressure. Jessica, however, is moving very well. She's able to get back to the jab and circle, avoid being cut off, stay in open canvas and revive the war of movement. Britney counters by reversing strategy and going into the pocket for the first time. Alba's seen this game before, and knows just what to do. She assaults carefully, and doesn't allow Spears to simply lie on the ropes for the entire round. She backs toward the center of the ring, forcing Britney to come out at play. Spears does so, carefully, not getting baited into chasing Alba, always looking to get back to the ropes, while Jessica's always looking to bring the fight into space. Again, it's good, tactical stuff, just like the first. There's not a lot of work getting done. Oh, both fighters land punches, but this is more about movement and terms, a war of maneuver. As a result of both the tactical nature of the round and the fact that neither fighter gets the terms she wants, it's a close one claimed by Alba, who now leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Alba's gotten a talking to in the corner about engaging Brit on the ropes, and it's taken. She's circling and jabbing, legging everywhere, making Spears chase. Britney again does so halfheartedly, plodding after Alba, keeping the gloves high, basically playing the bull to Jessica's matador. Alba's always on the outside, circling, the ropes behind her. Britney's always in the center, turning, Jessica between her and the ropes. These are Alba's terns, no question of that, and Jessica takes full advantage, pilling up touches and points and Spears turns with. In the second half of the round, however, Spears gets aggressive, bouncing forward, cutting Jessica off, crowding her, forcing several of the heavy exchanges of the second round, and, once again, those trades go Britney's way. Alba is forced back, trapped along the ropes and then NAILED with a hard right hand that wobbles the legs! That quickly, Jessica's in trouble again, but, just like in the second, the slick veteran shows her defensive skills, blocking, slipping, rolling with, keeping the guard high, leaning back in the ropes as far as possible, running clock and surviving the round. It's Spears wide again, just like the second, but, again, Alba's still standing and the fight is even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Spears has the advantage and she's determined to press it. She's not just testing Alba's legs this time, she's going for the kill. Alba gives ground, still moving well, even with the legs, perhaps, not all the way back. Jessica jabbing, circling back and right away from Spears' power. Britney determined, working the feet hard, cutting the ring, closing at every opportunity and going to work. She's banging body now in a big way, looking to get even more into the brunette's legs. Alba keeping moving, however, consistently slipping away quickly every time Spears manages to cut an bring her to battle. Again, it's good tactical stuff from both fighters, but, all that goes out the window instantly a little over a minute in, and, again, it's the heavy hands of Spears that play. She shakes Jessica with a right hand, stopping her cold, follows with a left hook that wobbles the knees, and finishes with a right uppercut that sends the brunette crashing to her back. And that's where Alba stays, staring up at the referee, well past the count of ten. It's over! And your winner by KO5 in heavy-handed fashion is Britney Spears!

AFTER:

Spears all gorgeous smiles. She's gotten that 2006 win back from Alba, and, more than that, run off a second straight victory following that tough, one-point title fight loss to Claire Holt. "That was fun," she says with a grin, lovely face glistening with sweat, chest still heaving. "I knew she'd do a lot of moving in there, and, while I have a reputation for not liking to chase girls, mainly because I don't, I can and will, and you just saw what happens when I catch them."
