ANOTHER IFFI PROPOSITION AT THE ASYLUM

BEFORE:

"This is a huge fight for me," says Ksenia with a nod. "Stewart's top twenty. She's had long winning streaks. She's fought for the title. She's a girl that, when you beat her, they have to take you seriously. And, they'll be taking me seriously after tonight."

"She reminds me a little of me," says Kristen. "She's a smart girl. Knows her strengths in the ring and plays to them. She won't get sloppy and make mistakes. You'll have to out fight her to beat her. And, that's exactly what I'm going to do."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Black Velvet' by Alannah Myles, and here comes IFFI's own Ksenia Solo!"

McCarthy: "I absolutely LOVE IFFI, mainly because they are the one stable that consistently comes in here and whips Weirdo and his Dancing Hookers..."

Cassie: "Um. If I'm not mistaken, Bazz holds its own with Front Street pretty well..."

McCarthy: "Bazz is..."

Tess: "I might stop right there, Mac. Unless, of course, you'd like to find out what Cassie's been working on in her workshop..."

McCarthy: "That Poindexter Del Rio actually built her a WORKSHOP?"

Cassie(coldly): "If you MUST know, UNCLE WIZ built me a workshop at The Manor..."

O'Dell: "Solo into the ring and helped off with the robe by the IFFI ring crew. She's wearing a black number and sporting an in-shape body the crowd appreciates..."

Tess: "I've been in that workshop, and I'm not sure NASA has that many tools..."

O'Dell: "And, speaking of tools, that's 'Helter Skelter' pounding through the arena, and here comes the FCBA's biggest Beatles fan, 'The Five-Tool Player', Kristen Stewart..."

McCarthy: "And, unless she's carrying a hammer, a couple of screw drivers, and two wrenches in the pockets of those robes, I don't know what 'tools' she has..."

Tess: "Kristen, of course, is at the top of the flyweight pecking order at Front Street..."

McCarthy: "And, as I've said before, that's like being on top of the Mid-American Conference..."

O'Dell: "And, we got about ten thousand complaints about that, and, in light of those and Toledo knocking off Arkansas, how about you knock it off! Stewart into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel an Neve to reveal that lime green number she prefers. And, we're about ready to go, so it's time for some picks. Tess favors Kristen. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Well, unlike MOST of the girls who come here, this Solo kid has a couple of FCBA wins, so, despite the fact that she's a lot smaller than her sister, Hope, I'm going with Kerinia in an upset..."

O'Dell: "It's...neverMIND. Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Split panel. Let's find out who's right. Solo looking to close early here. She's giving up a little reach to Stewart, looks to want to come to middle distances. Stewart, though, accurate with that left hand, keeping Solo out on the end of her punches, where she wants her. The Latvian lovely slipping and dipping, working back in counter..."

Cassie: "This is the thing with Stewart. She's tall for a fly, not as tall as, say, McCord, but, still tall for the weight. So, what you normally want to do is penetrate the defenses and work either inside or at your range. But, she's so accurate, so precise, you have trouble doing that..."

O'Dell: "And, we're seeing that from Solo right now. Kristen just controlling the temp with the jab. Neither girl all that busy this round, doing a lot of the tactical feeling out you'd expect in the first stanza, but, right now, Kristen's having the better of things..."

McCarthy: "The way to beat this Stewart kid is to get physical with her, like Hayek did..."

Cassie: "Used to be the thought. But, a lot of girls since Hayek have tried it. And, they've all failed. Including Hayek a second time."

McCarthy: "That's because they weren't physical ENOUGH..."

O'Dell: "Into the final 30 seconds now. Solo pretty slick here. She's able to counter effectively, sliding forward just a step to get in range after Kristen gets off. Stewart still fighting lead, but Ksenia holding her own in the counter. Showing some slickness on defense. Ten seconds left. One final exchange and there's the bell. Close round, but K-Stew."

Tess: "And, Stewart grabs the 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Pattern has been set quickly in this one. Kristen wants to use that 5'6" length and fight at range. Solo wants the middle distances and is working hard with the high guard and the head bob to slip in just a bit closer than Kristen would like. Both girls executing their plans well. Stewart getting the jab on very well now..."

Cassie: "And, again, this is the problem. You try to get past the jab and you keep eating it. Points pile up and you're open for right hands LIKE THAT ONE..."

O'Dell: "AND A BIG RIGHT HAND IT WAS! Solo wobbled, knocked back a couple of steps. Stewart forward now, backing Ksenia up, letting her have it with both barrels. Solo definitely hurt, covering up, backing up, taking some heavy leather mid-way through the second round..."

Tess: "Stewart surgical right now, Jenny. Everything leads to something else. She's got that straight left laser-locked on Solo, one after another landing. Dropping those hard rights in follow..."

O'Dell: "Solo on the ropes, both figuratively and literally now. Stewart throwing punches in bunches. Snapping back Ksenia's head a couple of times in that last flurry. Solo jabbing back in spots, but mostly covering, running clock, tying up now, just trying to get out of this one. Twenty seconds left. Referee breaks. Stewart back to work. Lands a solid right. Solo ties up again. Five seconds left. And there's the bell. Ksenia hangs on, but it's Stewart wide."

McCarthy: "20-18, Stewart after 2."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Stewart turning up the heat here in the third. She's coming forward on Solo, backing her up with hard right hands, clearly looking to finish now. Solo giving ground, countering in the odd spot..."

McCarthy: "I'm going to say this again. This kid has to punch for respect here. She can't keep fighting off her back foot..."

O'Dell: "AND THERE'S A RIGHT HAND COUNTER FROM SOLO and Stewart is BUZZED!"

McCarthy: "SEE? This is what you have to do!"

Cassie: "Blind squirrel. Nut."

McCarthy: "SHUT UP, SCABBO!"

O'Dell: "And, that quickly, things have changed and it's Ksenia on the offensive. Solo backing up Stewart now, letting her have it with both hands. Kristen keeping the guard up, giving ground slowly, jabbing back, trying to slow the Latvian lovely down, but to no avail. Ksenia's all over her trying to follow up on that keyhole right hand..."

Tess: "And, she's getting just a big sloppy, too, Jenny, but she's getting away with it. Stewart sticking to the defensive here, working to run clock."

O'Dell: "She is at that and she's doing it. Moving well enough to stay off the ropes, picking off some of Solo's punches, rolling with others. Ksenia landing some solid ones though, continuing to get points scored. Ten seconds to go. Stewart going to survive the round, but, at the bell, it's Solo in wide fashion."

Cassie: "And, Kristen's lead is down to one, 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "We're seeing a complete 180 from the start of the third here as the fourth gets underway. It's Solo looking to pressure and follow up on that big third round, but Stewart quickly putting a stop to that. She's got the legs back under her and the jab back on target. She's bogging Ksenia down, slowing her offensive..."

McCarthy: "And, Solo quickly adjusting. Not going to keep pushing when the front's been firmed up. Get back to the fight plan."

O'Dell: "And, she has. She's now bobbing the head again, weaving past the jab, stepping to middle distances and getting off. Solo having a bit more success with this in the fourth than she did in the first two..."

Cassie: "Might be getting more familiar with Kristen's defenses, or Stewart might be a bit off right now as a result of the last round. Likely a combination of the two..."

O'Dell: 'Whatever it is, it's working for Solo, though Stewart's having her moments as well. She IS getting the left home to set up the right hands, but Ksenia having more luck getting to her spots and landing in combination. Coming down the stretch and both girls getting plenty busy. Some nice exchanges happening in the final fifteen seconds, some of the best of the fight. BIG right hand Solo and Stewart responds with one of her own and there's the bell! Close. But, Solo."

Tess: "And, we're even at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Into the fifth and we've settled back to about where we were in the first. Stewart looking to range in that accurate jab, stop Solo out on the edge of her punches, where she can be picked up with right hands. Ksenia showing plenty of movement, looking for just that one step forward into good punching range..."

Tess: "Solo going to work on the body a little, here, Mac. What do you think of that idea?"

McCarthy: "I always like body work, Walmart, especially against a girl built like a boy, like Stewart is..."

O'Dell: "Kristen going downstairs a bit in response, then working right back up. This is good, back and forth stuff between the two talented young flys. Stewart getting into a bit of a rhythm now as we roll along. She's got that smooth, accurate offense going, but Solo continuing to move, pick off punches, slip others, get to her spots, and get off..."

Cassie: "Solo investing a little more in the body here. She's scoring some points there, no question about it."

O'Dell: "And, Stewart answering her upstairs. Kristen getting punches put together very well right now, but the Latvian responding in kind, refusing to go over to the defense and let Kristen fight lead. This is good, two-way stuff and again we're seeing some heavy exchanges in the final seconds. Big flurry from Stewart and Solo fires right back and there's the bell. Close round. K-Stew this time."

Tess: "48-47, Kristen."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Second half underway with Solo in a high guard, dipping and slipping, working inside now and going body on Stewart. Kristen responding in there, and both girls doing some serious digging downstairs. Ribs being ripped, tummies being tenderized, plenty of leather thumping flesh right now..."

Cassie: "Not surprised to see this. This is what Solo did against me earlier this year..."

Tess: "We haven't mentioned this yet, Cassie, but, having fought Ksenia. Are you surprised by how competitive she's been against Kristen?"

Cassie: "Not at all. This is a girl who can fight. She took some rounds against me, and you don't do that unless you can fight. Thing is, she's only been in the ring six times, so people forget about her. But, she's the furthest thing from a pushover."

O'Dell: "And, she certainly isn't looking like one right now. She's crowding Stewart a little now, changing the dynamic of this thing in a big way. We're no longer at long or even mid-range, we're toe-to-toe, banging body and working our way upstairs only to go right back down again. Kristen standing right in there with Ksenia..."

McCarthy: "And, this is another example of the weakness of the Front Street corner. She needs to be working for space out there, not fighting the way Solo wants to fight."

O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in round six. Ksenia getting some serious body work done in this frame. Stewart holding her own pretty well, though, she's willing to grind in here if that's what the Latvian lovely wants to do, and, it most certainly is. Ten seconds left. Solo with a nice hook to the ribs and Stewart a HARD right hook to the head that got the IFFI beauty's attention, and there's the bell. Solo's round."

Tess: "57 all with four to go."

ROUND SEVEN:

O'Dell: "Solo right back to work. She's working past Stewart's glove in that high guard, rolling the head and shoulders, stepping forward, closing on the younger woman and going to work body. Solo getting off with both hands once she gets inside, and Stewart again responding in kind. Kristen not interested in renegotiating terms at the moment..."

McCarthy: "And her corner, which should have been telling her to do that between rounds, did nothing of the sort, proving again that they know nothing about boxing at Front Street..."

O'Dell: "Good right hook from Ksenia as she works up and then back down. Nice left hook in response from K-Stew, backs Solo up a step and STAGGERS HER WITH A RIGHT HAND! Stewart a right hand and Solo is hurt! Kristen backing Ksenia up now with a blizzard of punches and DOWN GOES SOLO! Another straight right at the end of that flurry and Ksenia down on her back!"

Cassie: "That first right was brutal. The second was down right NASTY..."

O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Solo rolls to her belly. Gets to her hands and knees. Seven. Ksenia trying to push to her feet and collapsing back to the mat at eight. Nine. TEN! It's over! Solo still down on her belly and it's over! And your winner by KO7 is 'The Five-Tool Player' Kristen Stewart!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Kristen Stewart, and Kristen, this was no walk in the park tonight..."

Kristen: "Didn't expect it to be. This girl is a good fighter. All she needs is work, and people will see that. She knows what she's doing in there. She can hit. This was always going to be a challenge for me. But, like all the rest of them, it was a challenge I was up to."

Tess: "There's talk that after Leighton beat McCord, she might be top of the pecking order around here now..."

Kristen: "Don't know where that talk's coming from, but it's not coming from Front Street. I'm the top fly around here, and that's not likely to change any time soon."
