BEFORE: The two veteran singers delivered a hard fought combat capped by Jessica Simpson's vintage knockout but we finally move into the CW shark pool next with Shenae Grimes looking to justify her high prospects against the Vampire Diaries main heroine Nina Dobrev. Some experts were surprised to see Grimes challenge the Lookout! stalwart after just a single FCBA outing to date - allthough that was a solid KO destruction of Foxfire Boxing's Adelaide Kane back in July - however the feisty Canadian indicates she truly wants to emulate her 902010 co-star Jessica Lowndes' feat and simply steal the whole show as quickly as possible before any "meaningless ####s" will target her as a perfect journeywoman victim.
Indeed, Grimes is not official member of the Lioness Club but as a former Lowndes co-star she was invited to take part in the Stable War as the two Canadians promise to create a fearsome tag team in the future with the former flyweight and JMD champion Lowndes leading the charge. Nobody knows is Grimes ends up mocking Catherine Bell's "dagger in the back" treatment of Charlize Theron but for now the girls are riding the same boat and Grimes believes she will cause THE upset of tonight's card by plain knocking Dobrev out!
Nina Dobrev wears a red basque top, black knickers and red gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Shenae Grimes wears a silver bikini top, red knickers and black gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a high ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
If Shenae had any plans to jump the gun on Nina she's in for a rude awakening since the Lookout brunette simply tears into her from the bell earning immediate applause from the MGM Grand crowd; steady body punching has the Canadian covered up and rendered to the spot all the way through the opening minute before a response up high finally marks a proper arrival in the ring. However Nina's too experienced to be bothered by such a half-hearted display and she whoops Grimes to the body thereafter again and reels her on the heels come the two minute mark. She launches a series to the chest slicing the earmuff guard and rocks the Canadian's head with nasty uppercuts to sign off the dominant round. Nina's no Addie Kane alright and if Shenae had any doubts before, she most certainly doesn't have them anymore.
Round 2:
Jessica Lowndes is still back in the locker room but someone needs to tell her to get up there and help her 902010 co-star since Dobrev simply resumes the harrassement of the Canadian rookie and snaps her head backwards time and time again with well placed hooks. Shenae's on the run quickly in the second and she can't close the fellow brunette down whatsoever and is schooled in mid distance. She can be thankful that Nina doesn't seem so keen on a swift knockout drill here but rather poised to methodically wear her down and destroy her fighting spirit. It's all Dobrev for remainder of the round, the sheer ammount of punches delights the crowd itself and the weak single hand response only grazes Nina's flesh. She fails to punch Grimes back to the ropes in her wholesale pursuit but still sinks her with a late flurry on the guts after which Shenae looks to be hurting already.
Round 3:
Still no Lowndes in Grimes' corner but there's a welcomed change in her attire as she cracks a solid hook on the eye to open the third before drilling a nasty series on the midsection to slow Dobrev down in her tracks for the first time tonight. Shenae finally enforces the close range assault and spikes the ribcage to the point Nina tries to shove her away but suddenly eats an uppercut on the chin and has to yield real estate. Grimes doesn't jump after her and the pace of the fight slows down for a while; Nina's urged to keep the pressure on but Shenae's fast across the canvas to avoid the mid range assault and after the Lookout girl swings wide from the left, she catches her with another big right hook on the mouth and terminates any further aggression. Nina shakes her head and checks for potential blood marks - there aren't any - but she's been iced out from the looming whitewash and allows Grimes to pump herself across the chest once the clock expires.
Round 4:
More of the same in the fourth; Dobrev tries to stick in the mid distance but doesn't improve her agility across the boards and allows Grimes to counterpuncher her during the opening minute albeit without much punishment being enforced; peek-a-boo tactics follow and indicate that the Canadian has spend some time in a professional gym rather than scribbling among the fellow free agents... finally Dobrev realizes she's not gonna make Shenae blow her gasket and ignites more pace into her stance only to suffer more counterpunching woes against the odds; Grimes is truly brave - not crazy brave though - and unleashes a facial assault that tags Dobrev's face far too often for Paris Hilton's liking, the response is equal to the bone but even when Shenae's ponytail begins to fly around, she refuses to buckle and both girls trade plenty of leather in the middle of the ring until the bell - without a meaningful breakthrough - which gives more credit to the 902010 brunette rather than her experienced opponent.
Round 5:
Both girls look a little sore with a couple of lumps here and there on each face but the fight doesn't lack any spark whatsoever and Nina blitzes her foe with a quick left/right combo that dissects the guard early in the fifth and has the Lookout! brunette snapping Shenae's head with a series of uppercuts. The Canadian bellows out into a deep cover and tries to hang in there but when Dobrev bends her with a looping jab around the elbows she has to jump away into more mid distance misery. Because Nina truly dominates that area and has the newcomer rocking and reeling in frantic escape while catching her on the fly and ripping more facial shots for remainder of the round. Even Missy Peregrym looks impressed and makes clear gestures to Cassidy Freeman sitting beside her that Shenae should have bought some brains before challenging the Vampire Diaries brunette. "It's not over!", Cass responds with a steely look in her eyes but when she glances over at the ring again she can only see Nina thumping Shenae's guts and finally trapping her on the ropes amid a wild MGM Grand applause. Bell halts the Lookout! rout shortly afterwards and Grimes aches loudly as she walks slowly back to her corner while Nina punches the air in delight!
Round 6:
More heavy leather to start the sixth; Nina seeked another blitz but Shenae had similar ideas on her mind and both girls waste no time into punching each other upstairs looking for a permanent breakthrough; Grimes behins to buckle first but then swings the monster right on the nose and makes the Lookout! brunette squeal in pain before driving a follow up on the solar plexus that bends her forward. Shenae comes out on top of that exchange - it makes no difference to the audience - and rips a series on the ribcage while Nina hoovers low on her feet trying to clinch the 902010 main cast. However when she lifts her head again, she gets whacked by a drilling series of jabs and is subsequently punched back to the ropes where she must soak up furious Canadian leather; Grimes shows no signs of fatigue and buries her opponent in deep earmuff cover that has Cassidy Freeman nodding her head back at Missy Peregrym and perhaps this fight will see the full distance as both girls have displayed a massive punching resistance thus far with neither of them visibly emptied after six rounds.
Round 7:
Dobrev looks a little confused there's so much left in Grimes' tank but vows to keep the aggressive stance and seeks immediate success by jabbing at Shenae's face. If there's one thing that the Canadian needs to learn, it's the fact some girls will never flame out at any stage of the fight and one has to punch all the stuffing out of them to secure the win. Nina's that kind of a girl and while Grimes might have hoped for a little breather, she's under the cosh in the opening minute and allows Dobrev to smack her around and drive a gutwrenching hook on the liver area half way through the round. Nina bumps the Canadian off with a close range stalking and now that she has her on the back foot, she peppers the ribcage and reels her onto the ropes on the two minute mark. Just one blip in Shenae's trashy attire claims a heavy prize as Nina romps away to the gut and freezes the hitherto impressive newcomer in the corner before stepping back and throwing bombs upstairs that shatter the guard and add a couple of lumps on each cheek. Grimes begins to scowl in pain but fails to tame the onslaught and eats a big hook on the nose right at the bell that shuts her eyes and has Nina shaking her glove in delight with Peregrym and Freeman exchanging more signals in the VIP lounge.
Round 8:
Shenae blasted Adelaide Kane out in eight rounds but she wasn't under so much pressure then and Nina is the heavier puncher anyway so suddenly she looks shaken up after that vintage Lookout! rout in the previous round. She tries to bide her time in mid distance but Dobrev had it covered all night long and swings around the temples with ease to keep the Canadian ducking and weaving until one shot tags the left brow ridge and wobbles her back onto the ropes... Shenae's too slow to raise her arms and fails to protect herself when the Lookout! girl simply tears into her lips and adds a quick uppercut on the chin to shut her eyes again... Grimes wobbles forward again and meets another heavy uppercut on the jaw that's finally too much for her to handle... SHENAE GOES DOWN ON HER KNEES and the crowd errupts in joy! Nina quickly struts back to her corner not expecting her foe to rise again but Grimes is truly brave here and somehow beats the count at eight even though she lacks that feisty spark in her eyes... she's good to go according to the ref but the Dobrev pounce hits full metal jacket mode and a flurry of punches twists Grimes' head back & forth and sends her bouncing off the ropes into a coup de grace right hand on the temple THAT SENDS HER TUMBLING DOWN IN THE CORNER... the head slumps by the left shoulder and the ref spares everyone the count after the second knockdown within twenty seconds made it all clear... KO8 Nina Dobrev!!!
AFTER: That was a truly bold effort from the 902010 heroine which should help her to justify the FCBA selection. Getting on board thanks to simply sharing the same TV set with Jessica Lowndes is one thing but an outright boxing performance is something else and while it doesn't bother Paris Hilton & Michelle Trachtenberg much, Missy Peregrym acknowledges the LCA's job on bringing the Canadian free agent up to the task:
"That was a good one, Cass! It seems like Grimes will stay active for a little longer!"
"You bet she is! Though she's not our immediate concern. We don't have like 18 fights on the roster like they have in Philly so we need all the sparring help we can get. And it only helps Selena Gomez too! This Grimes kid is a steal!"
"You better hope she doesn't get ahead of herself or Lowndes will have her thrown out!"
"No worries there, Missy! Jessica gets the top billing but it's MY gym after all... there's Eva Mendes and me, you know... and now that Claudia's on board we've got it all covered!"
As impressive as Shenae looked out there against Nina, she still needs assistance to get back to the locker room where the mystery of Jessica Lowndes' lack of support during the actual fight is revealead... it turns out Lowndes and Hudgens encountered each other a bit sooner than expected and engaged in a classic face slapping and hair pulling catfight before they could be separated... and one thing must be taken for granted with Lowndes, eyeing Vanessa Hudgens into any sort of a contest will always take top priority regardless of the circumstances!
Final result: Nina Dobrev Def Shenae Grimes KO8.
