TESS VALMORE

First let me assure readers that the Tractorpull Representative at the stable war press conference was not me, but a stringer we use quite often in Vegas. I couldn’t be there because I was sent on a special assignment in Florida that prevented me from attending

The stable war went pretty much as expected. I was correct of six of the eight bouts I predicted. I missed the Cuthbert win and the Kardashian loss. I wish I could have seen the Strahovski/Yustman title fight in person rather than on video. It was a fight I have been pushing for months. The down side was that I really like both. In the beginning of the fight it looked like Yvonne was going to dominate, but a sixth round uppercut changed everything. Yvonne never recovered and Odette rampaged the rest of the bout gaining the decision. Like I said, I had mixed emotions. I was glad that Odette won, but sorry to see Yvonne lose,

I thought the MInka Kelly was sensational, but that was expected. The big shock to me is when someone told me that Lowndes had lost a JMD bout. Actually, it was a double surprise since I didn’t know that Hudgens could even get into one.

After doing the downsizing Front Street article, I indicated that there would be more. My next target was going to be Lookout. Well forget that, since there was a wholesale roster change after the fight. By the end of the night, Lookout was down to my number for members of a stable, which is six. Gone were Kardashian, Tisdale, Simpson and Lotz. The big surprise with Kardashian was not that she was fired, but that she got hired in the first place. Tisdale had been a disappointment. She never lived up the hype when she entered the FCBA, Simpson was going nowhere. To get to six a promising member had to go and thus Lotz was given her walking papers. She is promising and should be picked up by someone. Miss Ginny is probably looking a fighter who can win. Lotz would be a good pick up

The big shock of the night was Lioness picking up Minka Kelly. Kelly was coming off six straight wins and should be knocking on the door for a title fight. Despite claims to the contrary, she had to go when Cuthbert was made Managing Director. The two didn’t get along at all. Don’t believe that mutual stuff. Kelly was forced out and it is all to Lioness’s advantage. Cuthbert moving to managing director is a smart move. How much Paris knows about boxing is demonstrated by her record in the FCBA. She does have money though and a lot of it. So she owns a stable. No problem. She better off owning the stable and letting someone else run it.

The acquiring of Kelly by Lioness was huge. Now with Lowndes, Kelly, Yustman and Freeman, LCA now has a present champion, two who have held championships and a number one contender. All are in the top three or four in their divisions. Scherzinger and Mendes are now the weak links, but they have winning records. The weak link being more of age than ability. I realize Kelly is 35, but she should have several more good years ahead of her making her acquisition a great deal

Who won the stable war? As commented during the press conference by the numbers, Lookout won the stable war winning the majority of the fights but LCA walked away with a title and Kelly. Lookouts win covered one great night. Lioness acquisition should be a lift that could last years.
