WITCHES, PUMPKINHEADS AND BLACK CATS III: HALLOWEEN AT THE ASYLUM

BEFORE:

"Obviously, I'm excited," says the masked girl in the evil queen costume. "This is a big opportunity for me, and I plan to take full advantage of it."

"Well," says the masked Cruella De Vil, "Glad to hear she can't wait to get in the ring with me. Because, I can't wait, either."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Fear The Dark', by Iron Maiden, and our evil queen is on her way to the ring."

Cassie: "Again, has to be a lightweight. She's got to be 5'9" or 5'10". Not thick enough to be a welter, though."

Tess: "We've already seen one model tonight, and by the look of that walk, we may be seeing another..."

O''Dell: "The evil queen into the ring and helped off with the costume, and you are, indeed, seeing another model in that zebra-striped bikini, because that is the lovely Gigi Hadid, another 'Sports Illustrated' model..."

McCarthy: "What we need is a 'Playboy' vs. 'Sports Illustrated' card. Best of seven. I want Decker."

Cassie: "Did Mac just have her yearly good idea, Tess?"

Tess: "Might just have..."

McCarthy: "Shut up, both of you!"

O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, while you listen to 'The Ripper' by Judas Priest and watch our Cruella De Vil on her way down to the ring. That wig disguising the hair, so, we're not sure if we have a blonde or a brunette here..."

Cassie: "I have a pretty good idea who that is, though..."

O'Dell: "I think I do as well. Into the ring and helped off with the costume by Jewel and Neve, and in that familiar navy blue bikini is 'Six Feet Of Sexy', Kesha!"

Cassie: "Go ahead, Mac..."

McCarthy: "No! I refuse to say it!"

O'Dell (sighing): "And, the ladies are about ready. Let's get some picks. Tess?"

Tess: "Kesha is heavier and, no doubt, has more power. That will be the difference."

O'Dell: "Mac?"

McCarthy: "I don't think much of Kesha, but even she can beat this beanpole tyro..."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "And, we're underway, and I don't think there's going to be much mystery about the terms here. You have two tall, rangy fighters, and both want to do the gun platform stuff, fight at range where they can extend on their punches. Hadid showing excellent footwork, good quickness with those feet. She's angling, moving, not letting Kesha get a bead on her..."

Cassie: "No surprise that Gigi's proving to be plenty athletic. She was captain of her high school volleyball team. She's definitely an athlete."

McCarthy: "Where are you getting all this nonsense, Scabbo?"

Cassie: "Again, right on the tablet Uncle Wiz provided us. If you used yours, you'd notice that, as soon as both fighters are in the ring, a file is sent to us with all kinds of pertinent information..."

McCarthy: "Propaganda, more like..."

O'Dell: "ANYway, Gigi using that athletic ability pretty well right now. She's got the geometry she wants, the distance, the angles, she's getting off pretty well, landing not just the jab but right-hand follows as well. Kesha getting som punches home as well, but not as accurate, not scoring quite as much."

Tess: "And that's down to Hadid, who's making a very difficult target right now."

O'Dell: "Kesha staying patient. Working her feet, trying to square up. Far removed from the wild swinger we used to see when Big K was in the ring. She works the right jab, moves the feet, always looking, though, for an opening for that big overhand left. Not going to find one in this round, though. Ten seconds left. Hadid a good combination. Kesha lands a good left hook, and there's the bell. Gigi claims the first."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Into the second now and Kesha looking to step to. She's cutting the angles by closing, not to middle distances, but, just slightly, a step, and that's enough to change that geometry we've been talking about. Kesha able to get the angles she wants, get the right on and the left home. Hadid giving a little ground, but Kesha immediately taking it back with a long forward step..."

Tess: "Quick adjustment from Kesha, and we'll see how Gigi reacts. This is something young fighters often struggle with, Mac..."

McCarthy: "Absolutely. They're OK as long as things to go plan, but, when something changes, they can get in trouble, because they just don't have the experience to know how to react."

O'Dell: "And, we may well be seeing some of that now. Gigi giving ground, getting backed and squared. Getting dangerously close to those ropes, and she does not want to be there..."

Cassie: "Her corner's shouting that at her. Stay off the ropes."

O'Dell: "And, she's managing to do it. What she's not managing to do is get much leather on target. In fact, she's not throwing much at all, and what is coming back at Big K is coming off the back foot. Hadid in retreat, getting touched way too much right now, spending too much time backing and covering. Ten seconds to go in the second. Good right-left from Kesha and there's the bell. Kesha's round."

Tess: "And, we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Back to action and Hadid making that adjustment Mac talked about and it's a double-tap jab. She's getting a pair of lefts out quickly, slowing Kesha's forward motion..."

McCarthy: "She heard this from her corner between rounds, and she's executing it pretty well."

O'Dell: "She is. Kesha not able to take that quick forward step and cut the angles now, as she's dealing with more leather. The Front Streeter responding by remaining at range and boxing, and these are the terms Gigi's more comfortable with..."

Cassie: "But, you can see Kesha's adjusting, too. She's matching footwork pretty well right now, getting Hadid squared up a lot better than she did in the first round."

O'Dell: "No doubt about that, and, as a result, we're seeing our first two-way round of the fight, with both women getting off pretty well, both scoring with both hands."

Tess: "I'm impressed by Hadid's quickness, Jenny. Not just the feet, but the hands and head, too. She moves extremely well for a lightweight."

O'Dell: "No doubt about it, and that movement adds up to a pretty good defense. And, as we come to the final seconds of this one, that defense is the difference. There's the bell, and, it's close, but Hadid claims the third."

Tess: "And leads 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Kesha wants to pressure a bit now. She's walking through that double-tap jab, wants to take canvas, force Gigi to retreat, get her going backward and set up that big left hand. Hadid trying to hang in there, doesn't want to give up canvas, but being forced to in spots, and Kesha taking immediately, cutting the angles, getting some heavy leather on..."

Cassie: "This is the power difference between these two. Gigi a lithe, athletic light. Kesha much sturdier and with as much power as any lightweight in the FCBA..."

McCarthy: "Except Palicki, of course. NO lightweight has the kind of power Adrianne Palicki has!"

O'Dell: "But, Palicki's not in there tonight, and there's no question about which of the two fighters who ARE in there has the most pop. Kesha stepping in, forcing Hadid back. Gigi giving a little ground, careful to stay off the ropes. Kesha a good right-left and GIGI ROCKS HER! Hadid a right hand and Kesha wobbled! Gigi immediately letting the hands go and DOWN GOES KESHA! Big K dropped to hands and knees!"

Tess: "She might not have as MUCH power as Kesha, but she clearly has power..."

McCarthy: "She says right AFTER a girl gets a knockdown. She said Secretariat was fast right AFTER he won the Belmont, too."

Cassie: "Tess wasn't ALIVE when Secretariat won the Belmont. UNlike someone ELSE in this booth..."

McCarthy: "You LITTLE..."

O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Kesha looking up at the referee. Going to take every second she can get. Eight. Nine. And she's to her feet in time to beat it. Referee gives Big K the mandatory and waives Gigi forward. Hadid a buzzsaw right now. Kesha the one giving ground. She's keeping the gloves high, backing into the ropes, where she settles on the defensive. Ten seconds left in the round. Gigi throwing everything she's got at the Front Streeter, but won't get her out of there in this round. There's the bell. Hadid bouncing back to the corner after a huge round!"

Cassie: "39-36 now for Gigi. Still early, but that's a nice lead."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Into the fifth now and it's the tyro who's now pressuring. Gigi coming forward, forcing Kesha back. Big K clearly still a little buzzed from the last round, not sure of the legs right now, staying on the defensive. Hadid showing plenty of caution, though, heard all about the dangers of getting too aggressive in the corner between rounds..."

Cassie: "This is another place where young fighters can struggle, walking the line between cleaning up effectively and taking too many risks."

O'Dell: "Hadid walking it pretty well right now. She's slowly backing Kesha up, using that long left to set up the big rights. Kesha willing to go to the ropes, and that's where she ends up. She's keeping the guard high, jabbing back with the right hand in spots. Gigi, however, mostly keeping her suppressed."

McCarthy: "This really is excellent stuff from this girl. Just 20 years old and in her first FCBA fight, and it's not too big for her."

O'Dell: "Doesn't look that way. Hadid keeping the steady pressure on. She's dominating this round as Kesha's basically a counter-puncher now, not doing much offensively save the odd jab when she gets an opening. Hadid getting both quantity and quality of leather home. Twenty seconds to go in the fifth. Gigi an EXCELLENT right hand, but Kesha took it without issue. Five seconds left. And there's the bell. Gigi wide in the fifth."

Tess: "49-45 at the half, and Kesha's in quite a hole right now."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Kesha in a hole and Gigi trying to keep her there. Hadid after the Front Streeter immediately. Kesha holding ground now, though, firing back with heavy leather and we're seeing a big exchange and then another! Both fighters landing some big punches and here's ANOTHER big flurry!"

McCarthy: "This kid doesn't need to DO this. No reason to stand and trade with Not-Six-Feet-And-Not-Sexy..."

Cassie: "I KNEW it was coming..."

McCarthy: "Shut UP, Scabbo!"

O'Dell: "And Hadid hearing exactly that from her corner. Being told to move her feet, getting back to angling up. And, she's taking that advice. Kesha confident in those long legs now. Moving her own feet, and we're back to that ranged boxing we saw in earlier rounds. Both women having some success here, both getting the jab on, Gigi the left, Kesha the right, and both able to follow on with the power hand in spots."

Tess: "You know, another impressive thing about Hadid is how she's handling a southpaw in her first FCBA fight. That can be a tough adjustment, no matter how many training rounds you put in, but she's making it."

O'Dell: "That, she is, and Kesha's made an adjustment, too. She's got the angles figured here, able to stay at range and get square without that forward step, and she's getting more leather on than she has in past rounds. Hadid responding well. Both fighters showing some boxing ability right to the bell. Close for Kesha."

Tess: "58-55. Hadid still in control>

ROUND SEVEN:

O'Dell: "Seventh begin with more ranged warfare. Both fighters moving the feet, getting to spots, letting the hands go. Both having success doing it, getting in good rhythms now, putting punches together very well. Still seeing good defense from both fighters, as well. Head and shoulder movement, good hand movement..."

Cassie: "And, as we've pointed out, this wasn't something Kesha had in her repertoire earlier in her career. She does now. And Hadid's got it right off the bat."

O'Dell: "Gigi a good combination there. Kesha fires back, lands a straight right and ROCKS HADID WITH A LEFT HOOK! Gigi wobbled and Kesha going after her immediately. Big K making with the heavy hands, backing the tyro into the ropes and pounding away. Hadid in that earmuff, rolling with, putting the body on sale..."

McCarthy: "And, Kesha should be buying here. She needs to bring that guard down."

O'Dell: "Looks like Big K would rather pound right through it, and that's what she's working on right now. Kesha HAMMERING at Hadid, getting a TON of power on these shots, trying to split gloves with the right to set up the left. Hadid hanging on, though, clinching now, getting shoved off, going right back to the earmuff. Twenty seconds left. Kesha wants some body NOW. She's hooking the ribs, and we can HEAR the sounds of those gloves THWACKING off Gigi's body even though they're on the other side of the ring. Five seconds. Good right hook, Kesha, and there's the bell. Hadid takes a licking, but she keeps on ticking."

Tess: "Kesha wide, no doubt, but Gigi still ahead 67-65."

ROUND EIGHT:

O'Dell: "Kesha after Gigi in a big way right now. She's shoving all the chips into the center of the table. Hadid willing to cede canvas as the Front Streeter walks forward behind that heavy right jab. First time we've seen this from Big K tonight, and, with Gigi's legs a bit iffy, it's working very well..."

Cassie: "Hadid not even attempting to hold canvas here, Jenny."

O'Dell: "She is not. And Kesha getting even more aggressive as a result of that lack of resistance. She's determined to get the big guns on Gigi and SHE DROPS HER! A left hook from Kesha and down goes Hadid!"

Tess: "She caught part of that on her glove and there was still enough power to send her to the canvas!"

O'Dell: "Gigi in a sitting position as the count reaches three. Four. Five. Six. Hadid going to beat it. Seven. Eight. And she's on her feet. Referee going to give her the mandatory and allow this to continue. Here comes Kesha! Big K looking to finish now, backing Hadid up with heavy shot from both hands. Gigi trapped on the ropes and taking again, like she was in the last round. Right hook shakes Hadid. Left hook and DOWN SHE GOES! Kesha drops her to her left side!"

Cassie: "That didn't land clean, either. But it did the job."

O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Gigi to hands and knees. Seven. Eight. Going to beat it again I think. Nine. And Hadid on her feet. Referee looking closely, but going to let this continue. And Kesha immediately all over Gigi. Hadid into the ropes, takes a hard right hand that wobbles her. Referee not going to allow much more of this. Left hook wobbles Hadid! Falls into a clinch. Kesha shoves off, lands a right hand, and there's the bell, and, amazingly, Hadid still on her feet!"

McCarthy: "10-7 round, though. And that puts Kesha ahead for the first time, 75-74."

ROUND NINE:

O'Dell: "Ninth begins with some slow foot movement and not much punching. Hadid keeping the guard up, still a bit wobbly from the last round. Kesha stalking, jabbing a little, not really doing much punching at the moment, trying to line Gigi up for the shot that will finish her off. The model moving the head and shoulders, keeping the feet going..."

McCarthy: "You might have two fighters who need to take a round off for different reasons. Hadid's taken a beating the last two, and Kesha has to be arm weary after all the energy she burned in those rounds."

O'Dell: "You might be right, Mac, because, after all the action of the seventh and eighth, not much happening here in the ninth, especially by comparison. The fighters are moving, there's some jabbing. Kesha landing the odd left hand follow, but neither getting a whole lot done as we roll past the half way point."

Cassie: "Both fighters seem to be trying to set up something big, like you said, Jenny, and I think that may be part of it, too."

O'Dell: "Could be, but, whatever the reasons, we're headed down the stretch in a tactical round that hasn't involved much exchanging of leather. Kesha effective with the right jab when she throws it. Able to land a follow-on left in spots. Gigi almost completely defensive now, keeping the hands up, and throwing nothing more than the occasional counter punch. Ten seconds left. And the ladies will simply let the final seconds tick off. Kesha's round."

Tess: "And that puts her up 85-83, meaning Hadid needs something big in the tenth."

ROUND TEN:

O'Dell: "Gigi now the one coming forward as we start the final round. Hadid snapping out that left jab, stepping in behind it. Kesha more than willing to back up, as she clearly knows what the situation is here, and that it's her opponent who needs to make things happen. And Hadid all about doing that. Throwing caution to the wind here, Mac..."

McCarthy: "I like this from the kid. She is here to WIN not just to SURVIVE. She knows she needs a two-point round here, and she's going all out to get it."

O'Dell: "Trouble is, Kesha knows it, too, and she's not having any. Big K backing into the ropes, putting the earmuff on, and leaning back, allowing Gigi to throw gobs of leather, while she picks off punches and rolls with others. Hadid landing some, mind, but a lot of this stuff is ending up on Big K's gloves."

Cassie: "Hardest thing to do in boxing is to force power. Gigi's finding that out right now."

O'Dell: "She is, indeed. Coming down the stretch and Hadid throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Kesha. Big K shipping what lands and jabbing back enough so that the referee doesn't think about stopping this thing. She's gone all defense and it's working for her, because the seconds keep ticking away. Ten seconds to go. Hadid a final right hand and there's the bell! Gigi's round."

Tess: "And that leaves our cards at 94-93, so, assuming we're right."

O'Dell: "Decision being announced, and we were right on, making your winner by UD10, 'Six Feet Of Sexy', Kesha!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore."

Tess: "I have our winner, Kesha, and, Big K, you got in a bit of a hole tonight..."

Kesha: "She caught me one and built up a nice lead, so I had to get pretty aggressive to get back in the thing. I don't have a problem with that, though. Like to let the big left fly."

Tess: "What's next for you?"

Kesha: "I'll be back in the ring before the end of the year. I'm liking this model thing. Maybe that's the direction we'll go."
