Before: 2 girls who can win a round without throwing a punch - doesn't bode well for slugfest fans, but purists are salivating at this match up. Diaz boxes with her legs, uses the ring, likes to lead with the jab - Liz more a counterpuncher, maybe heavier handed - she's more likely to stay in one place and make a girl miss. "It's intriguing," says savvy Cat Bell in her column for Celebrity Ring. "It's all about who can induce the other girl into making the mistakes, who can find a way to score. Both girls are take-away artists: someone's got to find a way to be constructive, make something happen." Hot fighters, big names, classy elegance in the ring. Cam in her new white surfing bikini from Angels2, wet hair, Liz in yellow sport bikini with white bordering, wet hair.

During R1: Cam bouncing, darting in and out, hands at waist height. Liz flat footed, chin tucked behind that right shoulder, right hand low, left up around her mouth, bending at the waist, rolling under Cam's jab. Diaz making a few strafing runs early - just tapping lefts and rights against Liz while dancing in, passing on the far side as Hurley wheels. Middle minute: Hurley lifting the jab off her hip, sliding back, luring Diaz forward then curling her body into a slinging counter left cross, following through into a deep crouch on the right side - DIAZ IS HURT! Cameron stepping in fence post holes - Hurley hopping in, dragging the back foot as she lashes Cam's toned ribcage hurtful right hands. Diaz backpedalling, palms out - she's palming and sidestepping, getting her bearings as Liz walks her down. Final minute - Diaz stops, bends into a sneaky lead right, following through in a deep crouch - HURLEY'S HURT! Liz's turn to recuperate under fire - she clinches, bogs the action down to the bell. Tricky stuff - Cam with just a few more touches, snags points in a see-saw first.

R2: Liz in that closed southpaw stance, touches Cam routinely on the flat tummy, sliding to the right, looking to turn into screened left hands. Diaz hanging around on the outside, trying to dart in off an angle, but Hurley has closed that door. Tactical second to Hurley as she steers Cam around the ring.

R3: Cam feathering Liz with jabs, then backing off - she's inducing the counterpuncher to come forward. Hurley tentatively cooperating, edging in, moving her head left to sling a right hand hard to the body, bending right to sling home sweeping lefts to the head. Diaz luring Hurley to the ropes, leaning back and away, making Hurley miss by inches, stabbing back at her with lefts and rights up off the thighs in rapid pokes. Darting back and forth culminates in Diaz landing a whistle-quick right hand straight on the chin, putting Liz wobbly butt and drawing more clinches from the canny Brit. Diaz savvy in the final minute, dancing away - she knows she's got the points so Liz has to follow: Hurley not as effective coming forward.

R4: Cam with that early brisk offense - nothing damaging, but a stabbing, slashing blur of lefts and rights scores points - Diaz can dance away, get Hurley coming forward to even the score. Harder Liz tries to get touches, the more Diaz picks her apart. Midway through, Liz trying to jab to Diaz' chest and turn into the left cross - Cameron feints Liz, feints her again and drops the straight right hand on the teeth - LIZ GOES DOWN! Hurley dropped straight back to her buttocks - biting on the feints and getting nailed - she slaps the canvas before getting up for 8. Diaz dabbing frisky with her jab, dancing away - Liz in a dangerous hole, continuing to press, forced to become a pressure fighter.

R5: Cameron Diaz undresses Liz Hurley. Diaz with a comfy lead, uses the ring, goes to the ropes, bats down on Liz' head and shoulders with open palms and spins out into open canvas - Hurley chasing, chasing, chasing. Diaz getting wince and flinch from Liz with feints - midway through, Cam striding right, fakes Liz into a defensive crouch, pokes that lead right hand onto the mouth to shake Hurley up AGAIN. Liz hurt, but Cam does the right thing - staying on her with the jab, not pressing to finish - Hurley turning with chin tucked, hoping for a Diaz flurry of risky power shots that never comes.

R6,7: Liz attacking the body on Cameron, has some success with straight left hands to the sternum and that constant licking righty hook under the elbow. Diaz resting on the ropes for the first time, looking to tie up head and arm on Hurley. Liz doing a nice job inside, getting her chin out over Cam's shoulder, licking punches against those body ribs with loose limbed power. Hurley leaning on Cam, hands low - she's pulling the shots up into Diaz to good effect these rounds.

R8: Diaz' been hurting Hurley all night with straight right hands - she gets to Hurley with a dart in the opening seconds, then nails her again as Liz tries to find her feet. Hurley busted up in the mouth, crouching low - Diaz slashes at the glistening lower back, putting wince on Hurley's tired face. Diaz feathering jabs and circling whenever Liz looks to bait a trap - Hurley just can't turn on a devastating power shot with Diaz sticking and moving. Beautiful Diaz discipline through 8.

R9: Diaz feinting, Liz reacting - Cam drops the left/right and shakes Hurley up again. Hurley trying to lean in and smother - Diaz bends back, picks her up with the right uppercut on the chin, then leans in close to pull the right thick to midriff. Hurley staggered, covering up and Diaz' taunting her. Cam sidestepping, batting Hurley in the back of the head to get her stumbling forward, then clapping her on the ass as Liz goes face first to the ropes. Diaz UNLEASHES - finally stepping forward and letting her hands go - and HURLEY NAILS DIAZ! Liz bending to the right, sweeping the counterleft flush to Cam's jaw - blonde legs give a spasm as DIAZ shuts down. Hurley wrapping up and wrestling her girl's back to the ropes - she HEAPS on to the body with those long, loving lashes to the waist. Diaz with clinches, walking Liz back - both beauties trembling with hurt and exhaustion as the ref breaks 'em up. Cameron back to her elusive stick and move, prodding Liz like a matador on a bull, getting Hurley coming forward - it's enough to give Cameron the best two way round of the fight.

R10: Liz jabbing with Cameron finally, bending at the waist, sliding back with that front foot in a bucket. End of the first minute - Hurley times her left juuust inside Cam's right, checking blonde chin and ducking low on the right side as Diaz steps in a pothole shabby. Diaz wilting to the ropes, dukes up - she's giving away her body and Hurley's taking it. Frothy action to the bell - Hurley crowding, hands low as she leans in, licking at the rigid midriff - Diaz clipping counteruppercuts and maintaining a tight guard around her fragile chin. Bell sounds - Cameron shoves Liz with a big, bold smile - comes back UD10 Cameron Diaz.

After: Hurley glum, bitter as her gloves are removed - in days to come she'll voice her discontent in British Maxim, claiming American judges robbed her, American media forced her to jump through too many hoops - on and on. For Diaz - a huge win makes her a people's champ type fighter for the first time in a long time. She shakes hands with Liz prefunctorily in the ring, but her words in post-fight are scathing. "I took Liz Hurley apart tonight," chirps the blonde. "Big showdown? I embarassed her with my legs, shook her up with my power. We worked so hard on making her come forward, making her uncomfortable in the ring - I out-thought AND outfought this woman!" Discipline the real key to Diaz' triumph - hurting Liz, but not pursuing her - deadly counterpuncher had very few opportunities to ply her trade and after falling behind early, had to take the fight to Diaz out of necessity. That's true ring generalship from Cameron Diaz.
