ABC MONDAY NIGHT SPECIAL

Pre-fight:
The first fight of the evening sees two One Tree Hill honeys meet in the ring for inexplicably the first time. Neither has found a lot of work nor success in the FCBA in previous years, and while Danneel Harris has not a lot to lose, Sophia Bush has everything to gain. Bush is searching for a career re-start and has a new stable behind her with which to achieve her goal.

Without a fight in almost two years and her last win recorded in January 2009, Sophia Bush is visibly contemplative before the fight. “This is arguably my most important fight yet. I know that. My boxing career never took off where I wanted, but I’ve got a new shot here and I’m going to take it. It’s important for me, and it’s important for ABC to get off on the right foot. I’m going to drop Danneel, put One Tree Hill behind me and move on with a new chapter. Tonight begins my fresh start.”

Danneel Harris finds herself in a similar position; with one fight in the last two years. That bout was also a loss. “Sure, I’m rusty, but so is Sophia. And I’ve won more recently than her. I know what I’m doing, and I’m going to make the most of the few opportunities I get. Sophia isn’t going anywhere. She’ll be a mediocre fighter forever. I’ll prove that tonight.”

Round 1:
Tentative start by both women, who are obviously getting a feel for being in-match for the first time in a while. Sophia with slightly crisper jabs as each tests her opponent, not wanting to overcommit. Sophia the first to brave beyond the jab and finds Danneel with a right hook to her ribs. Danni obviously feeling it, but responding with a hook of her own, landing flush to Sophia’s left side. Sophia back to jabs but mostly finding Danneel’s guard until Danni boldly attempts an uppercut. Sophia reads the move from miles away and blocks easily, replying instantly with a straight that finds Danneel’s chin. Danni reeling, but before Sophia can press, the round is brought to a close and both women take a seat. No worries for either fighter, but Sophia doing slightly more and now both have time to contemplate how to up the tempo in only their second round of the year each.

Round 2:
Sophia coming out more confident, but soon too much so as an ambitiously early overhand attempt leaves her wide open for another hook to the ribs. Danni with a second before Sophia is able to cover up and flash a jab to put Harris back on her toes. The two return to trading jabs, most finding guard, and the few that sneak through doing little more than motivating the other fighter to find the next way through. At the end of the second, both women still mostly unscathed but starting to huff a little bit, each clearly needing more consistent fighting routines for the good of conditioning.

Round 3:
Danneel trying to target ribs in the third, clearly wanting to get something done soon, a lack of conditioning effecting patience. Sophia smart enough to keep her guard readied for hooks to ribs and deflecting most while sneaking some cheeky jabs at the oncoming Harris. Danneel too keen to make an impact and Sophia finds a couple of crisp crosses to rosy cheeks. Danneel stumbling a little towards the corner, mouth breathing now after exerting herself, looking for heavy blows perhaps too early.

Round 4:
Danneel obviously feeling she needs to end it, comes out swinging in the fourth, putting everything into hooks that have Sophia reeling. Bush not with much time to find offense as her ribs are punished, Danneel alternating now to keep Sophia guessing, and often incorrectly. A dominant fourth for Harris as Bush plops in her corner grimacing and holding her side.

Round 5:
Danneel looking for more dominant hooks, but Sophia wise to it, moving swiftly and keeping Danni shuffling, wearing her out. Danni sees her gloves glance off Sophia’s sides once or twice, but it’s almost all Bush at the moment, who keeps countering with swift shots to Danneel’s suffering face and occasionally those heaving jugs. Sophia’s slightly better fitness coming into play as Danni slows and Sophia closes out the round with some heavy uppercuts that really rock Harris.

Round 6:
Sophia quicker again and Danneel almost tentative now, watching for those smarting uppercuts. Sophia wide, faking underhand before crosses to the temple, dizzying Danni. Redhead staggering until Bush flashes well-timed uppercut in second minute, laying Danneel out. Harris unable to find feet in time. KO6, Sophia Bush!

Post-Fight:
Alpha Boxing Club get the start they wanted with their golden girl Sophia Bush claiming her first win in just shy of seven years. Difficult to claim a turn of career against an equally struggling, rarely-seen Danneel Harris, but undoubtedly a necessary step for the ABC beauty, both in terms of confidence as well as dispatching an old rival and putting the past behind her. Sophia ready to move on it seems and work towards the respectable FCBA career she has always yearned for.

“This was the start I needed,” Sophia nods, proudly grinning. “My old OTH nemesis is dealt with and I’m moving on now. Come at me, FCBA.”

Danneel still shaking her head, breathing heavily. “She’s smarter than I remember. Quicker, too, and determined. Maybe she IS ready for more. I’m ready too, though. More work, fitness training, and I’ll have her number next time when she’s beaten back to earth and finds me in the lower rankings once more.”
