Before: Claire fattening up on untested Birch - former multi time champ looks to tune up, stay sharp in the evolving 110 landscape. "I'm going to work on some things with Thora," Danes breezes in prefight. "She's there for the taking if I box, but I'd like to do some punching, look for spots to hurt this girl and take her out. From what I've heard, Thora can give me rounds and I'd like that - I wouldn't mind running up a 10-0 rout on her at all." Birch muscling in alongside the likes of Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams and so forth - beating Danes out of the chute would be a hell of a kickstart. "I'm aware of the need to separate myself from the crowd," says media-savvy Birch in prefight. "Danes hasn't seen much of me, but I know this: I'll take her head off if I connect right. It's only going to take one punch to change Claire's life." Claire in plaid bra style bikini - Birch in pink lace push up and panties.

R1: Birch out pitching aggressively off the blocks - Claire forced into a deep crouch/swivel pivot left routine to string out the pressure. Danes nibbling her way back into the round in second minute - scuffing her jab atop Thora's head or busting her tart in the mouth, keeping Birch on her heels. Down the stretch, Claire goes into her trick-bag, shifting to southpaw, popping a wary Birch a lead left hand in the mouth, then ripping her a series of rubber-armed right hooks upside the head to stagger buxom lass to all fours. Claire lighting up the ring with a happy smile, joking with ringsiders in the neutral corner: she's having fun in the first as Thora takes a seething 8.

R2: Thora held at bay: Birch's mitts never leave her face as she turns sullenly, takes shots. Claire back to orthodox, scuffing and chiselling her jab, dropping in tasty right hands off the shoulder, swivel-pivoting left. Right away, more attention being paid to jug than is usual for Danes - she's clawing at Thora's bursting rack hooks, slapping backhand jabs against the front of the bra. Claire bright eyed, licking her lips suggestively as she steps and pivots outside - Thora's cheeks hot with shame as Danes samples the goods at will in the second.

R3: Thora getting off - good thudding stroke, but she's headhunting, not connecting much as a result. Danes staying low, tucking chin behind left shoulder and turning sharply left - always fighting off Thora's right side. Same preoccupation with Thora's sulking hooters - Claire getting there with saucy lead right hands, doubled up jabs and that cheeky hook-off-the-pivot. Danes grinning, lifting her mitts and strutting back to her corner at the bell: party is crashed when an enraged Birch shoves Claire hard from behind, sending her reeling forward. Ref engaged as tempers flare - Danes stamping her foot, obviously frustrated with Birch's competitive spirit.

R4: First minute - Claire dazzles defensively, slipping punches, luring Thora to corners then spinning round her. Birch loading up and hurling blockbusters - all for not - Claire making Thora look like a first-time beach bunny taking up the mitts on a dare. Second minute, Claire settles Thora down with that pesky jab - keeping it in Thora's face, occupying her, then thrusting straight rights to jug or teeth with pinpoint hate. Final minute, Birch unravelling - she's falling in, looking to get a body on Danes - Claire retreating in good order, helping herself to a smorgasboard of uppercuts and hooks - walking Thora into harm, then sidestepping. Bell: Birch glassy-eyed, wobbly butt - Claire gets in her face and reminds her who's show this is as ref moves in.

R5: Claire bending low in front of Birch - Thora with a clubbing right to the back of the head momentarily stuns elusive blonde. Danes reeling to her right, shaking her head - Birch steps-with and lands a hopeful wide hook on the face, scattering Danes to ropes. Birch hopping-to and hooking - she's catching Claire on the jaw, clapping away with repeat business, swivelling Danes' head - CLAIRE'S HURT! Crowd screaming as Danes leans back groggy into ropes, ducks just in time to slip a crashing right hand - Birch looking to excuse her tormentress with every shot. Thora getting wise, swabbing Claire's lowerback when she rolls forward underneath - Claire's face clammy with hurt as heavy-handed minx starts to chalk up connects. Birch bodying up, pressing Claire upright and mauling her - warnings for forearms on the face and throat, holding and hitting start to issue forth. Ref pulling Thora off and resetting the fighters - Claire dug in woozy at the ropes, but collecting herself - slick D starting to take the edge off the hurt. Rest of the way a series of Thora assaults as she wades back in after ref's breaks - Claire managing it with shoulder rolls, getting low and nudging Birch off by her hips, easing back into the ropes and guiding punches past. Danes out of the round and smarter for it: Thora can punch a bit.

R6: Claire all business - she's been treating herself to jug tonight because she thought it was on sale - now she focuses on the tummy, the ribs, the chin in order to break Birch down proper. Claire cutting into Thora's body with both hands sounding out CHUP! CHUP! CHUP!, roasting Birch with rolling combo's, sidestepping to turn her midring. Thora's eyes waxy, lips parted - she's being beat up by a champion now and both girls know it. End of minute two - a lengthy string of swatting, cuffing Claire lefts and rights proves too much - Birch stepping back several steps then easing breathless to one knee: rookie's got some savvy, forfeiting points to regroup as Claire looks down with disdain. Final minute, Danes moving in to hook Thora out of there at the ropes: Birch laying back in a high, rigid guard bangs back short hooks of her own, spurning the KO attempt with spiteful resistance. Bell: Claire chests up, eyes blazing with do-you-know-who-I-am fury. Birch snarling, clearly not sharing Claire's world view.

R7: Claire at Thora now - a constant gnawing attack. Birch slumped in the ropes, face in gloves - she can't get off, can't use her strength as Danes rains down both mitts in unpredictable patterns. Claire will show an angular belly-jabbing look outside - probing for openings, then come in hard overhand rights. Claire will lay in beefy, head to head, rolling combinations against Thora's tummy, often stepping out with a clawing hook across jug. Claire will feint, bend in with big right hands ticketed for temple: she'll lead the right, turn on the hook, then as Thora lays forward, Claire will bury that left hand behind Birch's right elbow. Constant lathering beatdown just too much - woozy Birch beaten to her knees once again, this time forced there by Claire's fists. Smug look of satisfaction Danes - she lingers in the vicinity, forcing ref to escort her to neutral corner.

R8: Thora shaking off the ref during the break: she wants to keep fighting. Claire bullheaded, trying to break Birch toe-to-toe - buxom Thora finally getting a stationary target she can work with. Girls in constant contact - faces rubbing, shoulders nudging. Claire more rapid, working in bursts to breadbasket: Thora looking to punch off the bump, packing thick right hands into Claire's body, shaking her. Thora the heavier handed minx, backing Danes to ropes - Claire never hurt or even forced onto the defensive - she's simply out hit as girls lay in to work.

R9: Claire stubborn, causing some concern in her own corner: she wades back in, wallows in the mire with Thora for three more minutes. Claire grinding her forhead against Birch's, struggling and waltzing with the bigger woman, but being more productive this round. Danes stepping around on this inside, making Birch move her feet - meanwhile Claire's tidying up that breadbasket with a busy two-gun tic-toc. Thora's output dropping, she's just laying in, crowding - Claire able to ease out and get right uppercuts off her right foot for free, picking Thora up clean on the chin.

R10: Claire puts it to Thora hard - committment to Birch's midsection paying off at last. Birch gasping, pushing at Claire and trying to disengage - blonde senses the hurt, the quit and the weakness - ups her tempo accordingly. Claire in there scrubbing, rubbing, tucking and digging - she's writhing her arms to stay clear of Thora's clinches, wearing Birch out at the ropes. Claire fighting off Birch's chest all squirmy - dangling the left hand to get ripping leverage on short right uppercuts inside, working bra and chin - bumping the left shoulder and whip-hooking Thora's tired midriff. All Claire all the time - poor Birch seated in the ropes and shipping the hurt, thighs trembling with the effort of keeping her upright. Danes rolling her shoulders, treating herself to a great gaudy romp to rack in the dying moments, beating a sobbing cry of outrage from a Thora Birch too exhausted and helpless to prevent it. Bell - Claire punctuates her efforts with a cheap right hand on the chin: left hand at her thigh, just turning her body into the shot as she moves to step away, leaving Birch rung up and dazed on the ropes. Comes back UD10, Claire Birch.

After: Thora showing guts, refusing an invitation to quit from the ref and rocking Claire on at least one occasion: there have been worse debuts. Danes tyrannical once she had the upperhand, tearing at Birch and never letting her rest - blonde working up quite a sweat tonight with a good-looking win.
