(Words: ABC / Results: Lookout!)

Pre-fight:
Sophia Bush’s confidence has to be on the rise after dispatching former co-star Danneel Harris and moving on to bigger fish. Those bigger fish include the incredibly charming Nikki Reed, who is still searching for her first FCBA victory.

Sophia looks calm pre-fight, sitting still, sipping on some water. “Beating Danni was important and I feel I’m ready to move on now. Nikki is a good challenge for me because while she hasn’t won at this level, she’s shown flashes of brilliance and she is 6 years my junior. I know she’ll be tough, but she’s the kind of fighter I need to be able to beat and there are plenty of women younger than me at the top, so the age challenge is a good thing to familiarise myself with sooner than later.”

Nikki is a different picture; eager and anxious, pacing the floor. “I need to get my first win sooner rather than later and there hasn’t been a better opportunity than this washed up would-be but never-was. She had potential once. Now she has broken dreams and dashed hopes. I’ll gladly give her some broken ribs and a dash in the ‘win’ column to go along with them.

Round 1:
Nikki is super keen to start and runs herself right into trouble early, swinging for the fences as if wanting to put her opponent away in the first, only to be countered by a fresh, calmly thinking Sophia Bush, who connects with Nikki’s chin a half dozen times and controls most of the first round. After being peppered and driven into the corner, Nikki is forced to cover and start fighting conservatively. Nikki’s midriff takes a beating in the corner and the starlet stumbles groggily at the end of the first, looking like she has already endured some five rounds. Sophia takes to her corner calm and focused, still looking as fresh as when she began.

Round 2:
Nikki more tentative to start the second, but she’s clearly still shaken up. Sophia leads the charge and a few jabs soon evolves into a wild exchange, the two beauties going clout for clout, Sophia alternating targets while Nikki seems intent on replying to chin. Sophia gets the better of the exchange and Nikki is staggered again when Sophia deftly sidesteps a straight attempt to follow up with a heavy hook just below the ribs. After two, Nikki is slumped in her corner, mouth-breathing and looking ragged. Sophia grinning from her corner, rubs her jaw gently to double check for structural damage, but she appears to be in top shape.

Round 3:
The tables turn with a sudden movement as Sophia’s blasting hook is met with more than just a grimace as Nikki returns a right that crashes along Bush’s jawline, staggering the ABC bantamweight. Nikki gets a second wind from the sight of Sophia struggling and she takes chase peppering ribs as promised pre-fight. Sophia gets the guard in place and absorbs most blows, but that wincing is a sure sign that the few that landed were certainly felt. Both beauties end the round hunched in their respective corners now, and we have a fight back on our hands.

Round 4:
Nikki perhaps needed jumpstarting by Sophia’s fists as she suddenly seems to have kicked into gear. A fake at chin sees Sophia’s guard quickly rise and the result is an open tummy that takes an absolute battering courtesy of grinning Nikki’s lightning fists. Sophia grunting and trying to cover only results in a glove finding the centre of her face, guard then moving again. Sophia reacting to each blow, but Nikki alternating and taking her apart piece by piece. From face, Nikki picks up heaving jug more than once, and Sophia looks miserable as the round comes to a close. Bush plops into her corner holding jug, grimacing, looking the opposite of how she did after the first two rounds.

Round 5:
Nikki gets greedy wanting more jug, but Sophia is determined not to give even a peek, obviously rocked from the shots of the previous round. Nikki tries faking, then even switching, but Sophia is in survival mode, shuffling her feet well enough given Nikki’s current sluggishness, and moving the guard appropriately. Round five almost negligible as sloppy offense meets desperate defence and Sophia, while looking too afraid to strike at much, manages to avoid being reefed again.

Round 6:
Nikki seems to expect the same from Sophia to start the sixth, but perhaps the clever cutie was playing possum. A rush from Nikki sees a happy-to-counter Sophia sidestep and throw hooks, railing Reed about the torso. The same exchange transpires a few times until Sophia switches to the right and blasts and uppercut that Nikki never saw coming. She never looks like making the count and Sophia finds a sneaky win; KO6!

Post-fight:
Nikki Reed unable to capitalise on some strong early offense and still looking for her first win as a result. Sophia Bush on the other hand picks up her second win in as many fights with her new stable, and has certainly given hope to fans that wanted to see her FCBA comeback be a successful one.

Sophia Bush’s face is halfway between a grin and a grimace as she has one hand at her chest in the post-fight interview. “My tit still hurts, and Nikki’s kind of made me nervous about entering the whole JMD competition thing, but I got the win and I know I’m up for a new challenge now. She’s tough, but I’m smarter, and you can’t teach that.”

Nikki looks clearly frustrated, hunched over in her seat. “I should have had her. I thought I did. So close to my first win, and then she just outsmarts me. I’m frustrated. I’ll get it on the next one… hopefully.”
