Results: Lookout     Writing: Archer
Claire:  27 YO, 5’6 ½ (1.69 m), 16-4-0 since 2012, Odds ‘N Ends Fight Studio.
Rachel: 37 YO, 5’4 (1.63 m), 44-32-1 since 2005, Foxfire Boxing.

Before:  “I have to say I was surprised to discover I had never had a bout with Claire,” Rachel McAdams smiling admits to the press in prefight. “I have been at this 10 years and there aren’t many bantams, especially former champions I haven’t fought. Now that time is here. I am looking forward to this. I feel am as effective as ever and testing myself against a young talent like Claire is the best way to prove that.”

Claire is smiling at her turn at the podium: “Yes, I had begun to think Rachel was avoiding me. After all, I have beaten three Foxfire girls—so far—Clare Bowen, Dani Fishel and Laura Vandervoort. I am so glad Rachel decided to challenge me. You just turned 37, haven’t you, Rachel?”

“November 17th,” Rachel says, “thanks for reminding everyone.”

“Sorry, didn’t know it was a secret. You shouldn’t be ashamed of it Rachel. You are in remarkable condition for 37 and I am sure I’ll have to be on my best game to beat you,” Claire chattered on as a red flush came to Rachel’s cheeks. “But I think my victories over Eliza Dushku and Britney Spears show I can handle veteran talent.”

“You forgot to mention losing to Elisha Cuthbert,” Rachel interjected.

“Yes, how careless of me,” Claire said, “I will not so careless in dealing with you.”

“Bring it on, Claire, I’ll be ready,” Rachel snapped.

“You’d better be,” Claire retorted and walked off the dais with a triumphant smile.

Fight night finds Claire strutting to the ring in a sensational halter top purple bikini, while Rachel has chosen a red and black one piece, cut high in the hips. Purple gloves and black boots for Claire. Red boots and gloves (black laces)  for Rachel. Rachel’s red-brown hair pulled back into a ponytail. Claire’s blonde hair in a tight battle braid. Claire smiling broadly at Rachel who looks increasing steamed at the Australian blonde’s disrespect. The glove touching turns into a shoving match as the taller Claire tries to force Rachel to back down. Referee has to jump and tell them to save it for the fight. Two go to their corners. Claire still smiling and Rachel looking angry. The bell rings.

R1: Rachel briskly across the ring and chipping away at Claire who seemed surprisingly defensive in her opening moves. Rachel just sending out probe punches striking at Claire’s head and body as she circles, looking very focused as she searches for openings. Then Claire suddenly fires out a series of punches striking Rachel in the ribs just under her arms. She circles and maintains a steady drumfire of attacks as Rachel lashes back with her jab while trying to evade the Australian’s fire. Rachel now driving hard hooks into Claire’s belly to disrupt her attack. Claire now resorts to evasive footwork and uses her jab to strike at Rachel’s chest, though Rachel keeps her head and face protected. Very steady action to the bell, but Rachel pulls ahead with a late flurry that causes the blonde to drop back and wins the round by a close margin.

R2:  Claire moving more quickly at the start of this round and she resumes her attack on Rachel’s side ribs. Rachel shifting, trying to get her flanks out of the line of fire, but also trying to maintain some pressure on the blonde through the use of her jab. Claire takes it in close seeming to interested in bringing punches up into Rachel’s belly and breasts, but then she hammers away at those side ribs again. Rachel trying to strike back up the middle, but Claire seems willing to take some body punishment as the price for roasting Rachel’s ribs. Again the action is close, but this time it swings Claire Holt’s way she wins her first round.

R3: Rachel catches Claire by surprise this round by suddenly going for her head. Blonde braid spinning around as Rachel’s right and left crack onto alternate sides of Claire’s jaw. Claire pulling out of range and circling behind her jab trying to shake off the fog in her brain. Rachel moving smoothly to cut off the ring and force Claire back to the ropes. Claire jabbing furiously to keep herself off the strands. Very intense action as Rachel goes all out to the body trying to drive Claire back and Claire resisting even as she steps slowly backwards. Then Claire makes a break for it, moving to the left around Rachel and throwing heavy haymakers into Rachel’s ribs before she can turn around. Rachel knocked back, but comes right back at Claire, cutting the blonde off and setting off another fierce battle in close, but she is never able to get the blonde pinned against the strands. Rachel and Claire both panting hard after the bell, but Rachel has emerged the close winner. Still there are some very ugly red splotches on Rachel’s flanks where her ribs have been pounded by Claire’s leather and she looks to be hurting as she sits down on her stool.

R4: Claire on the offensive this round and seems to be doing her best to force Rachel to the ropes. Initial attack is to the breasts and belly of the Foxfire veteran, but then the blonde starts circling and striking with an all-out effort at those ribs. Rachel trying to use her elbows to protect her ribs, but Claire is getting under them. Rachel then shakes up Claire with a sudden attack on her head and face. Claire gets leather stuffed into her mouth and nose, as well as her cheekbones smitten by Rachel McAdams rights and lefts. Claire forced on the defensive for a time, but then comes charging in from the side again trying to put more leather on those bruised and swollen McAdams ribs. Rachel grimly fighting her back keeping it close but Claire’s pressure mounting to the bell and allows her to grab the round for her column. Rachel trying to hide the damage her ribs have suffered, but sharp-eyed observers see her wince when the red-purpling flesh is sponged off during the break.

R5: Rachel trying to take the offensive this round, but it falters when a quick-footed Claire again roasts those ribs. Rachel trying to strike back at Claire’s head, but has to take heavy punishment in the sides for her efforts and finally just has to get out of range. However Claire is not about to let her quarry escape and she stays close, knocking Rachel’s head around, but still working those ribs. Rachel starting to shudder as the blows come hammering home and has to use distance rather than counterpunching to answer Claire’s relentless attack. This is not good for Rachel’s point total as Claire racks up her first wide points win of the night. Rachel gritting her teeth against the pain in her sides as she tries to walk back to her stool, but a stray tear or two is starting to roll down her cheeks. Worried consultation in Foxfire corner. Virginia Madsen, Rachel’s trainer doesn’t like what she’s seeing tonight, but her fighter is too proud to even consider quitting at this point. The little scene can’t be heard in the Odds and Ends corner, but Claire Holt is smiling like a great white shark closing in a wounded prey.

R6: Again, Rachel tries to turn the fight around by launching an opening bell attack on Claire, but Claire breaks it up with some solid jabs to Rachel’s face (payback shots to Rachel’s mouth and nose included), but then Claire makes another circling move and just pounds away at Rachel’s left side ribs. Rachel suddenly lets out a scream and falls to her knees arms wrapped around her sides. Crowd is stunned (and even Claire Holt stares at her fallen foe for an extra moment before retreating to neutral corner). Rachel drawing in shuddering breathes as the referee starts his count. Then with a great, courageous effort, Rachel rises to her feet and beats the count. Referee looks concerned but Rachel insists she can continue and the official waves Claire back in.  Rachel makes a desperate counterattack, a wild lunging right haymaker that would have taken Claire’s head off had she not ducked under it and then swung around to drive her right into Rachel’s ribs as they are uncovered by the wild punch. Rachel knocked to one side, her face contorted in pain and then a crunching left to her wide open chin drops Rachel onto her bottom. Rachel just sits there, eyes glassy, arms wrapped around her body and then bursting into tears as she hears the count go to “…TEN! YOU’RE OUT!!!”
The Winner: Claire Holt KO6!

After: Claire smiling broadly in victory. She’s not entirely unmarked having a swollen nose and lips from Rachel’s blows. May explain why she sheds her gloves and hops across the ring to drag a tear-streaked Rachel McAdams off her stool for a walk of shame. Rachel trying to be stoic but tears are flowing and Claire keeps stopping to wipe at them with a sneering look on her face. This all brings a mixed reaction from the crowd, but there are enough cheers to allow Claire to wave at her supporters even as she keeps her other arm around Rachel’s waist to keep her moving. Finally Claire shoves Rachel rudely into the arms of an angry Willa Holland who has climbed into the ring with Virginia Madsen.

“I think this was an historic fight,” Claire Holt boldly declares, “I showed Rachel McAdams and anyone else who was paying attention that she’s yesterday’s Foxfire bantam. I’ve beaten Vandervoort and Fishel. What does that leave them now? Willa Holland? Please! I may never have fought her, but all you have to do is look at her record and see she will amount to anything for Foxfire. So now I can happily concentrate on getting my title belts back. The Foxfire Bantam Menace is finished!”

“No she didn’t actually crack my ribs,” a sullen Rachel McAdams says the next day. “but they hurt like she did. I pride myself on my toughness, but I gave her too many chances to work those ribs while my counters were too defuse. Yes, she got a fat lip and big nose, but they were clearly something I should have worked on. If Claire Holt thinks she has seen the last of Rachel McAdams and Foxfire Boxing she is going to find out how wrong she is. We have no intention of rushing young Willa into anything just to shut up Claire Holt, but I can tell you Willa is plenty upset and she’s got what Claire said posted over her locker. You hear that Claire? All you’ve done is motivate Willa Holland!—And myself as well! This story about Claire and Foxfire is not over by a longshot!”

Claire’s singleminded attack on Rachel McAdams’ ribs certainly paid off for her in this fight. The action was back and forth much of the way, but the mounting damage finally caught up to Rachel. Could the younger blonde have hit a nerve and distracted Rachel by playing up her age? It’s an old trick, but it does work and just maybe it did again this time. The fans will just have to see as Claire is in a good position for future run at the bantam title while Rachel tries to recover from a loss that was clearly painful both physically and mentally. Her next fight could tell a lot about Rachel’s future.
