Comparison: Theron (238-102-12) 40yo, 5'9.5”, 128#; Beyonce (17-23-1) 34yo, 5'6.5”, 132#

Beyonce's camp hopes Tractorpull is right - that Theron's “worn out” and “over the hill.” Theron's fans pray Beyonce's still as ill-equipped to compete with Charlize as she was a decade ago when Theron “whupped her over-hyped behind” (twice)! Beyonce's had few FCBA bouts since 2005 (3-4) but her last three were KO wins (5'8” Victoria Amorosi & 5'7” Rhona Mitra). Her loss was by KO4, but it was to BBU Welter champ, Erika Heynatz (who lost to Theron in February by KO10). A mixed bag!

Beyonce hasn't shown enough for punters to make her the favorite, but “insiders” - including several who've seen her most recent fights, see hopeful signs. Beyonce's the kind of short, inside, body attacking, fighter who gives Theron trouble - and statistics back them up!
(see: Ashley Judd, 2001; Jennifer Lopez, (1999x3); Kiana Tom, (1999); Gina Gershon, 2001). Throw in women such as Torv, Garner, and Mitra and - if you squint a bit - maybe, you can see a pattern.

“I was hoping to make 128,” Beyonce said at weigh-in. “I have to work hard to keep the old body in shape. But now I'm boxing again, I've hit the gym and added muscle, too. At this weight, I'm in better shape than at 128. Weight's not a concern since Charlize and I agreed to just forget about it.”

“I'm in the best condition I've been in since I got buff for 'Fury Road',” Charlize boasted after stepping off the scale at a sexy, trim and svelte 128. “Bey looks great at her (welter) weight. She should keep it on.” Then Charlize sighed, sounding a bit envious, “Let's face it, I let myself go during publicity tours, but I drop weight fast once I'm in the gym. Everything's tightened up and is right back where it should be,” she grinned.

“Beyonce's been yapping like a rabid Schnauzer about wanting to get J-Law and me in the ring. Well, this month she's getting her wish. She had all the talent a fighter could want...and wasted it! She won 15 fights by the end of 2003, and only two since then! Her stable dropped her and she just looked like she gave up after that.”

“She dabbled at boxing off and on for a decade before she signed on with her new management this summer. Is she going to be serious about boxing...or is this just an to get publicity to hype a new album?”

Queen Bey bristling at the suggestion she's not serious about her return to the ring. “She'll find out how serious I am when I hit her,” she grumbled. “I went twenty rounds with her in 2002 and while she beat me both times, she never 'defeated' me mentally. In fact, the year I fought Theron was one of her best years ever.”

“It's thirteen years later, and that broken down old chassis has got a lot of miles on it and its taken a whole lotta damage in that time. I'm older now, but nowhere near as ramshackled as Theron! Show up on time for the fight. You don't want to miss a minute of it, because... I guarantee you, I'm gonna shock the world! I'm not telling anyone how to bet; I don't gamble myself, but if there's one thing I AM willing to bet on...it's me!”

Theron showing how serious she is by returning to the cream bikini of her glory years; hair in a messy braid, bare feet and a serious expression on her face. Queen Bey, ever the show woman, decked out in a bright gold, beaded, spangled, fringed, leotard-inspired ensemble complete with elbow and knee pads and mid-calf 'butt stompin' boots. Referee tells her, “Lose the elbow pads,” but there's no mistaking 'her majesty' is all-in serious about winning her biggest fight in many years!

R1: Charlize out, gloves up, gliding effortlessly left behind the jab. Beyonce, guard high, watching and assessing, timing the taller blonde. Bey looks tentative, understandable since this her first “big” fight after years of relative inactivity. Into the round, Beyonce lashing out a couple of jabs; the second snaps blond head back. The crowd, eager for action, restless until both get close and settle down to work. Both scoring with rights, but Charlize's' has better leverage and it backs Beyonce to the ropes where Knowles scores coming off with a hook to the taller blonde's chest. It's enough to convince Charlize to back off a step.
Beyonce into pursuit, comes up short as Theron bangs a firm right to the head that sends shockwaves down the singer's body. Knowles low center of gravity serves her well here, as it absorbs the impact and she answers back with a belly-button centered right of her own that craters the smooth flesh of the taller blond. They trade body shots to the bell when Charlize's aggressive command of the ring while fighting at long range to take advantage of her reach earns her the points. Charlize skips back to her stool wearing a self-satisfied smirk on that gorgeous face.

R2: Charlize still the aggressor, but Beyonce fighting better, more confidently, now. She's targeting Theron's long torso with a steady stream of hooks and crosses. Theron continues jabbing at long range, but can't seem to get her right on target and she's beaten backward as Queen Bey begins to show off her muscle; ripping hard to Charlize's body with both hands and even pancaking her bra with a left hook!
Theron's mouth gapes open in a silent cry as her right cup gets the pancake treatment. Hard-hearted, close-up action ensues as both brawl, each determined to impose her will on the other.
Down the stretch, Charlize stands her ground, firing with both hands after Beyonce finally penetrates her defenses to make the fight 'up close and personal'. When the women are toe-to-toe pounding away, the crowd eats it up! At the bell, Beyonce lands a final right and Charlize sags back against the ropes, welcoming a break. The black beauty leans in to pin the blonde on the ropes, chesting up and forcing eye contact until the ref breaks 'em up. Good work by both fighters, but it's Beyonce who gets the nod.

R3: Charlize out on her toes for the second, backing Knowles up with a series of sharp jabs snapping the sturdy black woman's head back, keeping Beyonce on her heels as she tries to block. Theron using the right too, spearing it into Beyonce's ribs. Queen Bey opens up whenever Theron plants her feet and stops dancing. Fight's a crowd-pleasing slugfest with neither willing to back off and damage from the punches begins to add up. Theron uses her long legs to maneuver Knowles back into a corner where she works over her thick body until Beyonce turns on a right that “accidentally” elbows Theron in the left breast! Charlize bleats through her mouthpiece and complains, but the referee ignores the protest. But Beyonce does it again and Charlize's hands drop. Knowles pulls her fist back and doubles up on the right hand, cracking her with a straight right flush on the chin! Theron hurt, backs up as Beyonce comes blasting forward.
Theron trying to put down the rebellion, but Beyonce's landing clean and hard as she hammers Theron backward across the ring. Charlize at last is forced to clinch, arms around Beyonce's shoulders trying to stop the slugfest. From there, it's a wrestling match with Knowles using her thick, powerful, legs to push Theron back onto the ropes where she leans into her, slamming punches with both hands into her flanks until the ref breaks it up.
Even then, Beyonce smacks Theron once more in the gut before she struts away, leaving the blonde red-faced with anger and gasping for air. What started out like a Theron round, ended up being Beyonce's, close.

R4: Both out swinging for the fences, but Charlize manages to keep the action at long range - for the most part. That's where she's looked most comfortable. Beyonce scoring more often with hard shots but Charlize continues to keep her distance, proving she can be effective fighting going backward while avoiding being trapped in the corners. Beyonce nimble and when she can maneuver in tight, she'll drive a couple of power shots that test Theron's abs. Theron staying focused, answering with an uppercut that makes Bey blink and back down.
Charlize moving forward behind the punch, but Beyonce recovers quickly and they end up slugging body shots at mid-ring again. Theron's leggy style and long reach are devastatingly effective - as long as she can keep Beyonce out at the end of her punches. But any time Knowles can get under or inside the left, she makes things uncomfortable for Charlize. This time they break clean after the closest round so far. Charlize landed one big right, showing she can back Beyonce up with power, but she hasn't put it all together yet and Knowles keeps hanging around; getting to Charlize's body on occasion. Charlize wins the round (but it's close).

R5: Theron starting to show some of her old swagger, but it's taken a while. On her feet before the bell, eager to get back out there and finish Beyonce to prove to her fans, and doubters, she's still got the old competitive fire and guts! Charlize doing the 'Theron shuffle', flashing shadow boxing moves, dancing and bouncing to her left, always stalking! Beyonce cautious, backing away, luring Theron in. Charlize misses a left hook, and throws an overhand right...that Knowles steps inside of to unleash a short, chopping, left hook of her own that buckles Theron's knees!
Charlize falls into Knowles, right arm draped over Beyonce's left shoulder! Knowles wraps her left around Charlize's waist where she grabs her bikini bottom...and STUFFS three hard rights up into the blonde's belly! Theron lifted onto her toes by each one - aided by Beyonce yanking up on her bottom!
Charlize's mouth gaping; unable to get a breath. Knowles holding and hitting mercilessly as Theron is rag dolled in the corner; trying to clinch while Knowles is gutting her! Referee standing, watching; as Knowles punches drift lower and lower down Theron's body. Blonde folding over; eyes wide; mouth gaping; grunting with each punch!
When it seems Theron's about to collapse, Beyonce steps back and goes headhunting! A left hook twists Charlize halfway around; her hands, which had been at her belly, drop at her sides. Beyonce launches, leaping off her feet, getting her full weight into a right to the side of Theron's jaw! The big blonde's butt scoots back as she drops straight down at the ropes on her right side; legs twisted left over right out in front of her; her upper body cantilevered over the apron supported by the bottom rope!
Beyonce glowers over the fallen blonde, then bends down close to Theron, glaring at her; fists clenched at her thighs like she's daring her to get up. The referee pulls her away and almost has to wrestle her to a neutral corner. By the time he gets back and picks up the count, there's only seconds left before the bell ends the round. Theron saved but Beyonce wins round on points (wide).

Theron's professional handlers already on the ring apron at the bell, quickly scramble into the ring to retrieve their girl. They get her on her stool and go to work with smelling salts, cold compresses and anything else they can think of. (One writer claims a nun was on her knees in the Academy corner saying a novena.) Whatever, it worked as Theron was conscious and talking shortly before the warning buzzer for the sixth round.

R6: Beyonce out quickly, piling into Charlize in her corner, roughhousing, bulling into the blonde with head, shoulders and elbows to pin her to the turnbuckle. Knowles with rights to the body, big sweeping hard, swings to Theron's rib cage. Charlize wilting under the pressure on her achy middle. Knowles sticking to her plan to take the blonde's legs out of the equation. Beyonce right hand sends Charlize shuffling sideways along the ropes. Theron utilizing a bendy upper body and strategic clinches, avoids a catastrophe; buying time to recover.
Charlize' left hook twice beats Bey’s right hand to keep her at a distance. Sloppy round for Knowles who throws her right over the top from too far away, missing as Charlize bends back or circles in retreat. Slowing the tempo, Charlize slugs with Beyonce just often enough to keep her wary; accepting a right cross in order to land her own uppercut, for example. But the gutsy Knowles refuses to back off or go away!
Stepping to her left, leading with rights, and hooking as hard as she can in under Charlize' elbow, Bey again has Theron cringing from her solid body punching. Still, toward the end of the round, Theron starts getting home with right hands thrown from the hip in combination with the left. That surprises Knowles who's rocked several times. For the first time tonight, Bey's beautiful face is showing signs of damage. But no matter how you cut it, Beyonce still wins yet another close round.

R7: Theron steps out on Beyonce's jab, then back in where she drops a slick counter right off her hip again. Knowles' sturdy legs unhinge briefly and she staggers sideways with a sick look of hurt. Charlize quick to take advantage, loads up the right hand and unleashes, but the punch is hurried and doesn't land clean. Beyonce stutter-steps, wobbles, then goes to one knee, her gloves up on either side of her face so she never sees it coming when Charlize, sauntering past on her way to a neutral corner, hip-checks her with a little right hip action, knocking her onto her backside. Beaming Charlize catches her breath in the corner while Queen Bey takes an 'eight break' to clear her head.
Beyonce on her feet, but not quite all right yet, back in action carrying her left hand low, inviting Charlize' right hands. Theron sensing an opportunity, landing again and again after giving Beyonce little feints, then the hesitation right cross while the dazed Knowles blinks in confusion.

R8: Knowles corner exhorting her between rounds, comes out determined to re-establish her dominance on offense. Charlize using a fade to draw Beyonce's right, then leans onto her front foot to clip tit with the hook, slash chin with a chopping right and BEYONCE'S HURT! Bey reeling back with a stunned expression. Charlize coolly steps forward; hook, jab; then a hard right cross in that bashes Knowles' head back. Beyonce, hurt, reeling as she's battered across the ring. Her butt hits the ropes heavily and she hunkers down, gloves at her lips. Theron knows this could be her one chance to end it and she puts on a clinic in how to finish; breaking down Beyonce with withering straight arm hooks to the right side, then turning the hook into an uppercut to Bey's face; then as Knowles starts to flounder, bringing out the 'big guns' devastating right hands to the jaw, the first buckling her knees, the second bending her backward thru the ropes.
Referee steps in to give her a chance to untangle herself, then gives her a standing eight count. Queen Bey overwhelmed, struggling just to straighten up, hands loose at her sides. Charlize had finally started to put her punches together, her body vibrating now that her kill is at hand. Referee checks Knowles' gloves and she steps away from the ropes and faces up to Charlize.
Theron pushes her off, screens Bey with a brushing left between the eyes and DROPS a stinging right hand out of nowhere to the chin. DOWN GOES BEYONCE! Beyonce electrified on her back - limbs all stiff and jerky - eyes wide and glassy as she flops around pathetically, like a fish out of water; writhing trying to get back to her feet. She just BARELY beats the count and WAIT...IT'S OVER! The referee is waving it off; saving proud Beyonce from further harm. Theron stares at her for a second, then turn away and trudges back to her corner. The TKO8 winner, Charlize Theron!

After: Beyonce was doing everything right, winning four of the first six rounds, seemingly in control of the action and on her way to the upset she forecast. Perhaps it was conditioning; or not enough hard training to prep her to where she had to be facing a skilled, talented, veteran, Hall of Famer. Or, it simply could be Theron is just too good for her! Charlize is 3-0 against Knowles, and while Beyonce isn't getting any younger, Theron IS getting older. So when Theron's, say, 45... and Bey is oh, 39... we could try again?

Beyonce achy and grumpy facing the media; disappointment evident on her face. “I thought this would be the time for me,” she said, admitting her hurt. “She's not what she once was and I really did expect to be able to handle her. Still, at this level of competition, all it takes is one mistake by me or for her to take advantage of one small opening and everything changes.

“I'm serious about this comeback, I think you saw in the early rounds the kind of fighter I can be. Maybe I got a little to ambitious, coming after Theron this soon...I could have waited and taken three, four, or five other fights first, gotten myself in... but who am I kidding. I wanted to beat her and get that monkey off my back.

“I'll get a couple more fights and then see how Miss Lawrence feels about getting in the ring with me. She's who I'm going to have to get past if I want to make a serious run at the belts at light.”

Charlize clearly trying her utmost to put her lackluster performance in the best light possible - given the way she got smacked around by a woman who's barely fought at all for the last five or six years. “Bey came to fight,” she said, belaboring the obvious. “She rocked me several times early and whenever it looked like I had her in trouble, she channeled her inner 'Gena Lee' and either elbowed, held or gave me a low blow. It's really hard to maintain some kind of rhythm with all the fouls, holding, and wrestling she puts you through. But that's the state of boxing these days.

“I don't have any plans for the rest of the year, probably gonna skip the December PPV...unless somebody comes up with an offer too good to refuse. I plan on taking a week, then hit the gym until January, or February. With no title fights looming on the horizon, there's no imperative for me to take a fight I don't want. I'll probably spend my weekends going to watch other girls fight. See what J-Law, Blake and Liz are up to,” she adds with a grin.
