Mila Kunis versus Sarah Shahi (Flyweight Championship)
(Words: Oddman/HISC / Results: Lookout!)

Before: When a champion with 40 fights to her credit faces a challenger heading into her 30th, the smart money’s on the champ.  When the champ has 19 wins to the challenger’s 22, the situation gets murkier.  When this is the challenger’s 8 or 9th title fight, with 7 of them being defenses, compared to the champ’s 3rd, and her first defense, you see why Mila is a significant underdog going into this fight.

Shahi trying, not altogether succeeding to damp down expectations: “Half the battle is seeing yourself as the champion.  I’ve been doing that since I beat Scarlett.  Mila’s never been in a position to do that.  It  makes this a huge wildcard!”

Mila in pre-fight: “Michelle told me to take on the best. The length of your reign won’t mean a thing if you don’t. Sarah had quantity and quality in her time on top so she seems like the perfect test to see if I deserve to be here. Newsflash. I do. I know people consider me an underdog to the challenger. I’m alright with that. It took me a little longer than some to blossom, but I’m here and Sarah will find out how determined I am to stay.”

Mila is dressed in a royal purple two-piece (sports bra and boy-cut trunks) with pink gloves. It’s eye-catching if nothing else, Mila apparently trying to put off a queenly vibe with her regal hue. Sarah in a black bikini, white gloves, long low pony with bangs framing her face.

R1: Sarah intent, eyes sparkling as she feints, steps out, circles in either direction, Mila hopping forward in her stances, dukes moving back and forth between brows and mouth: she’s pinging out a double-jab, looking to scoot-in and drop right hands. Shahi’s lateral movement and upbeat tempo holding Kunis largely in check, a couple of spirited exchanges result as both girls hustle punches to tummy, then work up-torso to cash in to chin., Sarah the quicker mitted lass in these exchanges, winning the race with her hook to Mila’s chin, snapping the champ’s head back again and again..

R2:  Mila jabbing, dropping tasty right hands up the middle, straight punches marking Sarah up at arm’s length. Shahi dipping her way in close and unleashing swift-mitt combinations in response: Kunis briskly touched body/head, frequently startled at the gatling-gun velocity of the work. Flyweights at each other almost non-stop: it's Mila outhustling Sarah for the most part, Challenger unable to walk the Champ down as Kunis circles, controls the angles.

R3:  It's the Sarah Shahi show as Mila covers up peek-a-boo, unable to answer. Challenger steps-to, leading the jab, flowing into a double hook body & head, then brings the mitt back snappy on follow through. She'll punctuate the hooks with the odd straight right into Mila's guard: Champ kept off balance by the staccato combos. All around the ring, up against the ropes - Sarah enjoys Mila, dominating and bullying, gypsy curls tossing back and forth in time with the beating. Break: Shahi grinning, bumping chests, then pushing off the ropes; Kunis glaring, furious with herself.   Mishy up on the apron, giving Mila an earful through the break: boils down to “you are not handing her another run at my record in front of me!”

R4:  Sarah steps to Mila to re-initiate and catches a snootful as Mila won't have it! In what might be the scrappiest round of Kunis' career she lathers Shahi back towards the ropes. Sarah bending at the waist, rolling her torso, trying to match Mila’s rate-of-fire, but being driven backwards. Both brunettes leaning in, wailing away: lot of sloppiness ruins some of the effort, bogging each other down in the trenches.  This round devolves into a hard-slugging stalemate, bellies and breasts beaten mercilessly all-around.  At the bell, Kunis nails an insurance right to the tits, Shahi gasps, pays her back to breasts before the ref can push the snarling beauties apart.

R5:  Mila continues to get ruff, pushing both fighters out of their comfort zones. Kunis rushing in, grappling, wrestling tummy to tummy as girls writhe up top. Ref issuing breaks: Mila hopping back in, looking to hold and hit. Messy stuff - both women having moments digging hup-hup bursts to tummies or tits in close, crowd pleasing two-way-mayhem. Down the stretch, out of the scrum - Mila's left hand secures Sarah's left wrist, pulling the arm forward, tipping the Challenger off balance. Snarling Kunis baring teeth, hacking hateful slap-chop rights to Shahi's exposed left ribs AND BACK! Ref breaks 'em up, gives Mila a hard shake by her arm: Kunis seething, eyes blazing to see Shahi rubbing heel of her left hand into pink ribs

R6:   Girls sparking jabs off of offending faces, then chugging away to chest & chins. Mila’s ponytail tossing, she’s breaking off the engagements, stepping clockwise. Sporadic flurries after jabbing sessions: both girls lathering away body and head. Sarah's hands quicker in combination, heavier: she's getting the better of the trade. Down the stretch, Shahi tunes Kunis up to the midsection with rapid left/right/left shoeshine; twisting to her right to get a tasty, tight hook snug to chin. Kunis wide-eyed, startled as legs are starting to give way, stepping in fence post holes as Shahi pulls ahead.

R7:  Mila POURS it to Sarah early, kissing criss-cross straight lefts and rights off Challenger's face.  Shahi stumbling forward, Kunis baring her teeth as she keys off - jabbing her face over presented left shoulder; feeding her the swift right cross to left cheek; digging the left uppercut between Sarah's breasts. Shahi still sputtering forward, hurt but battling, corralling Mila with cuffing little hooks up top; reefing the right uppercut to midsection, then digging in behind either elbow as Kunis stoops forward. Ring-a-ding-dong exchanges in close punctuated by Mila's exquisite footwork - she's engaging furiously, but also turning Sarah, using the jab to renegotiate initative and when inside, hustling like hell to get the extra touch. Bell: Shahi drops her hands; Kunis hooks her across the mouth flagrantly late...ref moves in as Challenger's staggering around and blinking in wonder.

R8: Sarah hounding Mila along the aprons in counter-clockwise pursuit for the first two minutes, whirling left & rights doing a great job of setting up short, pounding straight rights up the middle. Kunis backpedaling into her corner, but finally timing Shahi, hacking a short right behind the left ear as Challenger's bouncing in. SARAH'S HURT! Shahi's legs spasm, sending her face-first into turnbuckles as Kunis spins-out, Champ circles back in and suddenly it's Sarah under siege. Shahi forms peek-a-boo with fists at temples: Kunis edges in close; tucks the left uppercut to tummy; doubles it into left uppercut to chin; puts a tidy right uppercut to chin neat as you please and DOWN GOES SARAH! Shahi’s head rocking back - her body bouncing off the turnbuckles, crashes to her back, knees coming up as she comes to a full stop in the HISC corner. Sarah ragged, rolls to her right hip, trying to beat the count but IT'S NO GO! It’s a KO 8 for the winner and STILL Flyweight champion, Mila Kunis!

After:  Given her walking papers in January, spared by a technicality, Mila emerges as the first Consortium fly to defend  title successfully since 2012!  Nat and Mishy in the ring, hugging her enthusiastically, even Claire on her feet, Mila may have just won Flyweight of the Year honors with this gutsy, take-no-prisoners defense!

Ringside in a HISC track suit, with her hair still damp from the showers after her own bout tonight, Krissy Kreuk’s face turns from the hopeful before and during the match to sour. Not long ago, Kreuk had thought she’d sent Mila packing and now she’s champion of the world. It doesn’t sit well and apparently she’s not willing to hide her displeasure by sitting with arms folded on the sidelines.

Mila, so excited about a successful defense against top comp forgets about getting Sarah to a corner to give her some infamous Consortium tummy and, by the time she remembers, Shahi is well-protected. Still, there’s camaraderie galore from Michelle and Natalie.

As they say, ain’t no party like a Consortium party!
