BEFORE: Most BBU fans still best remember Jessica Marais from her shocking KO1 loss to Jessica Schwarz back in 2011 which resulted in a broken jaw for the blonde actress. Of course that was just a preview of Schwarz's incredible punching power that made her the most successful bantamweight fighter in the organization's history and Marais was simply well overmatched in that contest. However she bounced back by knocking out Kelly Reilly and compatriot Nicky Whelan among others since then and is destined for another exciting bout against Garnet Gunners' Roxanne McKee tonight.
Roxanne remains a classic BBU floater, she's not in the elite contention but offers enough eye-catching performance to land an odd opportunity here and there. She was last seen on the Boxing Day PPV where Jennifer Metcalfe stopped her in the seventh before current champ Una Healy blasted her out in four but Marais' lack of recent activity makes this fight probably the most difficult for predictions.
Jessica Marais wears a white bikini set and black gloves. Blonde hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Roxanne McKee wears an orange bikini and red gloves. Brown hair in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Both girls spend most of the time looping single hands over the top and it's getting obvious quickly that neither is willing to rush in with an aggressive charge to set this fight up into her favor. Jessica looks a slightly faster of the two covering most of the canvas but can't find a way through the brunette's guard and Roxanne - who's suffered quite a few bad losses in her career - prefers to work the slow drill too despite the loud support of the crowd. Nothing changes until the bell with both women circling around each other and Denise van Outen thinks that more sweat is visible during a regular gym workout than in this bout so far.
Round 2:
We're still in the early stages but the fight threatens to become a real snoozer with neither Jessica nor Roxanne ready to spice things up. Even a loud jeering from the crowd doesn't change their mindset and the round is another one to forget with minimal contact and plenty of ducking & weaving instead. Roxanne gets more animated in the final minute and sends a late combo between the mitts that shakes the blonde up briefly but a lenghty clinch follows and the fans wasted a grand total of six minutes witnessing a terrible contest all around. Things must improve from now on!
Round 3:
Indeed things do improve as Roxanne leaps into a quick charge up the alley and clips the blonde's jugs before blasting her on the temple with a left handed hook. It looks like Jessica was ready to bide her time again but she has to react now that the brunette riffles more leather into her face. A staunch defence prevents McKee from further success and even a switch on the body leaves her hanging with Marais suddenly going uptempo and working the counterpunching drill from the back foot. The mid distance slugging favors the Aussie visitor who keeps the brunette at bay for remainder of the round and neglects the early promise wholesale. Not the best round of boxing but still there's actually something to write home about after that woeful start from both girls.
Round 4:
Marais looks visibly faster across the canvas again but prefers to let McKee wear herself out a bit in a fruitless pursuit. The brunette seeks the close range tangle but loses her balance a couple of time and is fortunate enough not to suffer an immediate response from the Aussie who remains extremely focused in her game plan and refuses to blow her fuse even though Roxanne begins to lose her temper down the stretch over the repeated misplaced attacks. A late rally on the guts shuts McKee on the ropes and Jessica bombs a hook on the temple right at the bell to steal the round beyond anyone's doubt.
Round 5:
Another wasteful pursuit slows McKee down and enables Marais to connect with the chin on the follow up after a little while. She splits the mitts a bit too frequently for the brunette's liking but the footwork dominace allows the blonde to stay on top of her opponent and land plethora of facial punches that reel a gasping Roxanne back to the ropes. The brunette bellows out into a tight earmuff but Jessica finds her stride in pounding the ribcage and leaves the English actress yelping all the way through the attack. A late response almost catches Marais on the temple but McKee is too slow in her execution against such a lively opponent and instead she gets clubbed on the nose which bends her to the side at the bell with the Aussie looking to dish out further punishment and bumping into her chest afterwards. The crowd finally gets to witness some bad temper between the two girls however it's the ACB blonde who looks more dangerous right now.
Round 6:
Slowly but surely Roxanne begins to lose her breath and she barely lasts a full minute in her pursuit before she has to slow down and just fend off the counterpunching drill that allows Jessica to take control of yet another round once the brunette gasses out. This is a methodical dissection of the brunette's energy supply and allthough the big punches don't come crashing in as often as in a regular BBU fight, McKee is visibly worn out come the final minute and doesn't have much left to bother the agile opponent. Jessica rocks her in mid range with a heavy facial assault and pounds back to the ropes where she slides in with the ribcage check to sink McKee into gasping out in pain and settling for a late clinch that does nothing to turn the fight around.
Round 7:
McKee just doesn't have that punching power to roll back the Schwarz tape and Marais is roughing up her face at will early in the seventh when she closes in and blasts through the guard. Roxanne swings wide in response and can't find the correct distance but that's irrelevant down the stretch since Marais moves in with more brutal hooks that send the brunette's head rocking back & forth and dump her onto the ropes. The English actress bellows out in a tight earmuff but leaves herself exposed to a flurry of punches to the liver area that make her cry out in pain before Jessica rips into the navel and clips the jugs with a frantic series in the dying seconds of the round to almost pull the plug on her struggling opponent. Roxanne looks toast physically and stares down at her entourage with little faith left in her eyes.
Round 8:
Roxanne is on life support here as she has little air in her lungs left and soaks up a quick batting series over the top that whips her on the heels within seconds of the bell. Jessica is clearly aware she's mauled the brunette into exhaustion and wastes not time whatsoever to make it count... she blasts more hooks on the temples and reduces McKee into a lifeless punchbag reeling her into butt-in-ropes in the proccess. The brunette's arms fall by the wayside as Jessica keeps ripping her face apart and is on the verge of knocking the English actress out cold on her feet... McKee's face is covered with her hair and the poor woman is mumbling her submission which no one can hear amid wild reaction from the crowd... BUT THE REF HAS SEEN ENOUGH... he charges in and hauls the Aussie off her prey just in time to prevent a terrible knockout.. TKO8 Jessica Marais!!!
AFTER: It's been a gruelling contest in the latter stages and Jessica simply outlasted Roxanne before blasting her into a standstill and leaving the ref with no option but to stop the one-sided affair. Unfotunately it doesn't look like McKee can find energy required to compete for the whole distance anymore looking every bit of 35 years of age here in Liverpool tonight. And since Jessica is five years her junior, she made the most of the slow start and saved a lot in her tank to blast the English brunette apart. The blonde's punching power is still her weak point but with the correct tactics she can secure more wins in the future against solid journeywomen. This being said, she pretty much removed Roxanne from that status tonight and handed her a well deserved beating. Don't expect her to seek a rematch with Jessica Schwarz anytime soon though!
