EXHIBITION TENNIS BOXING FROM SINGAPORE

BEFORE: Laura Robson has struggled with injuries over the past two years but she's ready to make a comeback and claims she hasn't forgotten how she knocked out Maria Kirilenko at home turf in Wimbledon. However Angelique Kerber has other ideas looking to break her own lousy streak which dates back to a single point loss to the then high-flying Caroline Wozniacki at Indian Wells: "I smoked Michelle Jenneke to enter the boxing competition and she was much stronger than Laura ever will be. Plus I don't think she feels confident enough right now and but for her sponsors threatening to quit on her, she'd be still sitting on the couch and nursing that sore wrist!"

Both these girls are left-handed so it takes away the potential surprise factor. Angelique Kerber wears a violet bikini set and white gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a braid. Laura Robson wears a red bikini set and black gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a high ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
Kerber's on the move early; just thudding punches up the middle to see exactly how rusty Robson is, the reponse is weak and misplaced which only fuels the blonde's jabbing attack that begins to pick the Brit off more repeatedly as time goes by. Laura's forced on the back foot and can't do much about the feisty blonde racking up punches against her face with the high guard badly ineffective. She has to yield real estate in the final minute and gets belted across the ribcage anyhow; Kerber shows her no sympathy whatsoever and bullies back to the turnbuckle where she delivers a right/left cross on the temples to leave Robson searching for answers amid a staggered look in her eyes.

Round 2:
More bullying follows but this time Kerber launches a body assault that catches the British prospect off guard and roots her to the spot in the middle of the ring. There's simply too much weight behind Angelique's punches and it easily overwhelms the below par resistance which leads in Laura's panic escape from close range thereafter. She flicks plenty of wayward punches trying to halt the German rout but Kerber just keeps pressing forward and stuns the cumbersome brunette with a left hook on the eye that spins her against the turnbuckle. A quick pounce on the midriff follows and pins Laura deep in the corner with no chance to escape this time; subsequently her breadbasket gets ravaged by a Kerber rapid fire and leaves her aching badly and hugging her tummy at the bell.

Round 3:
This is just a shellacking now; Kerber rips a right/left cross to open the floodgates upstairs and wrenches Laura's mouth with a quick follow up to stumble the brunette into a brutal uppercut on the chin... AND DOWN GOES ROBSON... she didn't land a single strike in the third and now heads for the boards with the blonde rocking & reeling in the neutral corner... too much power for the oft-injured British prospects to handle... she's up at seven but looks for the exit door already and Angelique nicks in with more uppercuts to render the high guard useless... Laura scowls in pain and gets pounded back to the ropes where she tries to hang on behind a tight earmuff but there's no stopping the German now and she hauls in another right/left cross on the eye before adding a hook to the solar plexus THAT SENDS THE BRUNETTE DOWN FOR KEEPS... Laura slides on all fours and doesn't even make an effort to beat the count having been thoroughly overpowered on the night. KO3 Angelique Kerber!!!

AFTER: When Kerber brings her best game to the table there's only a handful of players who get keep up with her. And Laura Robson simply isn't one of them regardless if the wrist injury still bothers her or not. One of the best British prospects in WTA's history is going throught a nightmare period right now and some experts doubt they'll see her win a meaningful tennis match let alone a boxing fight again.

On the other hand Kerber quickly makes her way to the locker room and tells the media that she should take center stage when it comes to German tennis discussion: "Maybe I didn't play the Wimbledon final like Sabine Lisicki and I don't have such a sleazy rack like Julia Goerges but I'm still the best performer outright and it's time everyone acknowledged that! I just can't wait for the new season to get started!"

Final result: Angelique Kerber def. Laura Robson KO3.
