Rachael Leigh Cook versus Rachel Stevens
(Words: ABC / Results: Lookout!)

Pre-fight:
Rachael Leigh Cook completed her ABC hat trick with a commanding win over Amy Adams mid-month, and now looks to put away until-recently higher ranked Rachel Stevens. Four wins in a row would certainly mark a great start to Cook’s comeback campaign. Stevens on the other hand is determined to put an end to that winning streak and get herself back into a bit of form that she has sadly seemed to lack lately.

“If Cheryl Cole can beat her, I can,” stated a confident Cook matter-of-factly. “Nothing against Cheryl. She’s dynamite. But, I watched that fight. Stevens won’t have much for me, I think she’s well past her prime. I guess some of us just have a longer shelf life than others.”

Stevens nonplussed by her opponent’s comments. “Oh please, Cook is not ‘back’. She never left. It just felt like she did because she was completely irrelevant. She still is, and I’ll help her realize that. She loves talking about my prime, but she forgets even in hers she wasn’t as good as I am now. She’s in for a hard lesson.”

Round 1:
Cook gets stuck in early with mountains of confidence and plenty of determination, managing to find the inside first and popping little jabs to Stevens’s chin to get her on her toes. The Brit returning jabs, but Cook is moving well and slips out for some hooks to sides that keep Stevens guessing and frustrated. Stevens does find a hook to Cook’s left ribs, but all that earns is a fiery reply to abs that bullies the fit dancer towards the ropes. Stevens continuing the jabs, somewhat to try and slow Cook’s enthusiastic attack, but Cook seems hungry. Stevens absorbs more shots to abs and ribs, and as soon as there’s a slight opening, Cook cheerfully shoots brazen uppercut that just clips the pretty Brit’s jawline. Stevens gets some heavy shots in late to Cook’s ribs, but it doesn’t slow the peppy flyweight too much and mostly just encourages her to find more toned abs. Nothing too devastating occurring in the first, but both beauties looking fit and lively, with Cook certainly the advantage on pace.

Round 2:
Stevens wants more ribs, and gets them. Cook obviously feeling the hooks and she’s still peppy, but certainly a little slower as she absorbs those heavy hands. Stevens clearly trying to slow her namesake down after having rings run around her in the first, and those crushing blows to ribs and sides are doing the trick. Cook grimacing as Stevens loads up, but she’s a little too predictable and Cook manages to get a few blocks in and open up a left right left jabbing combo to the centre of Stevens’ face, staggering her back and stopping the onslaught. Cook returns some blows to ribs and Stevens is doing the wincing now. But the Brit is happy to go blow for blow and as Cook sags a little, Stevens flashes an uppercut under Cook’s chin that startles her. And then it’s back to hurting those ribs. By the end of the second, Cook is holding her side in pain, slowly taking to her corner with cautious movement.

Round 3:
Stevens knows where to hurt her opponent and cleverly flashes the high jab to bring up guard and then goes underneath, chugging away at those surely bruised ribs. Cook gets the occasional jab up to Stevens’ pretty features, but the damage is all going to Cook’s red sides and tummy. We’re not sure how much more punishment that fit little body can take, but Stevens is determined to find out. Cook starting to sag a little in the middle and Stevens happy to straighten her back up with rising hook to jug and face intermittently. But still the focus seems to be on Cook’s firm midriff and it is taking some serious punishment. A heavy right hook pounds into Cook’s left ribs and Cookie is wincing and grabbing at that side, not liking this one bit.

Round 4:
Cook desperately guarding that damaged torso as Stevens keeps trying to find a way through to mulch that sexy little midriff. It looks like a game of cat and mouse until Cook surprises her opponent with a ripping uppercut from the waist that hammers under the Brit’s chin. The impact has Stevens straight up and rigid, and she is completely open for the follow up; a smarting one-two to perky jugs and then a left cross that blasts through Stevens’ jawline and drops her straight off her feet! Stevens is on her side, searching for her feet and Cook looks on, hugging her ribs and tummy, going wide-eyed in shock and frustration as Stevens manages to beat the count. But Stevens isn’t as sharp on the attack now and Cook has that confidence back, hunting some midriff of her own and popping some smarting jabs to that bruised British jaw.

Round 5:
Stevens looks a little slow after being dropped, and Cook seems to have decided at this point offense is the best defense. Cook comes in swinging madly, trying not to give her opponent a chance to batter that sore midriff, and it works as Stevens is put on the back foot right away, forced to cover up and absorb the big blows that hunt ribs and head alternatingly. Stevens does her best to follow with the guard, but Cook is quicker and Stevens is gradually more groggy as some overhands find temple, and soon Stevens is open for more clubbing blows to her pretty cheeks and lips and she is battered senseless, just propped up by the ropes, cute ass almost resting on the middle one, her wobbly legs clearly wanting a rest. Stevens gets her much needed seat at the end of the fifth, but she looks groggy and tired now and Cook has some serious momentum.

Round 6:
Stevens just seems to be playing survival now and she takes what she can, popping a few jabs out that smart Cook’s cheeks but don’t cause any real trouble or damage. And Cook responds with more clubbing overhands to that gorgeous face, bruising Stevens’ left cheek and scoring almost at will on the struggling Brit once she’s trapped against the ropes again. Stevens valiantly tries to whether the storm, but there’s little coming back at Cook to slow her roll and eventually a gut punch hunches Stevens and the follow-up uppercut rips hard against those beautiful lips, and sends Stevens bouncing back against the ropes to flop forward off them onto her sore tummy on the canvas. Stevens fails to make the count, and Cook wins, KO6!

Post-fight:
Cook exuberant. Knows she just put in her best showing since returning to the ring this year against one of her highest quality opponents yet. “Am I relevant yet, Rach? I AM back, whether snooty bytches such as you like it or not. Like I said, it’s all about shelf life. And yours is up, honey.”

Stevens not a happy camper, and that beautiful face looking very worse for wear. “She just had a good night. Don’t listen to her, I’m not done. I’ll be back and I’ll be fine. I know what I’m doing, and upstarts like her are going get some hard truth one of these days.”
