ROSARIO DAWSON VS MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD
A Santa-Kini Bout
Results: Lookout  Writing: Archer
Rosario: 36 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 5-4-0 since 2005. Innsmouth Female Fighting Institute
Mary: 31 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 33-33-0 since 2007, Foxfire Boxing

Before: Mary treating IFFI’s Rosario like a little sister, insisting on escorting her to a custom designer to make sure he picks out the “right” Santa=-kini. Rosario trying to be polite, finally tells Mary she can get her own Santa-kini “thank you very much.” Mary still puzzled when they get together with the press.

“I just don’t understand her,” Mary is soon complaining to the press, “I try to guide her so that she can make a good showing in her first Santa-Kini fight and she blows up at me! Now I have to go and beat her and she’ll probably blame me for that! Well, if she loses then it is her own fault — plus the fact that I am considerably better than she is.”

Rosario smoldering as Mary goes on and on. Finally, it is her turn: “Look, Mary, I realize how important these Santa-kini bouts are to you. Though I am not sure why—you’ve only won once against 3 losses (I looked them up). I may not be Kaley Cuoco, Yvonne Strahoski or Adrianne Palicki, but I know enough to beat you like they did. And I can pick out my own Santa-kini. I should have just told you that from the start.”

“Why didn’t you?” Mary asks sounding bewildered.

“I WAS BEING POLITE!” the frustrated Rosario fairly shouts the reply. Then looks embarrassed. “Sorry, but you can be a handful Mary Elizabeth Winstead.”

“Vonnie tells me that all time, usually when she’s trying to pin me at apartment house wrestling—uh, never mind about that. Look, I am sorry, Rosie, I apologize,” Mary said and gave the surprised Ms. Dawson a big hug.

“All right, all right,” Rosario said, “it’s okay, no hard feelings and all that.”

Mary beamed: “I am glad. I would hate to fight someone who didn’t enjoy Santa-Kini fighting. I just wanted to make sure you did.”

“I will enjoy it a lot more if I beat you,” Rosario said.

“You’re welcome to try, but I am very excited about this bout, I am sure this one I am going to win!”

Come fight night, Mary Elizabeth Winstead makes her entrance first, a Santa hat perched perkily on top of her head, she is wearing a red satin bra and panties trimmed with white fur. Black boots and red lacings go with her red gloves and black lacings. Mary looks somewhat anxious as Rosario Dawson makes her entrance. Rosario wearing green satin bikini panties and red satin bra. Both trimmed in white fur. She, too wears a Santa hat, with red boots and green lacings, her gloves are green with red lacings.

“I think red and white would have been better,” Mary says thoughtfully, “but you give the outfit an original twist. I approve.”

“Thank you for that,” Rosario said a tad dryly. “It will look even better when I am standing over you and your defeated red lingerie.”

“It’s not lingerie, it’s a Santa-kini! It doesn’t necessarily have to be based on a swimsuit,” Mary earnestly explained.

“Ms. Winstead, Ms. Dawson,” the referee interrupted. “I think it’s time we dropped the fashion discussion and get to the fight instructions.”

“Sorry, I tend to get a little carried away about this,” Mary said blushing.

“So I noticed,” Rosario murmured.

However the referee then launched into his ring instructions and everything proceeded briskly. In no time at all Mary and Rosario were in their respective corners ready and eager for the fight to begin. The bell rang…

R1: Rosario gliding quickly across the ring to engage Mary. Brisk exchange as they circle each oither with punches flying at a steady rate. Rosario moving back and forth between Mary’s body and head, trying not to get into a predictable rhythm. Mary getting her head knocked back and belly clouted enough to make her look uncomfortable. Mary trying to take offensive herself, but she’s not landing on the evasive Rosario and the IFFI fighter is racking up the points. Late in the going, Mary goes defensive with her jab and she lands some solid leather on Rosario’s head and body, but it’s not enough to avoid her losing the round on points to Rosario.

R2: Mary on the defensive as the second stanza gets started and Rosario comes rolling in eager to resume her attack. However this time Mary has her jab going right from the start and she making heavy contact with Rosario’s face. Rosie takes this punishment, but after a drilling right to her left eye, she pulls back and gets her own jab going to block Mary’s pursuit. Mary calm, just tries to work her way around Rosie’s defenses and keep up a constant punching drumbeat against Rosario’s head and face. Rosario retreating slowly, trying to fend off Winnie’s attack, but her face is getting red and shiny from the punishment she’s taking by the time the bell rings. Round to Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

R3:  Mary looks comfortable as she resumes her offensive this round, but Rosario using her footwork to be more evasive and then strikes back to the body. Mary takes a right hook deep in the gut that brings her lurching forward with a loud gasp. Rosie brings smashing hooks up into Mary’s breasts and face. Mary stumbling back with a stunned look on her face. Rosie springs after her and swings freely with smashing rights and lefts to the head that send Mary spinning into the ropes face-first. Rosario tries to spin Mary around by grasping her shoulder which gets intervention from the referee. Mary woozy, but not so confused she doesn’t know how to break up Rosario’s momentum and save herself from a knockdown. Mary able to steady herself and blunt Rosie’s attack to the bell, but Rosario Dawson the clear winner of this stanza.

R4: Mary pulling herself together during the break, surprises Rosario by charging her at the opening bell and plows her punches into Rosie’s body. Rosie’s bra cups get a real workout as it would appear Mary has not forgotten her jugs being mugged in the last round. Rosario now found herself gasping for breath as she backed away. Mary close in pursuit firing away at whatever opening she can see. Rosario getting hit hard mainly to the body (especially those freshly tenderized breasts) while getting enough noggin knocking head shots to keep her foggy and slow to react. Mary works hard and finally gets Rosario backed into the ropes, but Rosie follows Mary’s example and clinches to break up the momentum of the Foxfire veterans attack. Rounds ends with Rosario battered but still standing, but Mary wins rounds on points.

R5: Mary sizing up Rosario as she is slow to come off her stool. Mary then puts up her dukes and wades in with straight rights and lefts from the shoulder. After Rosie’s head is knocked back by shots coming in across the bridge of her nose, the IFFI fighter raises her gloves and fires back with a burst of jabs that give Mary’s face some hard, bruising contact. Both fighters back off, circle and then come back at each other. Rosie better jabbing and Winnie is showing some swollen, reddening places on her forehead and eyebrows. Mary steps back and goes hard to the body. Rosario taking it to the belly shudders and hunches over, but keeps her head up and protected. Mary keeps punching but she’s not doing much damage though her point totals add up to another round won.

R6: Rosario digging in, fighting hard as Winnie comes back in and she’s scoring well to Mary’s torso. Mary trying to get to the side and pop Rosie from unexpected angles, but Rosie keeping up with her. Then Mary does a reverse and catches Rosario off balance. Hard uppercut to the chin have Rosario tiptoeing back on shaky pins, but she’s somehow keeping that going to Mary’s face. Mary stung when one of the jab opens a cut in her swollen right eyebrow and falters. Rosario strikes back at the right eyebrow and it splits opens and blood dripping down Mary’s face. Mary quickly on the defensive with own protective jab. Rosario clearly feeling the surge goes after Mary’s body with strong hooks to the belly and breasts. Mary steers herself out to center ring to avoid the ropes. She strikes back with some solid jabbing of her own that give Rosie’s cheeks some bruising leather. Rosario hangs in and they bang away to the bell. Rosario emerges the narrow winner of the round.

R7: Mary cautious about her freshly repaired right eyebrow, keeping her head down and a glove up to protect the brow. Rosario finds opportunity as she goes after Mary’s mostly guarded torso. Banged heavily in stomach, ribs and breasts, Mary tries evasive footwork to keep away from Rosario’s punching. Rosario obliged to pursue and does a decent job of keeping up with Mary, though she is unable to cut off the ring on her. Rosie settles for circling her quarry and firing punches to Mary’s side ribs to add to the Foxfire fighter’s body aches. Mary maintaining good order to finish the round, but Rosario takes in by a wide margin.

R8: Mary bolder this round, catching Rosario as she is coming in fast to resume her attack, and greeting the IFFI fighter with smashing right off the jaw. Rosario rocked, stumbling backwards on quaking knees and ends up slumped against the ropes. Mary happy to surge in and bang at Rosario’s wide-open body with blitzkrieg of punching. Rosario manages to double and go in face in gloves as she tries to escape along the ropes. Mary barring Rosie’s way, but then the beleaguered lightweight grabs Mary around the waist in the a clinch. Referee moves in quickly to break it up. Mary tries to resume but runs into more clinching until Rosario finally just bolts passed her to center ring. Mary follows and the battle resumes, but Rosario using her jab to keep Mary back and Mary circling to get around the defense with quick stabbing punches to the head and side ribs. Rosario stable as the round ends but Mary has won the stanza wide.

R9: Rosario trying to get back in the fight starts the round with a blazing attack aimed at Mary’s head. Mary’s head swatted several times, but she ducks under most of these and comes back with avenging uppercuts into Rosario’s rack and chin. Rosario shuddering under these blows, but comes back with a rack and belly attack on Mary’s body. Mary standing toe to toe with Rosie as they battle in close with desperate determination. Mary gradually forcing Rosario back, but she pays for every step with punishment to her own body. Crowd is loving the intensity and are on their feet cheering the fighters on. Bell finally sounds and the two just standing there for a moment starring at each other, sweat dripping off their heaving bodies, and then they turn away and trudge back to their respective corners as crowd cheers them both. However on the cards this goes down a close victory for Winnie.

R10:  Rosario aware that she is now behind on the cards, so she comes out determination, but she quickly discovers Mary is just as determined to win this war. No surprise really as they once again go toe to toe with hammering punching to each other’s bodies. Their bra are taking a real shelling early on but then they go for each other’s jaws. A few of these head shots and both fighters grow glassy-eyed, but do not stop the exchange until Rosario drops down and pops up with an uppercut aimed at Mary’s chin. Mary pulls her back at the last second as the glove whistles past her. Then she swings back with a right of her own that catches Rosie on the side of the head. Rosario staggers away, but apparently hears Mary’s footsteps behind her. Rosie whirls around and catches Mary on the side of the head with her right. Now Mary’s turn to stagger away. Both fighters look to be out on their feet, but somehow see the other and lurch towards each other. They meet in a groggy collision and lean against each other trying to punch away at each other. Referee pushes them apart and as they lurch towards each other again more on instinct than battle plan, but then the bell rings. They don’t seem to hear the bell until referee jumps in before the punching can start again.
A few moments later, Mary and Rosario are standing next to the referee who then announces “The winner by Unanimous Decision—MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD!”

Mary’s arm is raised in victory while she bursts into tears. She turns to Rosario who is crying too and they embrace.  A hard fought battle that only one of them could win and it turned out to be Winnie.

After: “Wasn’t that a great fight?” Mary asks enthusiastically. Her face is all bruised and swollen, but she her big smile shows she’s not feeling much of the pain as she talks to the press. “I admit she had me worried more than once and that last round—just amazing. I don’t think I even remember the last minute. Just goes to show you how important fighting instinct can be. Rosario had it too, just not as much as I did, fortunately for me. I just want to tell Rosario how proud I was to have fought her tonight. She is an amazing fighter.”

Rosario seems to take some comfort in Mary’s kind words: “I always heard how tough she was, but you have to actually fight her to find out what that means. I just couldn’t take her out tonight and I admit she had me wondering where I was at the end of it. I’m sorry I didn’t win, but I am proud I went the distance.”

Hard fought battle that was a real holiday crowd pleaser. Rosario not so well known as Mary, but her toughness and fighting spirit shows she deserves more fights in 2016. MEW finishes with a close, but well-earned victory and she, too can look forward to 2016 with hope.
