BBU BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE BOUT

(Double A Boxing vs Front Street Japan)

BEFORE: The Aviva Stadium is buzzing with anticipation as the best Irish female boxer in BBU's history is ready to make her first defence of the title she won for the second time back in July with a ten round grindfest over German veteran Jessica Schwarz. With Alesha Dixon and Lisa Maffia earning their money in America these days, Una remains the top blockbuster name in the division having won 67% of her fights and reaching the 20 mark in the victory column which isn't that common across all four divisions. And all this after giving birth to a couple of children and once going through a five bout losing streak when the pregnancy pause took it's toll on the world class skill set. But at the age of 34 Una is at the top of her game and eyes her eight victory in a row to make this night one to remember for the whole of Dublin which hasn't seen their best fighter visit the country since a KO6 loss to Jenny McCarthy back in August 2011!

Meanwhile Reon Kadena wants to bring the straps back to Japan where Sayuki Matsumoto & Mikia Hara once occupied the lightweight & flyweight thrones respectively. The Japanese honor is probably one thing that can tame even the proudest of Irish and another chapter of the Western vs Eastern hemisphere boxing rivalry is set to be written in stone tonight. Kadena earned herself this opportunity by knocking out former champions Imogen Thomas and Rosie Jones in the past couple of months but it's a different story to face the reigning queen in her own backyard!

Healy's The Saturdays bandmates Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White carry the title belt above their heads and settle in the redhead's corner working as her cutmen tonight.

Una Healy wears a green bikini top, white knickers and orange gloves. Dark red hair tied in a high ponytail. Reon Kadena wears a black bandeau bikini and white gloves. Black hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail. The title fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Round 1:
Irish support all around and Una blasts immediate stalking drive to connect with Reon's chin and stack her up in the center of the ring; a flurry of punches slices the Japanese guard and reels Kadena on her heels before a gut checking switch bends her forward and enables the redhead to whoop a couple of heavy uppercuts on the jaw again. Reon wobbles towards the ropes and looks utterly shocked by the aggressive start from her opponent, she tries to deke to the left but meets a clubbing hook on the eye and caves in butt-in-ropes with Healy thumping her around the elbows and keeping trapped for remainder of the round. The Dublin crowd couldn't have dreamed about a better start for the champion who smacks relentless leather to her foe's midsection and leaves her moaning quietly at the bell after a bell-to-bell dominant showing!

Round 2:
More Irish aggression sends Reon into a quick escape and she barely grazes the redhead's flesh with a sluggish single hand response from the back foot. Una picks her off up the middle and shows superior execution beating Kadena to the punch by just a fraction each time but that's enough to make the Japanese warrior think better of it. The crowd urges Una to deliver a crushing blow to the challenger's confidence but the defensive mindset allows Reon to avoid another trap along the ropes even though she simply bides her time here while Healy stalks her back & forth and scores more single punches to keep the adrenaline pumping. Kaden's unable to make her moves at all and almost gets caught by a late hook to the ear before stumbling against the turnbuckle right at the bell which saves her from a looming Irish pounce.

Round 3:
Una matches Reon for pace in the early going and both women trade heavy leather in close range which actually enables the challenger to freeze the local star when a looping double combo finds the temples and rocks Healy to the side. But a quick straight jab bounces off the mounds and clips the brunette's chin to stop her in the tracks and a subsequent uppercut drive is blocked off by the Irish guard. A lenghty clinch follows but Una shakes her opponent off just in time to smack her on the chin again and follows up with another drive through the middle with Kadena getting backed into the ropes come the final minute. Similar pattern there; the high earmuff shuts Healy off upstairs and she settles into pounding the Asian's ribs instead before the ref hauls her off at the bell.

Round 4:
Kadena gave the champion a really long look during the interval and they keep trading leather in close range until the head hunting drill catches Una on the nose and dumps her into a hectic defence. Reon makes the most of this unexpected situation and bombs away at the body trying to punch the champion towards the ropes but she gets clinched and wrestled away as the Irish singer shows some core strenght and a nifty footwork when she ducks underneath a high barrage from the improving Japanese. It's Reon's turn for some stalking approach but she keeps bouncing off the guard way too often to make any progress in the final minute and eats a late cross hook on the mouth as Healy jumped in against the drive to score the last strike of the round.

Round 5:
The Dublin crowd begins to realize that Kadena is likely too durable to exit the ring anytime soon and perhaps Una gave her a little too much respect because she fails to back up the opening two rounds with similar dominance and allows the challenger to punch her to the body in the clinch before another wrestling struggle actually goes the model's way for a change. Una gets smacked on the chin and bellows out onto the ropes soaking up a punishing series on the guts and Reon just can't stop pounding her downstairs to give the otherwise pale skin a reddish look come the bell. Una moans a lot while trying to shake the challenger off but Kadena leans forward with her cleavage and keeps the redhead pressed to the turnbuckle to make this fight look competitive again at half-distance.

Round 6:
More Japanese stalking in Dublin and the Irish support dwindles a little when Una gets smacked across the lips and stumbles down on her knees to allow Reon to whack her with a quick uppercut drive that finds the chin and sends the redhead spinning back to the ropes. A last-ditch escape undernath Kadena's outstretched left arm enables Una to avoid the looming disaster but she can only clinch the feisty challenger and gets backed into the turnbuckle down the stretch again. She rips heavy punches to the brunette's body and earns herself both a much needed respite as well as official warning but Kadena squashes her lips with a frantic combo immediately after the command to box and leaves the redhead rocking on her feet and moaning out when she hoofs the high earmuff to the side and connects with the jaw to end the round clearly on top of the struggling champion!

Round 7:
All Kadena now, the Japanese shuts the redhead out in the center of the ring to silence the Aviva Stadium and loops brutally effective hooks on the temples to reel her back into more earmuff misery. Una swings back but only finds the bulletproof guard and yields real estate thereafter. Menacing pounce from Reon continues and she's happy to bide her time setting up the desired haymaker with the redhead unable to resume the Irish pride at the moment. The tempo of the fight slows down dramatically as Healy looks like she's thinking of Plan B on her feet and the methodical and very patient aproach from the challenger rolls back some vintage Japanese memories. Denise van Outen remains coy on the potential cliffhanger but it seems like both girls are trying to outsmart each other now and refuse to step in with a forward bite anymore. Una escaped a lot of heat this round but even the Dublin crowd doesn't know whether to enjoy that or not. Kadena is just not going away here and still on course to shock the Irish prospects.

Round 8:
More life gets sucked out of this fight in the opening minute of the eighth as both girls circle back after the initial jabbing approach finds nothing but bulletproof guard but the Irish pride eventually breaks free and sends Healy into a frantic drive that Kadena tries to counter with an equally quick leap forward... and both girls clash heads with Una's brow ridge catching the nasal ridge of the brunette and forcing immediate pause... that simply builds more tension as the crowd wants to find out if anyone got seriously hurt here but we're good to go and while Una seems happy to bide more time, the Japanese challenger rips a cross hooking route to punish the brow ridge and immediately make it swell to compound more uncertainty into the eventual result. Healy locks a tired looking clinch and wrestles the brunette back to the ropes with a loud gasp; she's clearly struggling to make an impact here and perhaps those wins over Thomas & Jones last year dented the original title defence plan after all?

Round 9:
Can Kadena win the fight on points on the champion's home turf? That would be a shocking development even for someone as open-minded as Denise van Outen but the Asian model refuses to switch into a higher gear thriving on the last few rounds that clearly went in her favor. And now Una thinks she has to make more of this and begins to stack up punches on the body before getting wrestled back to the ropes where Kadena simply prevents her from doing anything else. The fight turns downright ugly thereafter and has Reon thumping the redhead's kidneys before a lenghty break when the ref explains the rules of conduct to the Asian troublemaker. Reon pretends not to understand a word of English and she drives the crowd nuts but Una can't make her pay after the command and zips past the high guard with a sluggish drive that immediately gets countered and smacks her left brow ridge into more swelling. Both women see out the ninth in another clinch and we're heading towards the final round after all.

Round 10:
Both girls reckon the fight is safe and while Una has the local crowd supporting her mindset, it's very strange for Reon to think that way! Nothing significant in the opening minute as they hardly trade punches but Kadena finally rips a hooking drive up the middle afterwards and hoofs the redhead's guard aside to connect with the slumping chin. Healy swings back but is clearly beaten for pace and goes sky high while Kadena nips in on the rack to wobble the champion straight into a pulverizing smash from the left side that bangs her on the nose and wobbles on her heels with the arms collapsing by the side.... Point blank range right hook crushes the previously wounded brow ridge AND RAGDOLLS THE CHAMP FLAT ON HER BACK amid a lingering cry from the Aviva Stadium crowd!!! The upset has kicked through the Irish door allthough a slow count rescues Healy's pride at eight. But Reon bursts through her shattered defence and rains punches upstairs shutting the swollen left eye completely come the dying seconds of the fight... Una hangs on for dear life but screams out in pain when she gets plastered to the turnbuckle and Kadena has no intentions to stop wrecking her apart even when the clock expires and forces the ref to shove her away from one busted up champion!!! What a finish to this fight and well, that knockdown should pretty much do it!!!

After ten rounds of boxing we go to the scorecards... judges score the bout 97-96 for Reon Kadena... 97-96 for Una Healy - wait, what??? and 97-96 for your winner through a SPLIT decision and STILL the BBU Bantamweight champion - Una Healy!!!

AFTER: Denise van Outen is speechless in the booth and the celebration is very much muted around Dublin as well because the Japanese upset was denied by the old fashioned robbery... Irish robbery to be exact and we're not even on St. Patrick's Day yet! Una stumbles to her corner still unable to see a zilch through the damaged left eye and Reon tries to keep it as cool and honorable as possible. The belt stays in Europe, folks! Or is it... Front Street Japan's head trainer Kei Mizutani is livid with the scorecards and jumps into the ring to wrestle the belt away from Frankie Sandford's arms and that was a dumb idea to leave the weakest member of the Saturdays on security guard duty... The belt is ripped from her hands by Mizutani who slaps poor Frankie over her head with it and heads for the exit! Una doesn't seem to care about that as she still shakes her head and is on the verge of breaking down over the nasty looking gash on her eye and well, Vanessa White stumbles over the ref who was about to stand in coach Mizutani's way and both hit the boards as the wiley veteran runs away with the belts only to be tackled by the security crew who restore the title order... for now. Because even Denise van Outen calls for a rematch and is thankful that FSJ owner Ayako Hamada didn't make the trip from Tokyo or else we would have seen some really ugly scenes.

Amid all the drama and controversy Reon bows down to all four corners of the arena and exits the ring without ushering a single word or extra gesture. Even her eyes don't give a hint of what must be goimg through her mind. She put up a massive effort to upset the reigning champion in her own backyard, left her with a badly damaged eye and unable to celebrate the successful defence... but she still didn't win the title thanks to some questionable judging and well, Frankie Cocozza would be proud of that screwjob - if he didn't had anything to do with it already? The final chapter of Reon Kadena's title ambitions hasn't been written tonight but whether the Healy rematch actually happens it's anyone's guess because the contracts were signed to honor the Clara Morgane vs Dorota Rabczewska title eliminator already. Watch this space!

Final result: Una Healy def. Reon Kadena - Split Decision.
