Brooklyn Decker vs. Tricia Helfer
(Lightweight Championship)
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

Helfer coming in here as second choice after Jessica Biel, but doesn't seem to mind over much. "This is a great opportunity for me," the gorgeous blonde says. "I haven't been in the ring as much as I'd like lately, so I'd be excited about any fight against a top lightweight, but, getting another chance at the belts? Like I said. A great opportunity. And, trust me, I'm not going to waste it. We've been here before. And, nothing's changed."

"I'm actually very happy that Biel turned down the title shot," says Brooklyn. "She was my management's top choice. Helfer was mine. Two rounds. That's how long the last one lasted. Two freaking rounds. I have something to prove tonight. And, prove it is exactly what I'm going to do."

ROUND ONE:

Cue the witchcraft. Decker's spent plenty of time watching video of the first fight, and she's not going to get overly aggressive like she did then. Instead, she wants to work forward off her jab, use her weight of shot to back Tricia up and take control of the ring. But. Witchcraft. Helfer as slick as it gets. And she has a jab that's every bit as long and effective as Brooklyn's. Actually, in this case, it's MORE effective, because Tricia's getting it home to enforce distance, to slow down Decker's attempted offensive, and create ranged boxing terms. And, these are terms very much to the liking of Helfer. To her credit, Decker holds her own fairly well. She's able to get her heavy straight left on target and put punches together, but Helfer's slick defense, her excellent working of angles, and her ability to work so many different things off the long left are the difference. It's competitive, but it's Helfer with the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Decker doesn't quite throw caution to the wind, but, she definitely pushes down on the pedal. She's determined to work forward now, willing to deal with any consequences. She's not going to fight Helfer's fight, not if she can help it. And, for the moment, anyway, she can help it. Decker ranging in with that big left hand, setting up heavy rights, forcing Tricia to back up and cover up. Helfer in the classic fighting retreat, making Brooke pay for every inch of canvas, but Decker willing to suffer the necessary casualties. And, about two minutes in, Tricia nearly BECOMES one. Brooke stuns her with a left look, then BLASTS a right hand home that sends Helfer wobbling into the ropes. Only those awesome legs hold the Canadian up. But, even they don't look as if they'll be able to do the trick as Decker lets the hands go in a vicious onslaught that sees Tricia repeatedly wobbled. But, the former champ fights like one, hanging on to the bell. It's Decker wide, though, and the cards are even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Decker looking to finish now, coming forward aggressively. But. Witchcraft. Helfer seems to have shaken the worst of the damage from last round, and she's got that uncannily accurate left jab working. Oh, she's giving ground, but it's all part of the plan. She forces Decker to walk through the left, then drops hard right hands on her. The younger woman, though, keeps coming. And PAYS for it. Helfer ROCKS her with one of those right hands, stopping Brooke cold in the middle of the ring. And, then, Tricia goes on the offensive, letting Decker have it with both barrels. The dazed younger blonde is forced back, giving up all the ground she'd been taking and ending up against the ropes, taking the same kind of punishment she was dishing out the previous round. Helfer clinical. No wasted motion, every punch set up. Every one as accurate as all get out. But, still, she can't finish the champion. Decker rides it out, though she loses wide and now trails 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Decker suitably chastened. The younger blonde not coming forward anymore. She's seen this play a couple of times now, and doesn't like the ending. Instead, she sets up mid-ring behind that heavy left jab. It's going to be ranged, gun-platform stuff. And, Tricia couldn't like these terms more. Because, it becomes about boxing, and, you know, witchcraft. Brooke holds her own. She's not getting taken apart out there. She gets the left jab on, is able to follow on with rights, even put together some accurate flurries. But, the chances of out-boxing Tricia Helfer aren't exactly like the pre-season odds of Leicester City winning the Premier League. They aren't that high. Because, this is Helfer's stuff. The skilled, tactical stuff that made her a two-time champion. Well, that and having the ability to enforce these terms on the girl in the opposite corner. So, it's competitive. But, at the bell, it's Helfer, who now has a 39-37 edge.

ROUND FIVE:

Back to ranged warfare as Helfer's punched for enough respect to force distance. No adjustments from Decker, who competed well in the last round, but still dropped her third in four tries, and none, of course, from Tricia, who doesn't plan to fix what isn't broken. And, there aren't any complaints from the fans, because this is entertaining, busy stuff, with both fighters putting punches together and able to score with both hands, though there's plenty of slipping and blocking going on, especially on Helfer's end. And, so it is that Tricia again has the better of things. Until she doesn't. Things turn on a dime with a solid left jab from Brooklyn that snaps her rival's head back into the path of a follow-up right hook. The hook staggers the older blonde, nearly sending her to her knees, and all the caution of the last two rounds evaporates as Decker opens up with every available gun. Helfer is wobbled repeatedly, eventually trapped on the ropes, and given one heck of a beating. But, once again, Tricia survives the onslaught and is standing at the bell. It's Decker wide, but Helfer remains on the lead 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

Decker moving in for the kill. Tricia back to that ever-dangerous fighting retreat. Brooke again willing to take her chances. She's coming forward soundly, working behind that big left, getting the hands back, playing this smart. But, Helfer still making her pay in the counter, because she's that good. Tricia stops the forward motion again and again with hard right hands, but the younger blonde is determined to force the issue. And, force it, she does. A minute and 45 seconds into the round, she forces it in a big way. Again, it's the hard left that sets things up. And, this time, it's a straight right on the button that does the damage, fouling all the circuits and cutting power to the legs. Tricia topples backward, hits the ropes, and topples to her left side. Decker, taking no chances, fairly runs to a neutral corner. Tricia manages to roll to her belly and push to her hands and knees, but, she's still there when the count reaches ten. It's over, and your winner by KO6 and STILL Unified Lightweight Champion is "The 21st Century Goddess', Brooklyn Decker!"

AFTER:

Tone of the interview made clear by Decker actually going over to the corner to check on Tricia before being pulled to the mic. "She's the best I've ever fought," says a still-breathless Brooke. "She can just do so many things and use everything you can do against you. She almost had me a couple of times, and, wow, I thought I had her, but I couldn't finish her. I didn't want this to go to the distance, though, because she's almost impossible to beat on the cards. I had to take some chances to stop her, and that meant it was her or me. Tonight, it was her."
