THREE BLONDES & THREE BRUNETTES VS THREE BLONDES & THREE BRUNETTES AT THE ASYLUM

BEFORE:

"I've been asking Kate Winslet to get me a match over here for a long time," says a hard-eyed Pooja. "I'm as good as any of the flyweights in the FCBA. I just need this chance to prove it."

"She's coming in here to make an impression," says Leighton without the hint of a smile. "No question about that. But. I plan to make an impression. On her."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and..."

McCarthy: "That is just...that is HORRIBLE...that noise must be STOPPED..."

O'Dell (sighing): "That is 'Hangover'..."

McCarthy: "I feel like I HAVE a hangover...the worst hangover of my life. In fact, whoever WROTE this noise must have had a hangover...or a concussion...or maybe some kind of mental illness..."

O'Dell: "A-HEM! That is 'Hangover' by Salman Khan and Shreya Ghoshal from the movie 'Kick'..."

McCarthy: "I'd like to KICK whomever is responsible for this. Right square in the..."

Cassie: "You mean where Kelly kicked you on St. Patrick's Day?"

McCarthy: "WHAT? She...I...She got LUCKY and...SHUT UP, SCABBO!"

O'Dell: "A-HEMMMMMM! And, this is one of the favorite songs of the lady now coming to the ring, Foxfire Atlantic's own Pooja Shah!"

McCarthy: "Whom I'm going to have to introduce to some REAL music sometime..."

O'Dell: "Shah into the ring and helped off with the robe by the Foxfire Atlantic corner to reveal a pink bikini and an in-shape body that has the crowd buzzing. And, that's 'Somebody To Love' by the young lady now coming to the ring, 'The Marco Island Mauler', Leighton Meester!"

Cassie: "We talked last month about this being a big year for a couple of Front Street flyweights. One is the flyweight we saw last month, Kat Graham. Well, the other is Leighton Meester."

Tess: "No doubt about it. Wiz says he needs to see these two fighters take a step forward this year. And, Leighton definitely wants to get off to a better start doing than than Kat did."

O'Dell: "Meester into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing pink and red bikini we've seen before. And, the ladies are just about ready. Let's get some picks. Tess is going with Leighton. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Meester's overrated of course, but, Shah's not only never fought in the FCBA, she's 1-6 in the BBU! And her taste in music is AWFUL. Meester."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess."

O'Dell: "Here we go. Shah as usual wants to get physical here. She's coming forward right away. Meester, however, has seen acts like this before. She's using a slide step to create angles and space and touching the British beauty up as she tries to get forward. Shah landing the occasional right hand here, but nothing more."

Tess: "This is the kind of stuff we've seen from Leighton before. This girl can box, and she's giving Shah a lesson in it right now. She's putting punches together, forcing Pooja to cover up..."

O'Dell: "Indeed, she is. Shah can't get anything on target. She's not getting the distance, angles, or timing she wants, while Meester's getting all those and, pretty much, all the time. Pooja now onto the back foot as Meester lands a sharp three-punch combination. Shah backing and covering..."

Cassie: "Never, ever good when a girl who wants to come forward is going backward."

O'Dell: "Except for the girl sending her there. Meester stepping in now. Not charging, just slowly taking some canvas. She's got Shah off balance, out of kilter, out of sorts, and the Front Streeter is giving Pooja a beating as we head to the bell. There it is, and, no question about the first. Meester wide."

McCarthy: "Only 10-9, but Shah needs to do better, or this thing is going to be a walkover."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second begins with Shah again coming forward behind the left hand. She's doing some serious committing now, winging away with hard rights, going to let everything fly in an effort to get something going. Meester not going to stand in there and trade bombs. She's willing to give ground and play defense..."

McCarthy: "And, play right into Shah's hands. I don't like this strategy, but, I'm not surprised, when all this kid has to rely on are Jewel and Campbell..."

O'Dell: "Meester countering well from the defensive, holding her own in these exchanges, but the added aggression has worked well for Shah, who's getting something going for the first time. She's getting hard shot on target, getting physical with Meester. Leighton wants to box in space, but Shah making that difficult."

Cassie: "OK, I'm going to say it. This is good stuff from Shah. She looked overmatched last round, but she's getting rolling."

O'Dell: "She is, indeed. But, Meester's getting work done, too. She's getting leather on in the counter, and we've had a good, two-way round as a result. Coming down the stretch of same and a sharp exchange. Both fighters scored in that. Ten seconds to go. Shah a right hand and there's the bell. Close. Pooja."

Tess: "And, it's 19-19 after two. And Shah looking a lot more confident on the way back to her corner."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third round begins with Shah aggressive again. Again, Meester willing to give ground and play defense. She's not going to trade bombs with Shah, despite Pooja's best efforts. Instead, Meester using that backward slide step, keeping some distance, working in counter. Shah getting lots of stuff off, though, and landing a decent percentage of it."

McCarthy: "This is typical Meester and typical of a Front Street flyweight or almost any of these Dancing Hookers, really. She's letting a girl a good fly would blow away dictate terms."

O'Dell: "'Dictate' may be a strong word, but there's no question Pooja's getting comfortable right now. Her offense has improved even more this round. She's getting punches put together and getting both hands on target. Meester, though, holding her own in the counter, getting some sharp shots of her own landed."

Tess: "Can't blame Leighton for not wanting to stand and slug with this girl. Shah's an underdog who wants to take chances. Why should Meester play into that?"

McCarthy: "Because, again, she's letting an opponent with NO FCBA wins dictate terms!"

O'Dell: "Thirty seconds to go in the third. Meester executing the slow, counter-clockwise turn, usually able to maintain her distance. Keeping the gloves high, working in counter. Shah has the geometry down pretty well. Able to flurry effectively. Final seconds tick away and there's the bell. Another close round to Shah."

Cassie: "Who now leads 29-28 after three."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "More forward motion from Shah as we start the fourth. She's found what she wants here, and she's working to keep getting it. Meester again willing to work the defensive, give some ground, keep that slow turn going rather than trade heavy leather. Shah stepping in behind that left and SHE'S ROCKED!"

Cassie: "Keyhole counter from Meester and Pooja is stepping in fence post holes!"

O'Dell: "That may well have been what Meester's been looking for these last couple of rounds, but, either way, she's found it and has Shah hurt and in retreat. Pooja backed to the ropes, tight earmuff. Selling body dirt cheap, but Leighton not buying. She's working upstairs, splitting the gloves, hooking behind them..."

McCarthy: "Shah needs to try to tie up here. She's giving Meester too much space to pot shot."

O'Dell: "Leighton clinical now. Setting everything up. Taking her time. Looking for one more big one to finish things off. Shah taking some hard stuff, but the legs sturdy, able to absorb the punishment. Meester hooking some ribs now, looking to bring that guard down, but Pooja not giving in. Ten seconds left. Solid right from Meester and there's the bell. Leighton via shutout, but Shah still in this thing."

Tess: "And, she's even on the cards at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Shah right back at Meester aggressively in the fifth. Legs may not be all the way back, but Pooja determined to push the pace here. Meester again giving ground, turning, playing the counter-puncher game. Shah pretty sound here. Not getting sloppy. Wary of those dangerous counters Leighton has in her arsenal..."

Tess: "Kind of surprised Meester didn't try to consolidate here. I'd have thought that would have been the game plan."

O'Dell: "Apparently not. Shah working in behind that jab, bobbing the head, and GETTING STAGGERED! Another right hand counter from Meester and Pooja is stumbling around the ring! Leighton all in now, looking for the finisher, LEFT HOOK AND DOWN GOES SHAH! A blistering left hook and Shah is down on her left side!"

McCarthy: "This kid needs to get UP. She can still win this thing!"

O'Dell: "Meester to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Pooja rolls to her back. Staring up at the referee. Count now at seven. Eight. Nine. Shah not going to beat it! TEN! It's over! Pooja can't get off the mat, and your winner by KO5 is 'The Marco Island Mauler', Leighton Meester!"

Cassie: "Let's check the replay, not on the punch that got the knockdown, but the one that set it up. Watch as Shah steps forward and begins to throw the left. Meester's already got the right in motion. POW! Perfectly timed, and this fight is all but over right there."

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Leighton Meester, and, Leighton, she was very aggressive in there."

Leighton: "I wasn't surprised. This girl came in here with nothing to lose. She was going to try to take me out of there. I knew if I boxed her, I'd be fine. So, that's what I did."

Tess: "What's next for you?"

Leighton: "Whatever opportunities management gets for me, I'll take them. This is the year I step up to another level, and I can't wait to get back in the ring."
